- Former Aboriginal Land Council chair Roy Ah-See claims his culture has been “hijacked” for “hidden agendas” after Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek knocked back the development of a gold mine.
“It undermines the very existence of my people’s culture and the structures we have for who speaks for country,” he said during the 2024 Bush Summit in Orange on Thursday afternoon.
“I’m very, very annoyed because how are we going to close the gap? The biggest killer of Aboriginal people in this country is alcohol and drugs, it’s absolute poverty and welfare dependency.
“And here we’ve got a minister who’s knocking back a billion-dollar mine that could create economic empowerment for my people.”
Wouldn't it be good if Tanya Plibasyk and Albo would have the guts to turn up and explain this decision,,,, this is grotty mischievous politics by the Labor Government,,,,grow a backbone Albo and Tanya and fess up !!
Exactly 👏
Thank you for posting this. What this bloke said sums up the indigenous situation well, in regards to the rotten indigenous industry. It backs up what Jacinta Price and Pauline have been saying.
Have you been to Dubbo..Orange..Wellington…Blaney …Bathurst …Canowidra..Cudel ..Lucknow..Molong and actually see how the indigenous get handouts…and destroy everything they get….it is just like Boggabilla..rife with crime..drunks..kids roaming the streets causing havoc and mayhem..then lining up At Centrelink for more handouts…and the Housing Authority for more free housing…I was born there..that’s first hand knowledge.
And us old ladies who are no fools.
Wow How shameful.
Please vote labour out
Greens last and LABOR 2cnd last.
Wake up, both sides are not for the people.
Go hard Roy, the rest of Australia is with you 100%
I am not with you roy. Never will be.
@@paulchilds9137Yeah ...you criticise and judge people all the way down to the hat they're wearing .....who is going to take you seriously
All good people speaking. I was impressed with the fella on the Aboriginal council. Agreed with everything he said
Tanya's refusal to clarify the situation to the Aboriginal Land Council shows her arrogance toward the community she claims she is fighting for.
She is anything but transparent, being very secretive and ignoring the backlash from the community, she is legally bound to listen to.
No wonder Labor cannot run an economy, so the Australian people pay with poor growth and high inflation.
What a load of shite..if you believe this garbage you need to educate yourself what Orange is really like..I was born there and this is all smoke and mirrors…it is nothing like the corporates are trying to get past to believe..it all money oriented.
Agree
Secret Women's business hides a lot of truth. And is abused by Aboriginal Activists . One person can do a lot of damage and this activist has done exactly that.
@@patricksharp1063 I don't know why the miners don't take them to high court. Mining is important for the nation. It waht brings in most of our nation GDP
@@Nathan-ry3yu I have read 379 tonnes of Gold alone, is mined annually in Australia
I do hope you can all stand up to her and this small activist group and I hope you win and make her resign... Please Australia wake up and vote this labour government out
Courage is not a virtue that Tanya has whatsoever. Lying and Deceiving she has in spades .
Its amazing how random land in nowhere Australia suddenly becomes "sacred" as soon as a mega project gets planned for the area....🤬
OR where there's money to be made!!!!!
@@SueNicholls-95 Well yeah, that's what follows on from them claiming it's sacred. I work in mining and it's absolutely ridiculous. I've had them claim a tree is sacred despite it only being a few years old. The tree literally didn't exist before the mine was built.
Anyone would think there isn't 450 tribal people's around the land and all the decendendants of colonials and immigrants are the only inhabitants
@@djhemirukahemisphere8893 there's bugger all tribes still out and about. These days they are all driving around cars paid for with welfare money, drinking welfare funded alcohol, not working to better the country.
I agree she should stand down.
Well said Roy ❤️
Bring on the election asap , Labor are finished
The aboriginal 'Gap' will never be closed. They don't want it closed. That's the cash cow. The rich aboriginals need it to justify even more taxpayer money be given to the aboriginal industry.
Yep - Pearson is worth over $30 million that he siphoned off from 'projects' in the Cape
And what have the aboriginal corporations done for there communities Australia wide other than fill there own pockets
@@cobar5342 $30 million? I didn't know that. I knew he was a crook, pocketing government money for aboriginal projects and services that he only partially delivers or doesn't deliver at all.
And the greedy money grubbing prick still wants more???
There needs to be a forensic audit of that annual $40 billion. Very little of that money reaches the outback communities. The city indigenous elite activists live high on the hog and you can bet they didn't work for the money that provides their rich lifestyle!!!
@@SueNicholls-95 I absolutely agree. Those in the cities do not give a damn about the bush.
The behaviour of Plibersek after the fact suggests strongly to me that she has to go. This whole thing smacks of deceit and arrogance of the highest order. The mining company should take her to court and bankrupt her, then she should be jailed by the authorities. Her behaviour is criminal.
Good on you speaking up strongly regarding the aboriginal process, being ignored. Training and jobs for all including aboriginal people. Good on you speaking up. You know better than Plibersek.
Plibersek is so out of touch, just like every other Labor MP.
An absolute slap in the face to ALL Aboriginal Land Councils who legal authority can be both ignored over-ruled by an incompetent Minister who seems to be pandering to green votes. Those who might be pleased/appeased by this decision will still vote green. A disgrace!
Stop this “cultural/heritage site” nonsense.
Here here
Agree 100% 👍👍
Well spoken.
Surely the only sensible outcome of this kind of situation is to repeal all legislation relating to native title and resume all of the country from aboriginal control or influence. All aboriginal people are decendants of one or more settlers since 1788, so they are like all other Australian citizens - this means that they should have no special rights over any piece of this nation.
No need to be concerned about cutting down trees for the tailings dam, the Government is cutting down tens of thousands of trees for the swindle farms.
Vote labour out
The Libs are just as stupid when it comes to indigenous issues
How do you trust someone, when there husband was charged with selling drugs, that should be enough to expell her. She is in the take,
So you judge people by association..not as an individual.

Truth doesn’t mind scrutiny but lies never like to be questioned….
So if an indigenous Australian on an island off WA claims all future solar and wind farm projects will interfere with "songlines" of local migratory birds then all wind/solar projects will get cancelled?
Only if it will benefit a billionaire share holder because Thats who is really upset here over this mine not some aboriginal group .
I lived and worked on a sttation ajoining Jigaiong community, i could tell you the truth. However, it's futile, and the truth is irrelevant . To put in plainly, I'm pissed off. Listening to the bush summit, all i feel is sad for real Australians, especially our indigenous brothers. Bear
Great conversation, Indigenous empowering is the key 🔑, definitely 👏💯🏡🗳👌🇺🇸🇦🇺🔑 20:36
I dont approve of the offshore shareholders. We are selling the country off for a quick buck
Just remember the Hindmarsh Island bridge controversy, it was a 1990s Australian legal and political controversy that involved the clash of local Aboriginal Australian sacred culture and property rights. A proposed bridge to Hindmarsh Island, near Goolwa, South Australia (intended to replace the existing cable ferry and service a proposed marina development) attracted opposition from many local residents, environmental groups and indigenous leaders. In 1994, a group of Ngarrindjeri women elders claimed the site was sacred to them for reasons that could not be revealed. "Secret women's business", as the group's claims became known, became the subject of intense legal battles. Some Ngarrindjeri women came forward to dispute the veracity of the claims. The Hindmarsh Island Royal Commission found that "secret women's business" had been fabricated. Subsequently, the Howard Government passed the Hindmarsh Island Bridge Act (1997), which allowed construction to go ahead. The bridge was completed in March 2001.
That royal commission happened after Howard was elected as the company involved in the marina development threatened to sue the government to recoup some of the money lost in the planning of the development. Maybe this mining company could look to do similar so that the truth can come out.
Can stop mining, but not the destruction of property in Alice Springs!!!!!!
There’s something special about Orange. They appear to have their stuff together.
Follow the money trail.
Why is federal government interference in state process’s?
Why do we not respect the process?
This creates a doubt in the land councils authority to give permissions for mine. This very much goes against Albo’s principles of listening to traditional Australians. Great to see the land council come and say they support this project and it’s not there voice of opposition.
Yet wind turbines and roads to them can be put up no problems?
And thousands of hectares of forests, animal habitats and farming land destroyed for those ridiculous useless fans and mirrors!!
No activists throwing their poo from tripods over workers, while they rip the bush to shreds.
@@brettralph3403
But they still go ahead .
Why did Tanya wait till this late stage to stop this project .Interrogate the process of the minster and her staff . The mine boss said they have been talking to everyone every step of the way. People who start Billion dollar mines are at the apex of process, these type of people are as serious as a heart attack. Mining executives dot the i and cross the t there are no gaps in the tetras .
She did not get a new penthouse from the company.....Like Palasheh
This gold company wants to put an open cut gold mine on good agricultural land. Do people know how awful tailings dams are, they are filthy. They dump chemicals used in a mine into a dam which can leak into local watercourses. The mine only lasts 11 years, the poisoning lasts centuries.
He is absolutely right
Government still destroying Australian water ways
Not true. Environmental concerns were met and satisfied.
Take a look at the Murry darling basein take a look at what the northern territory government is letting happen with cotten have a look at how much water is used and the chemicals and take a look at the run off into those beautiful rivers so look with open eyes and tell me I'm rong
@@phills.Yep ....... you are wrong .
@meichong8278 have you seen with your own eyes what this kind of mining does to the land. I have and its absolutely heartbreaking.
@@Keyrose-my3xr it is an eyesore but only a very tiny part of a big big country. You want to make omelets, you have to break some eggs

No No No. can’t the Albo do anything right
Yeh that bloke is well and truly ticked off!
Tanya Plibersek is doing what the rest of the Fed ALP are doing. Ignoring what the locals want.
In this case it's the local aboriginal land council that's being ignored in favour of a very small group of people (not necessarily aboriginal) led by a woman who isn't even Wiradjuri. She didn't even know she was part aboriginal until she stumbled onto her heritage. How on earth does she get away with that?
And this secrecy about her reasons? That's not what any Australian wants.
Hancock did warn Australians that the aboriginals people will be a thorn in Australia's side in the future .
The whole labor clown show has to go
Where is Plumberscrack? She is front and centre of the gold mine not proceeding
Nothing if not misogynistic Pork Chop.
The gold mine is proceeding..it’s the “tailings” they need to find a dam for…they are ground up rock…into sand…minus the gold….they need water to flush the ground rock away.
Sorry about that . We have escaped lunatics running around thinking their politicians.
Do you even know what..”Tailings “ and the process really involves.
This is so currupt
Tanya seems to have totally lost the plot.
Good on transparence
Many of us knew these hijacking would take place…..we were warned….
Didn't get a big enough cut ?.
All activists have self interests yet disguise it as “talking for all Australians”.
aboriginal people are just in the way now
God help Australia if she ever becomes Prime Minister she always has that false smile on her face, is there oneLabor minister we can trust in this country?
NO!!
No
She talks to WEF on the phone every chance she gets ,asking have I been a good girl .
Commonthread here and united Kingdom
If the Greens had their way, Australia would be closed for business. I wonder how much of this decision is related to some Labor - Greens deal.
This Federal Labor Government should be kicked out of office and Tanya Plibasyk should go to jail with the PM as well
Accountability of the politicians is paramount for change. Its not just Orange, its all over Australia. Oyr government is commiting treason against its people.
They found a greenie to say what ever Plibasyk wanted her to say to stop this mine, sack her now. She wont explain why she is ignoring the Aboriginal land council, she has to go and go now.
Dig, baby dig, iron just fell to the floor, gold at 2000 bucks a kilo
Gold is 2000$ a kilo 😮 lol what an Oz maybe
120k a kilo !!
Tailings are minus the gold…they need water to grind the rock into sand.
Get it right 2ooo per ounce
And an iron ore mine in western Australia was sold to an China business in great Britain
He's annoyed because some "indigenous" people have "undermined" his peoples existence and culture and are claiming his land.....now he knows how most Australians feel, it sucks hey matey.
This is another reason they want The Voice, this will give the Labour Party more control over land rights.
No such thing as an indigenous leader, the elected government is the leader
All who haaa. It will be done it's $2000 + an ounce........
Ministers should not ever be given the power to make decisions they can't back up their cases under scrutiny . Im all for the Aboriginal young getting trained up for jobs in these projects as they're being destroyed and lost .
Aboriginal elders are just 40+ that's their claim to fame...
Next census everybody born in Australia should identify as indigenous. Then maybe something will get done.
everyone who was born in Australia is Indigenous to the country, that goes for everyone across the world wherever they were born they are Indigenous to it, only difference is the cultural background, Indigenous was a word given by white folk
The Aboriginal Victim Industry that funds city Intellectuals and Activists, while keeping rural and regional Aboriginals destitute, needs to be deconstructed. It clearly gets to tell Elected Officials what to do, and this is without the changes Albanese wanted to the Constitution.
Tanya has just given people more reasons not to vote for Labor in the next election.
I think Tanya won’t say is because there is no reason for blocking it
This makes my blood curdle. Tanya needs to go, this is so disgusting.
None of these grubs will resign, they lose too many tax payer funded benefits and perks
Plibersek with no environmental training can carry out such a dramatic decision. The phoneys will reward Plibersek handsomely no doubt.
Plibersek hiding, how convenient
The alleged Aboriginal woman who stopped this project has doubtful validity of claiming Aboriginality same as Hindmarsh island con job. Local land councils doubt this claim
Roy Ah-See is a powerful voice for the Aboriginal Community's across our Nation. Shame he's not available to vote for in our Australian Parliament.

Why are they not getting Pauline involved ? She's been pushing this "secrecy" ... it's got to stop. All this because of the voice vote ???
A deal with the greens, that's what it is. BTW, Roy should be with Jacinta in parliament.
Until Australian citizens start getting the royalties and these big mining companies start paying up then it's time to restructure mining in Australia. These overseas companies raping our resources needs to stop yesterday.
Plibersek Again!
What politicians say compared to what indigenous people say and want. Like all parents want for their children, indigenous people want for their children, it’s not rocket science.
