Was hoping for some Pete Townshend. Won't Get Fooled Again along with most of Who's Next and Quadrophenia were recorded with a 6120 Gretsch that Joe Walsh gave to Pete in 1970. Pete's was Orange AF too!:)
I have one of these, one of my favourite guitars in my collection. It dates to early 62. The intonation with the original bridge was pretty bad so I modded it into a much more usable guitar. I put a tuneomatic bridge on it so i can do the intonation on each string, ripped out the mute mechanism, ripped out the standby switch, put a new pot in each of those holes & rewired it Volume/Volume/Tone/Tone. I then changed the tone switch up top to a coil tap. Now it is 100% more practical as a guitar from a playing perspective. I love it.
I have this exact model guitar. To all those complaining about intonation, this model is very tricky to intonate. The wooden bridge is not fixed and can move around unless someone has done a modification to help keep it in place. Combine that with a Bigsby and it’s very easy to go out of tune. But the pickups are amazing and the neck, at least on mine, is wonderful.
Orange is very cool , and Gretsch makes a cool sounding guitar , this one needs some work tho , something doesn't sound right. Great set tho , well done , just wish there was more focus on the guitar than on games and birthdays. Great nails Jen
You got rockabilly dirty on switchblade. Is it bad that I seen the preview shot and immediately said, "oh, a gretsch, bet there's some Brian Setzer about to go down. "
I was born just in time for black & white TV, and that there guitar screams Grand Old Opry. The parents liked some country. But, man is that orange! That's like Ronald McDonald / Bozo hair orange! I love it!
I used to own one of these, from this same year. Trust me, for the live sound of those Filtertrons there is no deal breaker. Magic always trumps artiface.
Not really an issue if you actually own one and play . Never cared about the painted f scrolls, the neck was so perfect for me and filtertrons sounded like the soul of rock and roll.
Dig the "reverse" bridge setup (low strings shorter than high strings), does she intonate that way? Reason I'm asking is because my old ES-5N does indeed intonate that way, nobody knows why but sometimes these old guitars just behave in strange ways.
Well, Mark, certainly no one can accuse you of not being extremely versatile (on top of being an A1 player). Let's not forget the great Eddie Cochran when we talk the 6120 - although his was a single cut version.
There was a reissue for sale... Saw this video and thought "Looks great, sounds great... maybe I'll wait..." then he plays "Switchblade 327"... Damn... that cost me!
That u again, fine instrument. Big shout to u & Norm & all other inmates at your 'asylum' for u do for others who need a hand. I will take those f holes as opposed to some a', well never mind, polite company Some things are 'classy' because they are timeless. That instrument looks good today just like it did back in the day. Much like pearls do on my better half's neck. Again, thanks much, peace
The 6120 was the first electric guitar I ever held. in the '60's down the road at Stonewood, in Downey, and they were still one of the priciest guitars on the wall. Then they called it burnt orange finish!
mark u said it was a rosewood fingerboard man it looks dark in the video looks ebony and hard to see the grain but from camera looked dense and dark like ebony
Hi guys. Mark in particular! I watch this clips EVERY day. Couple of things. I am blown away my guitars you have and that you share with us, but even more than that, the artistry you guys have in being able to make those pieces of would and metal sound the way they do just has me in awe. A while back now I bought myself a couple of guitars, a 1976 Fender Tele Custom and a new Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass, my intention was to be like you (im being totally honest here so don't roast me too much) I got the both of those guitars as I was not sure what I wanted to learn. I signed up for all those online courses, spent a ton of money and through frustration, those guitars having been sitting in my man cave staring at me, almost begging to be played. I lost interested because I was not making progress, I just wanted to be like you, overnight, and while I know that's ridiculous that's what I wanted to happen. I tried, in a way, to buy learning to play by spending money. Well as you all know, that does not work. So I started picking up the Tele again a few weeks ago and started trying to learn chords. Just 20 mins a night, not every night. I watch your videos every day because I want to be like you (aint gonna happen) but it keeps me focused. Is there any advice you have for people like me to help us progress. I have not even attempted to change between chords yet, I am just simply trying to get my fingers right. I am strumming and I think it sounds great, and I am just experimenting, playing a chord, and then using like to put a finger on a fret that makes a continuation of a nice in key sound. Should I be doing that? I think trying to stay focused is the most difficult thing for me and I was just looking for advice. Guys - Don't be too harsh on me :)

I agree, Painted f holes are lame.
They look much worse on the wine red models. On the orange finish they look just fine and it really helps with feedback
Oh yeah I can dig that!
beautiful guitar
You could leave it on the roadway where there’s construction or road works it saves life 👌
Dig the "reverse" bridge setup (low strings shorter than high strings), does she intonate that way? Reason I'm asking is because my old ES-5N does indeed intonate that way, nobody knows why but sometimes these old guitars just behave in strange ways.
I’ve been thinking about getting a Gretsch, one of the new streamliner models that are semi-hollow body. Hope they sound this good
Brian Setzer is my spirit guide..
Love the seat cushion on the back. Tough field but I gotta go with Brian Setzer on this one.
