I can't believe this song hasn't been done by any of the Games in Concerts (and all variants) yet! One of the most beautiful videogame tracks in existence. Great performance!
O.O ....You...You deserve an award....no, you deserve so many awards for this. The combination of your beautiful voice and the wonderful lyrics you made....its, a match made in heaven. Keep up the wonderful work please.
Why are there tears in my eyes... did I step on a lego?, was I cutting onions? No! It's because this was so beautifully done, it made me both happy and sad. Thinking and remembering the fond memories of my childhood and loved one who have passed. Out of all the Final Fantasy games VI is my absolute favorite. And while playing it back then and still now whenever I get to that part of Rachel's passing it makes me sad. Again you did an awesome job! Your lyrics and music! And great Locke cosplay :)
Aw, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think that's also how I usually feel when I start thinking about this storyline ... I have so much love for the game, and so much love for the characters, but there's just so much heartbreak involved, too. I think it's really interesting that so many stories make a big deal about "true love" and yet FFVI shows that even if you love a person deeply, you can move on with your life and love again. As sad as loss is, it's kind of nice to see a reminder that life can go on, even if it hurts. I really appreciate your support. And also being able to geek out with other FFVI fans. ♥
I love your Locke cosplay! Final Fantasy VI is my favorite! Celes and Locke my timeless lovers. ^_^ This is absolutely beautiful. And Rachel's story always made me sad. It is my favorite tale of love and loss. And I love getting into banters with fans of Final Fantasy VII about who is better, Kefka or Sephiroth, (in my opinion): Kefka because all Sephiroth ever did was whine and complain about how he and his "mother" were going to take over the planet. Where Kefka went from being a psychotic court mage to a freaking PSYCHO GOD!
Cetes Forge Kefka does actually succeed at destroying the world, which is more than most crazy evil bad guys can say! Also, I think it's interesting that he comes from a terrible abusive background (being experimented on since early childhood!) and maybe his madness is from being infused with magic. We'll never know. But I find that really interesting. Final Fantasy VI is my favorite, unless I'm in the middle of playing FFIX because I love Zidane so much. But Celes and Locke are my OTP ♥ I love them so much and I'm so glad to find other people who do too! So much tragedy... and so beautiful...
Wow. Yeah, this was one of my all time favorites as well, though in my personal experience it has become obscured by all the more popular themes that have been covered multiple times and had orchestral performances and whatnot. So considering all that, it's really great to see a new take on this. I'm not sure I agree with the other commenter about the lyrics not being sad enough, because it feels pretty damn sad to me. The context of the lyrics also fit from the way I remember the story in the game, and it also sort of strikes a personal chord with me relevant to real life things, increasing the poignancy even further. x_x; Anyway, very nice job and thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I'm glad the lyrics resonated for you and that you felt what I was trying to get across. I don't mind that it doesn't work for everybody, but it's nice to hear that it did work for someone. :) ...That said, I hope your real life things are okay ♥
Lovely part of the game. Such a tragic thing for Locke to have to carry with him (and Rachel didn't have it so great either, obviously). You did a fine job with the lyrics, I feel they could easily be taken as Locke's own feelings. Definitely one of my fave characters too, even if he does carry a phone in his pocket, the anachronistic bastard!
Haha! Thank you so much. Yes, this was my first time trying to make a video like this ... probably won't make another one quite like it by myself, but I learned a lot. I also learned a lot about writing lyrics. I don't know that it's actually a good video or a good cover, but I think it helped me do better in the future, and I love Locke and Rachel and Celes and that entire tragic story, so
First off, let me wipe the tears from my eyes...Good God... OK. There we go. Nice Locke costume. I myself love Locke...though I prefer my Kefka Costume at conventions. I'm always amazed at the work you provide through both vocal and instrumental pieces. If only you and The Returners ever came to SakuraCon or Emerald City ComicCon, you can bet I'd be there.
Oh! Thank you so much! ;_; I'm really glad you enjoyed this. We'd love to come out for either of those. Maybe drop the conventions a note suggesting us? :) I can apply, but they listen more to their attendees than they do to people like me...
Locke cosplay!!!! As always your vocals are fucking amazing, the backing vocals are perfect. Great job on that harp (I think) part as well, this sounded great. 2:49 idk why but I love that hand movement and the way you look/sing, powerful O.o
Ravetheguitarist Aw, thank you! The harp part is actually a MIDI (my first time; I can't use my keyboard with my new interface, and MIDIs are so much more efficient, so I'm probably going that route with piano/harp/guitar from now on). But the vocals are the real deal, and I'm glad you liked them! And my acting! I'm not really an actress by any stretch, but I had to try my best for this song. Maybe I'll try doing that again.. :)
happyricepaddle Thank you for being supportive! :D Lyrics are so hard to write, but now I feel like I have to try again so I don't let all of you nice people down. Let me know if you ever want to do a violin/flute/singing teamup attack -- I think it would be fun!
I love seeing the hard work put into people's uploads! So long as there's that you surely cannot disappoint. A violin/flute/singing collab sounds fun! I'll definitely let you know the minute I find or think of something interesting to play together, or if you do then don't hesitate to contact me :D
Hey, I really enjoy your music - I just found your channel yesterday. FF6 is one of my all-time favorites and having its music enhanced with your lyrics is great :] I wonder if you could do "Theme of Duster" from Mother 3. Your style of music immediately reminded me of that song. Thanks for being awesome :]
karu Oh, I don't know that song ... I'll have to look into it and ask my Mother-obsessed friends what they think. Thanks for the suggestion :) And I'm glad you liked the lyrics! I love FFVI so much, I really wanted to do it justice.
Lauren the Flute You should give Mother 3 a shot some time, it's one of my favorite RPGs, and a beautiful game in general. I'd love to hear your versions of some of those songs. You're a very talented lady :)
FFgamesftw I've had a few requests for Coin Song lately, so it's definitely on my mind! Would you like to see it with lyrics like this, or as an instrumental piece with flute and voice accompaniment?I love the sad music in FFVI so much ♥ I mean, I love ALL the music, but I have a definite weakness for the sad themes...
Beautiful work! Great job! I missed FF6 on its original release and never got around to playing it. I actually do have it on an emulator, so I'll have to give it a try one of these days. Especially if the music can inspire a great performance like yours in this video. :D
***** The soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard in a game. Uematsu has a really Wagnerian/Williamsian (is that a word?) approach to character themes and motifs in it ... it's really clever and emotional and wonderful. AND the game itself is really endearing and good, as long as you can take it in the context of its original release date. I love it so much ♥
Nice. And Williamsian shall henceforth become a word! :D I grew up in the late 80's/90s playing mostly multi-player games in a household of brothers. So the golden age of 16-bit RPGs passed me completely by in favor of other games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, NBA Jam and the classic platformers. I only got to play something like Chrono Trigger for the first time a few years ago and I could see how much I missed out on. In the words of AVGN's theme song, I need to go back to the past...but to play good games like FF6!
This smartphone appearing here and there breaks your cosplay. Doesn't match well with steampunk :) Otherwise I like this video but the song... It's not bad, but it's too optimistic comparing to my feeling I had listening to instrumental version. IMO it should be about pain of losing beloved one rather than loveing her/him forever, but I'm not sure if it's because of lyrics or your voice(I meant, it's not bad, it's just might be not sad enough) or maybe that's just how I see it. Thanks for song anyway, I'm glad you still cover FF VI soundtracks.
Greebo4 Haha, yeah, for some reason I completely forgot to put my phone out of view, and I didn't even notice it until that night when I was editing the video! I used it to play the music so I could sing along... lesson learned. I'm still relatively new to this music video sort of thing :) Next time I'll do better. For me, I wanted to get across the fact that Locke does move on in his life - maybe that's because I am such a huge fan of Locke and Celes together, and while I really love how devoted Locke is to Rachel, I also like that his life goes on. So I wanted to have that note of hope at the end. But I can definitely see how you would think the song is sad all the way through! The original is certainly heartbreaking.
Locke...I mean, Lauren, great work you did there, all the way. I encourage you to keep your writing for songs such as this.
Thank you! I'm going to try a few more and see how they go. It's challenging, but a fun sort of challenge.
Years have passed, it's 2020, but I still remember the memories of playing Final Fantasy VI, the best memories I have ...
If they don’t change ANYTHING and keep out our woke/politics, I’d love them to remake this game to our graphics today.
I can't believe this song hasn't been done by any of the Games in Concerts (and all variants) yet! One of the most beautiful videogame tracks in existence. Great performance!

Dbgtinfinite, AKA Infinite Thank you ;_; I'm really glad you like it! So you would like to see more original lyrics in the future?
Lauren the Flute I would *love* it if you did more original lyrics.
Oh my God. I LOVE THIS! And LOVE the Locke-esque costume!!
Thank you! I love Locke and I love this game, so I had to do it :)
I'm crying... Much better than gameplays.
You’re a gorgeous human being

Nailing the story between Locke and Rachel! I love it!
I love this track, this is one of the most emotional themes of FF series, your cover is beautiful
Thank you! This cover was a big risk for me, but I'm glad you like it. It's one of my favorite songs in the series, too.
It's a success :)
I tend to forget this exists and then find it again every so often. And each time it seriously moves me.
Beautiful performance! I love your Locke outfit too!

Oh freak. You just added a whole new layer of dimension to Kefka!
Awesome
I always thought this was one of the saddest songs in the game. Great job and love the costume!

Lauren the Flute Odd. Did not get a notification on your reply. Yes, I will happily suggest you guys!

I am impressed!!! so nice!
It's like the opera for Locke and Rachel.

Very beautiful. If you looking for another good sad FFVI song to play I think Coin Song or Epitaph would be other prime candidates.

great. attractive
Lauren is locke's long lost daughter =)
I remember naming Celes "Rachel" one playthrough just to spite Locke. I'm horrible.
Such a troll thing to do ;)
