I really think the Necrons show the most interesting potential here: the Silent King hates the tyranids, and while the purely biological bugs defeated the orks while relying on consuming and recycling them, they can’t do the same with the Necrons as they’re purely mechanical. Remember as well the orks were created to fight the Necrons, while the tyranids have seldom encountered the necrons at all. So the Necrons waited for the orks to be defeated as they posed a comparatively greater threat to them before swooping in to massacre the ill-prepared bugs. Necrons have no psychic ability and ships don’t need the warp so their shadow does nothing, and their obscenely powerful war in heaven era tech will certainly be devastating to the tyranids. The orks had both technology of their own and the ability to scrap Necron tech and use it, tyranids don’t. By stopping the orks it may have led to their own demise at the hands of the necron. Guess we’ll have to wait and see

The necrons must also time it right. If they lose to the tyranids or dont wipe out a hive cluster, they risk adaptation to the tech they bring, which while bad for them, would be disastrous for the universe at large.

The Octarius war is probably my most favorite thing in 40k, more so than just being a fan of both Orks and Tyranids. Its a horrifying crucible of evolution for both species that thrive in war, a swarm from outside the galaxy physically changing and evolving their thinking against an engineered race of dangerously cunning brutes that not only grow bigger as the war grows on but create more and more unhinged warmachines to boot. Its the full WAR part of warhammer distilled into a pure essence even more so than Khorne and his followers in my opinion for the two don't even fight for an ideology, just to either devour the other or just because its fun for the other.

Like you say; it would be great if Ontarius continued serves as more interesting stories of Imperium and Eldar working together.
The fall of the Ork overlord could rise to many different ork warbosses who could become akin to chapter masters we have so many stories about for the space marines.
Were necrons waiting for the tyranids to dig out the Orks on the planet Ontarius so that they could then fight what they see as an easier foe before they reveal buried tombs beneath the surface?
It serves as an opportunity for new lord models and more army models in general for krieg, orks, Nids, necrons and even inquisition.
Heck... with the black Templars being there in near full force and the empirial strategy relying on forming a giant bulwark against the multiple flavored waved of xenos it sure would be an interesting time for a certain yellow primarch to re-emerge with some true ideas on how to fortify the emperor loving balls out of the Imperiums border.

If anything or one were to snuff out one of the stars on the map, then the actual star in real space will go supernova swallowing every planet and moon orbiting it. Luckily the Royal Court of Thanatos see themselves as the Gardners of Creation and only use the device to prune the galaxy to prevent it from being overgrown. The Oruscar Dynasty have used it also to prevent the device from falling into the hands of other Necron and alien races.

Although the biggest factions involved are clearly the tyranids, imperium and orks, it seems that the inclusion of chaos, necrons and potentially eldari may mean they have a bigger part to play going forward in octarius.
If you are right about tiamat then the story has written in a way to maintain the tyranid threat from there, or even step up the threat, while they could establish the power and threat of the necrons to a greater degree.
If tyranids are developed through tiamat, necrons are established with the silent king having a victory in octarius and chaos obviously overcame the meme of the first 12 black crusades with the results of the 13th then all the "bad guys" have spent the last years significantly turning up the danger levels.
Unless there is a significant necron development that i have missed.

It's a ploy by the dark eldar. The mere idea of torturing information out of a haemonculus is absurd, and whatever he tells them will serve his own purposes. Those might align with the Imperium's current needs - Tyranids are probably boring and annoying to his kind and setting the idiot mon-keigh to fighting them a bit more effectively would be amusing. But in the end he's doing it for himself, and will just die and respawn back home when he's done fooling around.
Hell, given how stupid the mon-keigh are, letting them "torture" info out of him might be the only way a dark eldar could get them to believe even part of what he's saying.

Seems to me, the imperium ought to eliminate the Tyranids with brutal cunning at the first opportunity. It's a story though, so I imagine that won't happen. Weird that Warhammer is offering an opposition story to Enders Game. The 'Bugs' of Enders Game didn't realize they were killing sentient beings and tried to change their ways because they didn't know initially. The Tyranids know and actively use sentience to manipulate from within, in order to weaken their target.
Honestly, an Ork universe sounds preferable to a Tyranid one.

    • @my8thaccount236

There’s no comparison because a Tyranid universe is no universe at all. If they win all that’s left is oblivion. An Ork galaxy however would be the ultimate galactic kraterocracy. An entire galaxy ruled by the concept that might and might alone makes right. A brutal, uncompromising ideology. However it’s a largely equal opportunity one that encourages excellence and rewards the strongest.

It still boggles my mind how any chapter believes the Emperor is a god. I know the Black Templars don’t follow the Imperial Truth and I can understand if the Grey Knights or some recent 20th whatever founding chapter believe he’s a god, but a second founding chapter? Did the Black Templars believe the Emperor was a god since Sigismund? Do they understand that other chapters don’t believe The Emperor is a god, and if they do, how do they react? Do they think less of them or just don’t think much of it? What about Grimaldis? Is he just an exception or and is the larger Black Templars aware of his non-belief the Emperor is a god? So many questions.

    • @draco84oz

Generally, Marines don't see the Emperor as a God - they see him as the pinnacle of Mankind, the creator of their gene seed. But, as with all Chapters, each is different - the Space Wolves see the Emperor as the All-Father, the sire of all. I think the Grey Knights see him as definitely NOT a god (their Gene-seed is taken from the Emperor, not a Primarch), but he is somehow tied to their ability to fight Chaos. The Black Templars are one of the chapters that do revere him as God-like, but I'm pretty sure they're in the minority of chapters in that respect (Also remember, the Black Templars were formed from the most fanatical of the Imperial Fist Legion, and 10,000 years of crusading has only made it more pronounced).

I saw these warzones are "excuses" for tabletop conflict settings. An attempt to recapture the way it used to work, unshifting battle grounds feature most if not all the sides. THis allows them to push the main story with the usual suspects while not making the universe feel small. It also allows them to answer "what has X group been doing" (in octarius case, the black templar). I expect to see more warzones, each involving many factions, with one in the lead, with a cameo from a group or minorish character or chapter like Crimson fists.

this is very, very new to me. I was not aware that Tyrranids possessed the will and independent thought for a swarmlord to 'focus in' on details, and become aware of things that its predecessors had missed, and accordingly 'devise' strategies. It's almost like...it has evolved an 'individuality'. I know they can adapt, and here it seems they've literally adapted to 'think' rather than just rely on instinct. Almost like they're developing the ability to plan and counter specifically in response to their failures against the Orks.

Nids could away do this, but they prefer to "bury them in body's" and infestation cults then other tactic's tho this don't stop them form being more tactical minded with those strategy and more. The only reason why their where being more tactfully is that their usually strategy's just don't work with these heavily fortified and hyped up orks in this scenario, thinks like these requires more intelligent and sleight of hand then just brute force. And so after a whole bunch of trail and error the hive tyrant (not Swarm lord, which is the special character for the hive tyrant like Guilliman and blitzkrieg Ghazghkull) finally got the idea for being more cunning after the many deaths of it predecessor.

It seems like GW consistently disregards their own lore when it comes to plots involving the Tyranids. It has long been established that warp travel is rendered impossible in proximity to a hive fleet due to the shadow in the warp. And yet, somehow the imperium always seems to manage to get troop through to save the day (never mind how a chaos incursion could even manifest). I guess plot armor must prevail, even when it must amputate itself to do so.

First, I LOVE these videos. Thank you for them!!!
From a lore perspective, I’m getting pretty sick of Tyranids. They’re basically the Grey Knights of xenos. Physically unstoppable, immune to psychics, free from infighting, if their leaders die they instantly get new better leaders, their setbacks just lead to more and bigger hive fleets from offscreen, and they can plan and learn and invent as much as they need to for whatever conflict they’re involved in, while given all the privileges of being mindless monsters when they need those. They have no flaw that can be exploited, and therefore no way to lose that’s dramatically resonant. They’re basically a metaphor for inevitable death, which would be fine except that they have all the advantages and characteristics of being alive with none of the downsides (like caring about pain or even being able to die) so they’re bad even as a metaphor.
The one dramatic purpose I can see them serving in a way that isn’t just “Tyranid plot armor destroys the galaxy” is this: they finally force humanity to allow research again, or maybe force the Orks to think again. Which could both go horribly wrong, of course, and still lead to cosmic destruction, but I’m pretty sick of humanity fighting these dei ex machina with one hand tied behind its back.
Basically my problem is this: if the Tyranids overrun the galaxy, there’d be no reason they did, no decision by any group that mattered. It’d just have been the writers deciding there was no way to stop them.

    • @shadowrobot7708
      @shadowrobot7708 2 года назад

You forgot about the shadow of the warp which lets them fight Imperial forces without the threat of reinforcements. Also because of that most of their victory's are not recorded. So even for a nids fan its frustrating seeing them lose most on screen battles.

I also think that genestealers should have been separate from Tyranids just for lore reasons. Why can their claws rip through terminator armor but most other Tyranid forms of similar size can't

    • @kangtheknightx
      @kangtheknightx 2 года назад +2

I don't see them being alive as problematic for the metaphor of the inevitable death. They're literally a Force of Nature, unable to be reasoned with or gotten out of the path of. Much like a Hurricane, but on a galactic scale.
Originally they might no have meant to be so terrifying, but they're the end of this universe, as they have already been of others, as how the writing is progressing.
This is all due tto GWs choice to make the setting progress, rather than an explored setting. You can't have the Tyranid Galactic Invasion progress without showing how utterly unstoppable such a premise is.

@@kangtheknightx Bit of a rant here. It’s not directed at you; your point is very reasonable. Just trying to explain myself.
The problem is that having such a perfect, unstoppable, limitless force that is also intelligent runs counter to everything else in 40k.
Tyranids can think; they can understand and leverage emotions and social connections, as seen in genestealers and in their frustrated scream mentioned in the video; they can work together and plan; they can invent. But they never infight, they have no pride, and they ignore the Warp (the supposed consequence of being both intelligent and alive in the 40k verse) entirely, at least its negative effects. They’re not death at all, or the inevitability of death. They’re just the most awesome and awesomely boring group alive, able to kill everything else just because they inexplicably overcome all the other thematic problems of being alive via perfect universe-wide instant telepathy and accord, all the intelligence they need, unlimited resources, lack of any consequences for failure and therefore lack of fear, and the power to repurpose any resource to do whatever they need to at speed. A universe in which the Tyranids win is one of eternal cosmic harmony, one in which all of life is in constant communion with itself, infinite in variety and potential, perfectly adapted to every situation and environment, free from conflict but also without the restrictions of uniformity or stagnation. Heck, they’re probably immune to entropy somehow to boot. They are, frankly, the stupid happy ending of the story, implying that all the troubling questions and tensions the history of life in 40k has posed have answers, but all those answers come down to “have the writer fix that for you with magic.”
There is one dramatic reason I can see for the Tyranids to exist: to highlight that humanity is refusing to use the one canonical way it might have to effectively fight them, that being actually doing science (or at least allowing themselves to think new ideas) again. New Men of Iron could conceivably clean house and make the Tyranids run back home to mommy (right before said Men wiped out humanity themselves, probably). But then, why wouldn’t the ‘nids just “evolve” even more awesome super-anti-Men of Iron, or overwhelm whatever got invented with infinite biomass from offscreen, like they can do with everything else?
To get to the point: the Tyranids are proof that the downsides of all the other factions and species are BS, not actual problems. Tyranids have *desire* and *intent* without *any drawback*. If other species wanted to overcome infighting, Chaos, sadness, fear, the pain of loss, whatever, they totally could. Just do a Warp-free universal mind hug like the ‘nids do, and then magically acquire infinite resources. No problem.
Really, by this point, the Tyranids should have by all rights “evolved” to transform inorganic elements into carbon or whatever they consider biomass and not even be worried about going after just living things any more. Their entire home galaxy should be a big fat totally organic Dyson sphere powered by an ultramassive central star perpetually rejuvenated by their super-intelligent yet still somehow mindless evolutionary magic. Like a huge Pac-Man, it should just eat the whole 40k galaxy in one bite, leading to perfect endless joyful boredom.
You know, after writing this, I’m weirdly kinda rooting for them. Maybe I’m a genestealer at heart 🙂

Honestly I was following the lore pretty at the start of eight. But now with all the weird time jumps I would love to see a timeline of everything that happend from the fall of cadia to where we are now. Not requiring that much detail of the events just what happend when.

As always the content is excellent. I've rewatched your videos from years back and don't care one bit if I have to wait longer for a new video. Your health takes precedent and you should take the time you need regardless how long it is, we will still be here

    "Octarius" Eight Factions
    1. Imperium
    2. Orks
    3. Tyranids
    4. Chaos
    5. Aeldari
    6. Drukhari
    7. Tau
    8. Necrons
I think this is going to grow into a Gettysburg of sorts, a seemingly small fight that leads to a massive convergence of forces that makes a decisive turning point.

I'm going to watch this after part 1 tomorrow because for some reason I love listening to these videos whilst not being a warhammer fan myself.
Gotta get up early, head into town and continue my course for some qualifications in some stuff.

I really doubt that the Octarius war is over. Though the Octarius system has fallen and the Overfiend lies dead I think that we will see something that will slow the nid onslaught long enough for the orks to regroup. I enjoyed the series overall and agree that we needed more books to give a deep dive into this conflict. Keep it up Luetin, you madlad!!

its hard for me to see how and why the imperium can have any say in how this war can end, best case scenario, they fight forever and there is no victor, worse case ,an amalgam of orc and tyranid,so strong ,even imperium in its prime with the emperor and his primarchs ,losing a war of galactic scale, but my bet ,the silent king will enter the story
