Sega Rally 2006 - Arcade Series 4 -

- Sega Rally 2006 is a JP PS2-exclusive racer from Sega, and it's quite an excellent and sadly fairly unknown and underappreciated racer at that. Arcade Series 4 contains remade courses from the original Sega Rally, making it a very fun set of tracks.
It's quite the difficult game! What you don't see in this video are the 2,5 hours of me playing these four tracks over and over again, timeouting in the last course with the finish line visible. There are no retries here, you have to start the whole series from the start every time. A single big mistake or a handful of small ones is enough to ensure that you won't have enough time to finish the series. You will need to learn how to control the car, learn the courses, learn where the AI cars will be and learn how to deal with them to have any chance of clearing it.
Car: Subaru Impreza (MT)
Times:
01: African Round (Desert) - 00:54.490
02: North American Round (Forest) - 01:16.978

04: Scandinavian Round (Lakeside) - 01:07.401
Total: 04:20.694

So, 3 years ago I mentioned I'd had a really brief play on this using an emulator, but that was it - got distracted by other stuff and never really put any time into it. Decided to give it a bit more of a try today - Really wanted to love it; love the little touches like the recreation of the Desert Stage from Sega Rally 2 and these original Sega Rally stage recreations in the video here, think the handling for the most part is pretty good too. But it's like whoever was in charge of quality control and playtesting over at Sega JP forgot to change the game difficulty back to 'normal human' difficulty from 'retardedly difficult' before the game was released. I've managed to complete and get 1st on Arcade Stage 3, but fucked if I can do it on Arcade Stage 4, keep running out of time on Lakeside with the finish just in sight (game is an utter prick in this regard too, in that the second the timer hits zero it's game over, you don't get a little grace period where you roll to a stop once it's run out - the difference in some arcade racers between making it over the finish line with a nanosecond to spare). Had a quick try on Arcade Stage 6 (that opened up after getting a podium in 3). It's 4 courses that consist entirely of hairpins and chicanes. Fucking ridiculous - couldn't even catch up to the next car in front of me on the third race, couldn't even make it to the first check point on the fourth. The AI cars are really annoying too, if you so much as clip them, they seem to suddenly match your speed exactly and become really hard to overtake. Annoying considering how narrow some of the tracks get and the fact that until you pass them, the rubber bandy car in front of them will keep staying out of your reach. Grrr. Maybe the Arcade Series, hasn't got many parts to it, but it feels like the difficulty shouldn't be jumping to Marubaku level already by the 4th series. I know you're a pretty good player at racing games Ghegs, if this early arcade challenge is taking _you_ nearly three hours to complete then something's wrong with the difficulty.
Very *nice* time
Cool upload! I heard that the original Sega Rally tracks were in Sega Rally 2006, but I'd never actually seen a video demonstrating them before. I've played this a tiny little bit on my PC using PCSX2, I must give it a bit more of a try.
The tracks are very detailed and the course themes are remixed.
I always thought that the lakeside track was in the UK. But this version has a clear Finland flair to it.
I've been wanting to play this game ever since I learned of it's existence years ago. I might actually be able to now with emulation. I'd also like to play Sega Rally Revo.
In SEGA Rally 2 you get cars for every series/championship you win, what do you get in SEGA Rally 2006?
Arcade series 4,5,6 you got car too
What’s the best car and is there any cheats?
Oh that's too bad this PS2 game was released for Japan only :(
It is indeed a shame, the game is sadly unknown and underappreciated because of it.
Ho ! GGG
j'adore ton contenu mec continue c'que tu fais !
Et ouais c'est dommage qu'il ne soit jamais sorti ici...
@@Pazulax Merci :) Oui oui t'inquiète je continue.
Today I beat your time. It was 4:17.734
Hey, good job, it's a tough game. It's been a long time since I've really focused on time attacking a game, I do miss it.
how did you win?
I drove really fast? Not sure what you mean.
ghegs I mean is there something you’re doing, because no matter what I can’t win.
@@Leedleleedle101 Just won it myself after much suffering. Turns out that your time is either made or broken at stage 3 (the mountain course). My advice, go on time attack, find Europe stage 15 and try to get your times below 1:02.
@@Leedleleedle101 It's impossible, and I'm pretty quick at the original Sega Rally
@@pioneerspine Hello mate, fancy seeing you here. Great minds and all that :)
