- Police used a chainsaw to cut through a bemused grandfather’s front door in a drugs raid that he described as “heavy-handed”.
Terry Harrison, 67, was left stunned when masked officers swooped on his property on Tuesday after being tipped off that there was a stash of illegal substances inside.
Officers did not recover any during the search.

Why didn't they just knock?
For drugs raids they will sometimes break in without knocking so nobody has time to dispose of evidence. Absolutely awful in this case to cut his front door in half with no evidence besides a "tipoff" that could easily have been a malicious lie.
Why are we paying for this stupidity

Exactly what I thought, in fact I felt embarrassed for them! Nothing like knocking on the door and checking first.

Forced entries are made in order to seize the drugs before they can be disposed of.
Using a chain saw spoils the element of surprise a little bit.
Doing observations on the house, which they are supposed to do prior to getting the warrant, would have been better by eatching the man arrive home and then the door may have been unlocked.
This is absolute vandalism and thuggery at its worst .
Those responsible for all of this damage should be made to pay for it out of their own pockets , moreover the police force and the court official who authorised this on what was clearly insufficient evidence should be fined for this act of incompetence .
All seized property should be returned forthwith and a public apology must be made by both the Chief Constable and the Procurator Fiscal on behalf of the police and court services who both made grave errors .
The gentleman who was the victim of this home invasion should also escalate his complaint to his MP so that it can be addressed to the Home Secretary , who is ultimately responsible for policing and the courts .
