Absolutely love this. My first ever speedway meeting was under the lights at White City in that ‘76 season. Those iconic breast plates reflecting in the night and was it Lee, or Danny, Duntan’s idea of the gogo dancer on a table top at the starting gate? I was 9. I noticed 😂 I went for those three seasons and went to Rye House on Sunday afternoons from 76 to 80, so I got to see both of them win the league. I’m their lucky charm 😀 Who remembers that amazing Diamonds team of ‘76 Joe and Tom Owen were near un unbeatable, particularly Joe. Wouldn’t be allowed these days

The rider is Trevor Geer, who these days is team manager of the Eastbourne Eagles. It looks like a Press and practice day for the White City Rebels at the beginning of the 1976 season.

+John Gallon It is Richard Hellsen. He moved with the Oxford side to White City when the Cowley stadium closed. He went on to have a long career that included other British Clubs such as Kings Lynn and Long Eaton

Fantastic video. This is back when Ivan "The flying Kiwi" Magur ruled the roost almost anywhere he went in the World!!
I do hope that I've spelled his surname correctly, it doesn't look quite right. I mean I'd hate to do that Man a disservice like that. Not only was he 6 times World Short Track Champ, but also 3 Times World Long Track Champ, too. And he's a National Hero in New Zealand.
He also sadly passed away a few years back, so here's to you Champ 🍺

Sorry, but the rider in the white leathers is Paul Gachet; Kai didn't join the Rebels until after the season had started.
