I love videos that tell a story. Not just “here’s a picture of a kingfisher” but the story surrounding the shot. You did a great job of that in this video. I’d love to see more of this.
Great video. I can empathize about chasing kingfishers - I do photography from my kayak and Ive spent many hours paddling after them. I've gotten a few good shots but they werent easy!
Thanks for sharing the pics.really cool pics of both the USA and South Africa. I am fortunate that I live in Johannesburg South Africa so the Kruger National Park is just over a 5 hour drive in my 2002 LandRover Defender. Highway all the way. You are one up on me in that I have in close on 40 years of visiting have never seen a while Lion. I do an annual A3 calendar of the 12 best wildlife pics of the year. Not easy to cut down to only selecting 12, especially when I want to select one that while not a great photo it brings back good memories. The calendar brings back great memories each time I see them, either at home or at a few companies where I consult. 😮
I saw the thumbnail for this video on the RUclips page and thought I recognized the limpkin. Opened the video and saw the aerial view of the James River. With the exception of the South Africa trip, you pretty well described my year in central Virginia (and Alligator River). Great stuff.
The last time I was there it was a little harder. Some parts of the drive were closed because some unethical photographers were leaving food out to lure the wolves closer. Keep trying, though! It took me a few visits, too.
great photos Alan,,,BTW there are Kingfishers at Hanover Lake trail at the courthouse,,,follow the trail to the lake and its where the 1st bench is on the lake
I have a close up Hawk photo from my backyard for 2023...would love to send it to you to take a look at...do you have an email for your site? I couldn't find it
I'm hesitant to put my email into a RUclips comment but if you head over to alanyoung.photography there's a contact form and we can start an email thread if you'd like to send anything my way!

I really love this idea of printing off a photo book at the end of each year. Definitely will do it this year!
Love videos like this after every year

Cheers from central Virginia! This limpkin really is the most famous bird in town!
encouraged me to do birding, great video.
I have not seen the red wolf at the refuge in OBX...still on my bucket list
