Thank you for this story. My first car was a 1978 Ford Mustang II. My father fell in love with it and every Saturday as soon as I got home from work, he would take my mom to dinner in it.
I once had elderly neighbors that moved here from Michigan. They worked in the Ford Plant and met them in person. When the war started, they started making parts there for our military equipment.
That’s really cool! A shame he died so young and the car that bore his name was a dud, he at least had heirs to take over. His father’s thought so anyway. He started divisions of Ford still in production. Rest in Paradise Edsel.
Looks like a pretty and well kept cemetery. I never knew how many kids Henry had. Thats great to hear that Edsel at least had established other car models and was successful--even though Edsel overruled him many times.
I also saw visited that cemetery. I saw the Fords, Rosa Parks, but Aretha Franklin was still alive. I guess I need to go back. Visited the Dodge Brothers also.
Edsel probably contacted Cancer because of ALL OF THE STRESS he was under!!!! I guess his father didn't want anyone to show "FAVORTISM", and they SURE DIDN'T!!!! Rest in Eternal Peace Edsel and wife.
The Dodge and Wilson mausoleums are very interesting at Woodlawn as well; the Dodge brothers are interred in a massive Egyptian style tomb and John's widow, Mathilda Wilson is right next to it where she is with her second husband,
Edsel Ford was Henry's only legitimate child. Henry Ford was a deeply flawed man and while he did play a huge role in bringing the automobile to the masses and changed manufacturing with the assembly line, he was not a man to be admired and emulated.
