You guys being in different places on the screen really threw me for a confused loop....but no matter what, you all make me look forward to Thursday mornings.
The impact this had on the Swiftie community can't be overstated. She was absolutely trashed in the media, the Kim & Kanye frame up had happened, and social media was SAVAGE - taylorswiftisoverparty was trending, she was called a snake.
She disappeared for a year, then reappeared with Reputation. She didn't do any prep or press for it, just dropped it, and she invited all the journalists who had trash talked her to the live tour... which opens with audio clips of them saying awful shit about her. Icon.
I wish I could go back to 2017 and experience the bridge of this song for the first time again. Like, her career had been toppled by Kim and Kanye, everyone hated her, she had deleted all of her social media, she literally hadn’t been seen for 12 months and so for her to come back and say “That nice little girl who smiles and does things that make her uncomfortable because she doesn’t want to be a bother? Yeah, she’s gone. I don’t give a fuck anymore, you pissed me off and I’m gonna tell you about it.”

The scooter Braun thing hadn’t happened yet. She was still with big machine here and she still thought she’d be able to buy all her masters. That’s why a lot of ppl ended up saying she was the problem bc after the Kim k, Kanye thing happened then the scooter Braun thing happened

Could be around this time. Reputation was her last contracted album with him. Also that label gave her so much trouble over her own creative control we found out later.

I have always said this, no celebrity is as self aware as Taylor Swift. And the whole rep era proved that. She knows exactly what people think of her.
One of the reasons this music video goes so hard (the studio version too) is the mental space she was in at the time. She had literally disappeared for over a year - this was after the whole Kanye thing. She was angry and hurt and was lashing out in the best way she knew how

I remember having no cell phone signal on the day this music video was released because I was in the countryside, the next morning I went back to the city and went straight to my jiu-jitsu class and the moment my cell phone connected to the gym's wifi there were A LOT of messages in my friends' group chat, screenshots and RUclips links and I was like WTF IS GOING ON??????? Swifties were going crazy all over the internet 😅 It took me ages to understand the concept of this video and to this day I still don't think I caught all the Easter eggs she hid in those 3 minutes. She truly is a mastermind!

There are so many Easter Eggs. The bathtub scene references the lawsuit she was involved in-a DJ sued her after she claimed he grabbed her ass during a photo op ("you said the gun was mine" means you claimed I was the one who did something wrong), so she countersued for $1 (there is a one dollar bill next to her in the diamond bathtub) and won. She says he never paid her the dollar.
I agree with you, but I also think that there is a double meaning - remember when Kim got robbed of all her diamonds in London, and the thieves put her in the bathtub? I think she was also hitting at her with that one, along with what you are saying.
Part of the live backing track for the Eras Tour is Taylor's Version but extra guitar and percussion is added to the whole show to spice it up. I guarantee the whole Rep set is Taylor's Version backing tracks as well as all other Taylor's Version eras that have already been released.

The dance scene was for all the people who said she couldn’t dance.
The car crash with the Grammy, T is dresses like Katy P and Katy doesn’t have a Grammy.
At the end, all the Taylors are lined up, she calls herself a bitch and that’s a reference to Kanye calling her a bitch in his song Famous. Another Taylor mentions “editing”a phone recording later, that’s Kim too.

I understand what Alex is saying. They only two songs on this album I far prefer the studio recordings/MV to live performances of are Look What You Made Me Do and Delicate.
The crispness of the production on the album version/mv turn makes it go SOOOO much harder!
The live version is great, btw. I just prefer the studio one. In performances, I especially loved the Era's tour transition from Don't Blame Me with that hard guitar. And on that performance, she screams "CAUSE SHE'S DEAD" which is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 compared to the MV and studio version.
