2 Peter 2:20-22 says this: 'For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. What the true proverb says has happened to them: "The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire." ' Escaping the defilements of the world through the knowledge of Christ here surely involves being genuinely saved. It is very difficult to believe that a superficial interest in the Christian faith that didn’t result in salvation would be described in this way. Similarly, the fact that the sow is said to have washed fits very poorly with the idea that the proverb is referring to a superficial faith that never involved forgiveness of sins. So Peter is referring in these verses to people who have genuinely experienced salvation. And he says that their final condition is worse than their initial condition. This has to mean that things for them are worse than before they had the saving knowledge of Christ. So their last condition must involve being unsaved. The dog returning to its vomit and the sow returning to the mire surely symbolize something very similar. By far the most natural way of interpreting this passage, then, is as a warning to genuine Christians against losing salvation.
I disagree with you on this, but to Piper it's a moot point because it goes against his systematic which requires "Perseverance of the Saints". I disagree with you because there is a lot of scriptural evidence that one cannot lose their salvation, and most or all of the scriptures that suggest that one can are subject to interpretation, like this passage here. For example, it's very easy to read it as: when the believer returns to the sin he had in his unbelief, his sin is even worse than it ever was before." Who's to say which interpretation is right? The rest of scripture, I think, gives strong arguments against your position. It also gives good arguments against what Piper is saying, to be fair.
@@josephbrandenburg4373 A couple of points: (1) Personally, I am very unsure whether it is possible for a genuine, born-of-the-Spirit believer to fall away from the faith and lose their salvation. I wasn't actually arguing from this passage that it is possible. I was just arguing that this passage is a warning against losing salvation. There are more than a few Calvinists, such as Thomas Schreiner and Ardel Caneday, who would agree with me that passages like this one are genuine warnings against losing salvation. They argue that it is not possible for born-again Christians to lose salvation. But they argue too that God uses these passages as a means to keep his children in the faith. Thus, paradoxically in this theory, the Bible contains warnings against doing something that it isn't possible to do. (2) Your interpretation fits very poorly with the text. Peter doesn't say that the people in question's sin will be worse than it was before. He says that it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than to know it and then fall away. Someone who has never known the way of righteousness has clearly never heard the gospel and is therefore unsaved and on track for hell. So the people in question are viewed as ending up with even more punishment than those who have never heard the gospel and end up in hell. (Scripture makes it clear that punishments in hell will vary in intensity depending on the person.) So this passage is a clear warning against falling away from the faith and losing salvation. But, as I noted in my first point, this doesn't prove that it is actually possible to do this.
@@ChristianJune32002 We get baptized out of obedience and we want to because it is a testimony of the work of faith that has taken place on the inside. If someone cannot be baptized for some reason I don't believe it effects their salvation.

The logical conclusion of this teaching is: you can have no assurance of salvation. What he's saying is that God has sovereignly ordained that some people will have all the outward (and inward) testimony of being saved, but not be saved because they were rejected since before the creation of the world, so they end up choosing to quit believing, but believing didn't save them in the first place or work in them any kind of correction of their evil desires... but salvation is by faith, not works, but you can lose a salvation you never had if you love evil... @@ChristianJune32002 We have been saved. We are being saved. And we will be saved. Do you mean 'Does being justifed require being baptized with water?' - No. We have been justified by His grace through faith in Christ. (James 2:17, Colossians 2:12,Matthew 28:19)
It may not make any sense, but this is my opinion, and also forgive me if you this offensive since it is far from my intention. First thing first, there is too much pain, negativity and suffering going on in the world especially in certain areas of the world such as third world countries, lives of homeless people ans so forth, and I think a concept that matters here would be the improvement of their lives and not any spiritual dimension: whenever you have difficulty getting the basics of life, spiritual dimensions would not mean anything important to you. Secondly, I feel like our world, in case it is the creation of a god, is very very defected. Injustice, natural disease, murder, deformities and etc. But you barely ( maybe one out of thousand cases ) do you see something positive happen. In case if everything all Christians and Muslims say about God and World is true, we will, in the end, go back to God willingly or unwillingly. Maybe, I hate God and don't want him. Maybe, I don't really want to be his creation. Given the fact that none of us had any right to come to this world or not, I do not think he is fair and thus not a God.
"Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself? Do you have an arm like God's, and can your voice thunder like his? Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty. Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at all who are proud and bring them low, look at all who are proud and humble them, crush the wicked where they stand. Bury them all in the dust together; shroud their faces in the grave. Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you." -God (Job 40:7-14)
To a large degree this also has to do with the fact that, it is very easy and common to associate our faith with our surroundings and occurrences.. when life is easy it's easy to give praise and when life is difficult it's easy to question if God cares and ultimately loose faith...

I'm so sorry for the pain you have obviously experienced in life. I too have suffered and will probably continue as I am physically and permanently sick. However, sickness , suffering, and death is a part of life. Likewise, injustice and an imperfect world. The world and the human condition is this way because we have all fallen from God's standard. This fall from God's grace started with Adam and will continue until Christs second coming. This condition can't be overcome by our own self will and effort. That's not to say that we shouldn't try. However, we will always come up short. Christs crucifixion and resurrection restores us to God if we appropriate it by faith , but the world is still a fallen world. So these hurtful conditions and injustices will remain. The need for justice is a necessity but the need for mercy and grace can be greater! I hope this softens your heart towards God a little. As a Christian my life is suppose to point to the mercy and grace God has provided in Jesus Christ.

@@josephbrandenburg4373 A couple of points:
(1) Personally, I am very unsure whether it is possible for a genuine, born-of-the-Spirit believer to fall away from the faith and lose their salvation.
(Scripture makes it clear that punishments in hell will vary in intensity depending on the person.)
So this passage is a clear warning against falling away from the faith and losing salvation. But, as I noted in my first point, this doesn't prove that it is actually possible to do this.
Does being saved require being baptized with water?
@@ChristianJune32002 We get baptized out of obedience and we want to because it is a testimony of the work of faith that has taken place on the inside. If someone cannot be baptized for some reason I don't believe it effects their salvation.

No, you do comprehend it clearly. It's an obvious contradiction.
Is there a video if some of those who have shipwrecked their faith repent and come back and live a life reflecting saving faith?

I'm guessing I'm not the one you're asking but I'll try and answer nonetheless.
Baptism with water is a symbol of salvation and a command from the Lord in the Great Commission (Matt 28). Salvation does not require baptism but obedience to the Lord does. Obedience is evidence of salvation.
@@myyoutubeaccount12111 Acts 2:38 says, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:38 shows that salvation requires baptism with water.

@@Good-ke5tk Like I said. The Penitent Thief was saved before the new covenant started. Baptism with water is a part of the new covenant. That’s why he didn’t have to be baptized with water to be saved.
You're twisting yourself in knots, Piper! Your theology doesn't make sense!

Does being saved require being baptized with water?
@@ChristianJune32002 We have been saved. We are being saved. And we will be saved. Do you mean 'Does being justifed require being baptized with water?' - No. We have been justified by His grace through faith in Christ. (Ephesians 2:8, 1 Corinthians 1:18, Romans 13:11, Romans 3:24, Titus 3:7, Romans 5:1)
But faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead - Water baptism in an expression of faith and an exercise of obedience.
"Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.
Would you discredit my justice?
Would you condemn me to justify yourself?
Do you have an arm like God's,
and can your voice thunder like his?
Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor,
and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.
Unleash the fury of your wrath,
look at all who are proud and bring them low,
look at all who are proud and humble them,
crush the wicked where they stand.
Bury them all in the dust together;
shroud their faces in the grave.
Then I myself will admit to you
that your own right hand can save you."
-God (Job 40:7-14)
To a large degree this also has to do with the fact that, it is very easy and common to associate our faith with our surroundings and occurrences.. when life is easy it's easy to give praise and when life is difficult it's easy to question if God cares and ultimately loose faith...
@@ipelengkhule9263 with all due respect, that is absoluely not me. I have learned ( to a great extent ) not to ask for God's help but to look for a solution. You are coming from a religious point of view and I am not.
@Damon H more or less I agree with you damon. But the creation is defected really. And no human had any idea as to how the world would be once we stepped in it.

Christianity is not in the way, Piper. It is your DEFINITION of Christianity that is simply wrong at best, and Satanic at worse. Imagine a God who is so petty that he pays more attention to how the media portrays boast-sin (purported) in ONE MAN than He cares about the lives of millions of children. It is no wonder Abraham has left the faith. He mistook the Christianity as portrayed by his father for the real thing.
