No it is not about that. WE are not saying chelse must win, but we must see a style of play. The only thing I see is that chelsea players are not moving when they do not have the ball, makes it difficult for the one with the ball when your team mates are not moving. You tell them to wait for the ball and not move too much, yet you set up a high-line defense.
The issue with Reece is that if you play him in his best position, bang hamstring is gone. I think he's too heavy or muscular to be running up and down that wing.

You don't see much stocky footballers that are built like gattusso, cafu, r9, Ronaldinho, or Rooney. More than one thing can be true at the same time. The performance was truly execrable, especially the defense. It was completely unacceptable. But that does not mean Maresca is trash and the season is already lost. The number of people losing their minds after two pre-season matches is ridiculous. We are missing more than half of our projected starting 11. We’ve been training this new system for three weeks and all this travel to and around the US is not helping the team find adequate training time. We’ve been touched up by two settled sides that have been playing their styles for years. I’d have been surprised (pleasantly) if we had gotten better results.

There’s no tactical benefit in inverting Reece James. Reece is most effect creating overloading with overlapping or underlapping runs and putting in crosses from those areas. Playing him in midfield neutralises his effectiveness . We have specialists midfielders who play in front of the defenders and can do a better job than James in those positions. They are also not as effective as Reece James in attacking areas. I believe if Maresca plays a static back 3 with 2 static midfielders in Caicedo, Enzo or Lavia would create a solid defensive block

Fair analysis from a Chelsea perspective. Its pre season and it will set your team up nicely for the season. Celtic were on song and the play was in general very controlled. Schmeichel must be the signing of the season and takes over from Joe Hart in an outstanding pre season. They played 3 games and scored 4 in each, against Chelsea, Man City and DC United, Overall Lessons given and learned.
We’ll see if he can make the right changes, seems like he’s experimenting a lot and testing out situations and patterns. Or he could just be completely lost 😂

Such players are not midfielders. Mind you, it's not just you, it's pretty much all of the Chelsea content creator space that seems to be adamant in refusing to see the obvious. In Maresca's Leicester system, there is a grand total of three midfielder slots for the interior of the pitch. And we either use two of them on Palmer and Nkunku, leaving a midfield of one, or we play at least one of Palmer and Nkunku out of position. Meanwhile, the system uses two dedicated wingers, which is not an area where we have a competitive advantage versus the rest of the Premier League, and it doesn't do anything of note with right fullback, which is an area, where we do have a competitive advantage versus the rest of the Premier League. I also read Cucu, Cole and Conor (if he stays) won't be joining in pre-season which also concerns me about the time they'll need to gel together as the true starting 11.

Of Celtic's manager is an incredible manager with a lot more experiences than Enzo in terms of everything....that was the difference in the game setting out and plans
New keeper(Jorgensen), new striker (Oshimen), KDH, Enzo, Caciado, Palmer & Cucurella all to come back into the side. That's 7 Players!!! We have great depth, we have great talent and we have a great coach. What we don't have is much time, so be patient, support your team.
Chelsea wake up call, pre-season or not your league starts in 22 days against Man City. Both Schmeichel and Sanchez made some big saves the whole game, the idea is you win your pre-season games to see progression and systems that work which Celtic have done. Celtic are a really good side with quality players and Manager, would trouble Chelsea any day of the season.

Thing that fans don't get is that Enzo Maresca is not inverting players for the sake of it. Once you get this, you'll understand that Cucurella will mot give what Maresca wants. In Leicester, Ricardo Pereira was inverted for the same reason Reece and Malo are being invert now. Their control in close spaces and ability to carry the ball through. So far Malo is doing well. Reece will come through, he's done this at Wigan. Relax people

We need to start realising that we need the extra defender instead of midfielder. 3 at the back with 2 wing backs. Conte done it and Alonso and Moses were cooking down both flanks. Tuchel done it and Chilwell and James were the same.
most of James passes in midfield is back to the defenders. I don't see how effective he is as a inverted right-back. The guy is also slow regards to build up play; when the ball reaches him because he's not aware of his surrounding, all his passes is back to the defender which cause Celtic to get behind the ball.
Petrovic & Chalobah. Both played well last season, yet are being pushed out. Trev in particular has not made any fuss and should not be constantly touted

Preseason does not mean any performance at all should be acceptable.... A bad preseason makes it more difficult at the start of the season. Remember TT last season at chelsea, the preseason was also bad and it transferred into the season. In preseason, the second game should be better than the first not getting worst

Caicedo should clean us up in defense, so i’ll reserve judgement until then. however Badiashile is really sketchy. hasn’t been the same since his injury, same goes for Fofana.

Palmer needs to play on the RW. We have KDH who already knows the system. He and Enzo will create more chances, better quality chances for the attack. I don’t think Lavia and Caicedo will play at the same time. It’s possible they do, but if one of the FBs is inverting I’m not sure how that would work. Moi could play more forward as he has good ball retention, can score from distance, and carry the ball forward but that remains to be seen. Either way it’s only preseason, this is the time to experiment and make mistakes.
We play man city on 18th Aug. Please don't tell me we can inprove from that performance in 3 weeks to even threaten man city. Even with Palmer cuccu and fernadez back.
i think it is absolutely unfair how we all criticize sanchez, he didn't do much wrong in this game...maybe he can take part blame for the pass to Badiashile but apart from that he was solid and made good saves....a lot of the times we judge this guys with past notions

One thing I know for sure is that we need the energy and intensity of Gallagher to drive maresca system atleast for the first half of the season.. we need midfielders that can track back and cover the defense.. (caceido and Gallagher)

If you look at Spurs, their youth team beat Champions of Japan in the second half, and Celtic's second team minus beat Chelsea's top players in last 25 minutes, just because they were fit enough. The only consolation I have is that Maresca is "experimenting" during pre-season - which is actually a pretty good idea. If he's as good as he thinks he is, the performances we've seen thus far will not be seen when the season starts!

Celtic literally start their campaign next weekend, we’re 4 weeks behind them when it comes to conditioning and only two weeks into yet another system change, with our most influential players still yet to return to training. Right now I want no injuries, and physical improvement, would be nice if the players were picking up the tactics faster mind.

Some of our players seem to lose concentration and composure. Daydreaming in defence and midfield and snatching at chances in attack . I thought we would beat celtic today as I did against wrexham. Sanchez sucks at distribution, yes, but he had a lot to do this game because of shitty defence. The defence was bad because Carney and Noni couldn't keep the ball and kept giving it away. Badiashile also is not a lone CB because he does not have the passing, the mentality or the composure to keep the ball and be relaxed. They do not suit the positional football.
The simple fact is that the best team won but don't take it too hard because you aren't the first PL team Celtic have beaten and you certainly won't be the last

Personally I saw lots of positives from the first game. Actually had we taken our chances in the first minutes, this game could have turned out differently.
Was it necessary to completely change the system, to the point of confusing players. Madueke, James Mudych had no space to run, which is their strength. Guiu was the most lost

Celtic were on song and the play was in general very controlled. Schmeichel must be the signing of the season and takes over from Joe Hart in an outstanding pre season.
They played 3 games and scored 4 in each, against Chelsea, Man City and DC United, Overall Lessons given and learned.

Josh, I don't want to sound harsh, but why on Earth are you only noticing now what the issue necessarily must be with using people like Nkunku and Palmer in those "attacking number 8" slots? Such players are not midfielders.
Mind you, it's not just you, it's pretty much all of the Chelsea content creator space that seems to be adamant in refusing to see the obvious. In Maresca's Leicester system, there is a grand total of three midfielder slots for the interior of the pitch. And we either use two of them on Palmer and Nkunku, leaving a midfield of one, or we play at least one of Palmer and Nkunku out of position.
Meanwhile, the system uses two dedicated wingers, which is not an area where we have a competitive advantage versus the rest of the Premier League, and it doesn't do anything of note with right fullback, which is an area, where we do have a competitive advantage versus the rest of the Premier League.
Edit: And I don't give a toss about the result, mind you. I don't care one bit about player execution at this stage, though it is worrying that we're still this bad at the system. What I care about is whether the coach plays a system that benefits the players or if he's come up with a system for his own benefit and now players have to be rammed into that system regardless of abilities. Because that's not really an improvement over Poch's lack of a coherent system, is it?
What we need is synergy between tactics and players. Battering everything into a rough resemblance of alignment with a hammer isn't synergy.
You nailed it. Systems and tactics shouldn't take precedence over your player profile. Chelsea should learn to maximize their competitive advantage rather than weakening it and making an already vulnerable squad even more vulnerable

Why is everyone worried about pre-season game, we still have Enzo and Caicedo and Palmer to come in. Poch had a great preseason and look what happened at the start. This is science not art what Maresca is doing, the players need to learn the system.

After spending a world record £1.1bn net in 2yrs, what's there to show for it!? An unknown Championship manager & squad full of kids!? If LFC, AFC, MU, Spurs, NU spent that amount in 2yrs - their fans would demand they're challenging for the PL till May, finish top 2, get to the latter stages of Europe & win a cup. CFC finished 10th, 6th & it looks like will struggle again this season. What a joke!...
because the scoreline is shameful, tactics were mediocre, players were exhausted. Palmer is great but won't be enough to propel this team forward. prepare for a heartbreaking season

I honestly don't like how they flew to California and played in less than 48 hours, and then had to travel across country and play again 2 days after. In some way, this seemed also inhumane to me by modern standards. I also read Cucu, Cole and Conor (if he stays) won't be joining in pre-season which also concerns me about the time they'll need to gel together as the true starting 11.

Of Celtic's manager is an incredible manager with a lot more experiences than Enzo in terms of everything....that was the difference in the game setting out and plans
New keeper(Jorgensen), new striker (Oshimen), KDH, Enzo, Caciado, Palmer & Cucurella all to come back into the side. That's 7 Players!!! We have great depth, we have great talent and we have a great coach. What we don't have is much time, so be patient, support your team.
Chelsea wake up call, pre-season or not your league starts in 22 days against Man City. Both Schmeichel and Sanchez made some big saves the whole game, the idea is you win your pre-season games to see progression and systems that work which Celtic have done. Celtic are a really good side with quality players and Manager, would trouble Chelsea any day of the season.

Everybody melts away with the result of a friendly game that is meant to be preparation. People forget that we have a few new player and a new manager that is trying to implement a system players need time to be fit enough and time to make the system work.

Thing that fans don't get is that Enzo Maresca is not inverting players for the sake of it. Once you get this, you'll understand that Cucurella will mot give what Maresca wants. In Leicester, Ricardo Pereira was inverted for the same reason Reece and Malo are being invert now. Their control in close spaces and ability to carry the ball through.
So far Malo is doing well. Reece will come through, he's done this at Wigan. Relax people

Have you ever considered Celtic are just better? You've been humbled by a CL team. Would be frightening to see what Celtic would do with EPL TV money. Would turn that league upside down.
We need to start realising that we need the extra defender instead of midfielder. 3 at the back with 2 wing backs. Conte done it and Alonso and Moses were cooking down both flanks. Tuchel done it and Chilwell and James were the same.
most of James passes in midfield is back to the defenders. I don't see how effective he is as a inverted right-back. The guy is also slow regards to build up play; when the ball reaches him because he's not aware of his surrounding, all his passes is back to the defender which cause Celtic to get behind the ball.
A big wake up call for the system and Chelsea. Hope we learn by the mistakes that were made.
Petrovic & Chalobah. Both played well last season, yet are being pushed out. Trev in particular has not made any fuss and should not be constantly touted

if i were enzo meresca ,before playing high line u have to take advantage of effective gengen pressings , wing back most be good game readers and also be stable with ball possession . a solid anchor man with good game understanding combine with mixture of a destroyer and build up as central back list i forget a good striker like oshimen is needed in this squad. heres my players suggestion.

Preseason does not mean any performance at all should be acceptable.... A bad preseason makes it more difficult at the start of the season. Remember TT last season at chelsea, the preseason was also bad and it transferred into the season. In preseason, the second game should be better than the first not getting worst

however we are missing Cucu who will be highly effective. CP, and Enzo will create and help this attack tremendously. Caicedo should clean us up in defense, so i’ll reserve judgement until then.

Where do you use them and instead of whom? Does it make a difference to use Cai instead of Lavia, Palmer instead of Chuk? Yes, they're technically "better" but do they change the weaknesses of the system?

Palmer needs to play on the RW. We have KDH who already knows the system. He and Enzo will create more chances, better quality chances for the attack.
I don’t think Lavia and Caicedo will play at the same time. It’s possible they do, but if one of the FBs is inverting I’m not sure how that would work. Moi could play more forward as he has good ball retention, can score from distance, and carry the ball forward but that remains to be seen.
Either way it’s only preseason, this is the time to experiment and make mistakes.
We play man city on 18th Aug. Please don't tell me we can inprove from that performance in 3 weeks to even threaten man city. Even with Palmer cuccu and fernadez back.

i think it is absolutely unfair how we all criticize sanchez, he didn't do much wrong in this game...maybe he can take part blame for the pass to Badiashile but apart from that he was solid and made good saves....a lot of the times we judge this guys with past notions

It’s just preseason games, besides Mancity lost two straight games too. One thing I know for sure is that we need the energy and intensity of Gallagher to drive maresca system atleast for the first half of the season.. we need midfielders that can track back and cover the defense.. (caceido and Gallagher)
Our players are not as good as fans think they are. They may be better with experienced players around, but not when just kids around. Nkunku is not a superstar, please...

Josh, everything you said, was spot on. To me, i just don't understand why Chelsea didn't start their preseason a week or two earlier, like Spurs or Celtic. We could give a chance to Angelo and Fofana, and some other players. If you look at Spurs, their youth team beat Champions of Japan in the second half, and Celtic's second team minus beat Chelsea's top players in last 25 minutes, just because they were fit enough. Why do you need to wait until end of July? And Josh we are only guessing about Challobah and Petrovic and Gallagher. Let's hope against City all 3 of them will start
We learned that Chelsea should have signed 11 grannies. Since certain English fans are always saying their nan would be top scorer in Scotland.
The only consolation I have is that Maresca is "experimenting" during pre-season - which is actually a pretty good idea. If he's as good as he thinks he is, the performances we've seen thus far will not be seen when the season starts!
Chelsea will be lucky to win any games in America, they will be lucky to finish in the top 10 in PL.

Celtic literally start their campaign next weekend, we’re 4 weeks behind them when it comes to conditioning and only two weeks into yet another system change, with our most influential players still yet to return to training.
Right now I want no injuries, and physical improvement, would be nice if the players were picking up the tactics faster mind.

Fans over reaction to friendlies, Conte had a stinker pre season, we went on to lead from the first game to the last that season set a new record for points amassed in the first half of a season winning our opening 13 games.

Some of our players seem to lose concentration and composure. Daydreaming in defence and midfield and snatching at chances in attack . I thought we would beat celtic today as I did against wrexham. Some of the culprits in these mistakes seem at ease with their errors and look unconcerned. Well I am !

Sanchez sucks at distribution, yes, but he had a lot to do this game because of shitty defence. The defence was bad because Carney and Noni couldn't keep the ball and kept giving it away. Badiashile also is not a lone CB because he does not have the passing, the mentality or the composure to keep the ball and be relaxed. They do not suit the positional football.
The simple fact is that the best team won but don't take it too hard because you aren't the first PL team Celtic have beaten and you certainly won't be the last
