For clarity: In the first video, *the online modes couldn't be tested* because they hadn't come, well, online. I said this in the original video. Now that they've fully launched the multiplayer we can see how bad the servers are which is why I made this update video to alert people instead of pretending everything is fine. 99.9% of you guys understand this, but some seem to be struggling... lol
Matches offline are maybe 5 minutes long at that. It was never like that before hand. You can’t even enjoy a match without the game ending and going to a new game.
@tquestions I haven't had that experience on ps5, my issues either it are all solo play issues. MP has just been fine for me.
It definitely needs some serious network AND main game fixes. So far, I've had my immersion broken by AI not being as smart as it was on the original game, random crashes, noises glitching out and becoming bass boosted, noises playing with the wrong cues, lack of singleplayer post mission cutscenes (aswell as the cutscenes that are in are super compressed and lagged), BF1 being for the most part under worked on, glitched player models (mainly the rocket trooper), etc. Mp is fine for me now, my main issues are the solo play stuff which is honestly my biggest thing. If you fail offline play then you fail overall. I recently just compared the PS2 version and the ps5 version and tbh ps2 has the best experience for offline.

The biggest problem is you have 64 players in a match with only 100 tickets with no way to change it. That's not even 2 kills per player. The game ends before it even really begins. Have the devs even played the game?

It’s just lazy rerelease from Aspyr (just like Republic Commando and Racer). Slapped some AI upscaling without even compressing them and viola modern game!
Aspyr fumbling an easy win regarding a classic game launch? Impossible.
100 tickets a game means games only last like 10 minutes at max which is absurdly short for this kind of game. You spend more time in the menus and connecting than playing.

7:30 I'm sorry, I'm not giving Aspyr this excuse. All they had to do was get 64 play testers in a lobby and they would have seen how atrocious the servers performed. This is negligence and incompetence to a huge degree.
Bruh there was probably like 6-8 dudes that made this in 6-8 months with maybe a few QA testers, I doubt it though.

Anything that is an "update" of old games, wait a month. They're literally not worth the pain of dealing with them at launch. I know these two games were classic and amazing back in the day, but no company seems to release a remaster/updated version of a game in any capacity that matches the original. Which is pretty sad given the giant leap in technology of today.

The Galactic Contention mod for Squad is where the true SW developers are. hell if EA updated SWBF2 2017, added space and land battles on one map, upped the player count and called it SWBF3 they'd print money. Instead they went the cashgrab route as always.

People forgot this game is coming from the same people who had to announce the dlc for KOTOR2 wasn’t coming out after announcing they’d give it to fans and then put their games on sale as an apology not to mention some of their ports being super buggy AND shutting down their production of the KOTOR remake but our saving grace was another company picking it up shortly after, honestly I was hopeful but also not surprised this happened, people got too hyped and not trying to sound like an asshole for saying it either but ever since their announcement of this game no one seemed to have remembered the companies history…

This is about servers, so it's a different problem, but I'll definitely be paying attention to how they follow up.
The fact you can play the OG games with community servers and they are more stable than the official rerelease.
Until they pull the OG games from digital stores, at which point this rerelease is your only option.

@@CharlieTheSupersaurus It has native two players split screen and the Xbox Dlcs (which aren't even brand new, they took a mod and readapted it for this rerelease).
Everything else is a direct downgrade, especially the multiplayer and the game size (literally 50gb vs the 2gb of the original, how the hell did they even do that.

Campaigns are missing entire cutscenes! Altered lighting update has ruined the whole look of levels to the point of washed-out, gray-scale. Can't invert Y-axis on mouse or controller (Originals you can. This can thankfully be achieved with Steam Input's overlay). No crossplay (was advertised, but that advertisement has since been removed). Split-screen is now limited to 2-player (Originals had 4-player split screen on Xbox and via the official Multi-tap adapter for PS2). Textures, while sharper, are lazily just A.I. upscaled; and some aspects of the games (HUD/Main Menu) aren't even properly redone, they're simply left stretched from the original 4:3 aspect ratios. Online multiplayer is an abysmal mess.
Both the original SWBF1 and SWBF2 on Steam are ~11 GB combined. If you were to add the upscaled teztures mod for both the originals with widescreen patches, this brings the original games combined to only 18 GB. I am trying to wrap my head around where the other ~42 GB in this new re-release to make it nearly 60 GB is coming from!
I won't tell you how to spend your money; but I simply refuse to support this garbage. Even with Aspyr's reputation to drop the ball consistently, I foolishly still had my hopes up for this collection. Day ruined, man.
Models are upscaled too right?... Right??? Beacuse slapping 4k textures on low-poly models from original is just silly.
PS5 version released with Ventress straight up being the outdated version of the mod on moddb, which Aspyr said they only used for making the trailers. I think the switch version is the only one able to turn off inverted starfighter controls even though literally all versions of the original game had this option. A lot of texture and lighting issues. Some audio is weird sounding, like the BF1 loading screen sound, BF2 victory sound...
So many issues with this release I just don't know what they were thinking.
EDIT: Just remembered that all doorways in the capital ships in BF2 have a white cube in the middle of em. Shouldn't be there of course

nah dont bother mate pirate it. It will be dead and you'll have more fun in singleplayer and I can tell you as someone who got BF2 on release for the PS2 it's not worth $5 in todays market. One of my top 5 games of all time sure but it had its time and place and now? Get it for free and have some fun in singleplayer

apart from massive layoffs throughout the industry, server capacity issues(unwillingness to put more money into it) seems to be the biggest problem for online games these days.

I was willing to forgive some of the multiplayer problems because I primarily play singleplayer but when I learned that half of the cutscenes in the battlefront 2 campaign are missing thats a nope and a refund from me. Like how do you fuck that up

The sad thing is if this was how the trilogy was treated I would of liked it much more, Imo The defective edition was much worse, at least this wasnt being marketed as a remaster and more of a port, the trilogy made almost everything worse than the originals except for i guess the lighting and controls

From what I remember with the GTA collection it was outsourced to a company who then outsourced it and the team behind it didn't get a lot of the jokes like "tough nut" showing a hex nut and the team thought that was a pixel issue so they made the hex nut round like a washer. If anything thats an argument for companies to pay more to keep the work localized. Kinda like tech support issues you know?
Other than the multiplayer issues, there are three other massive issues for me specific to the PC version:
1. Mouse input feels super wonky and off, likely due to this being a console port and the game trying to translate mouse input into analog stick input.
2. The UI and menus are terrible on PC with a mouse and keyboard. Again a side effect of porting the console version.
3. At ultrawide resolutions, the UI is super bugged. Certain parts (like the ammo counter) are stretched while others are not. Class select screen looks terrible. Feels like your actual view is just 16:9 cropped at the top and bottom.
This is really unfortunate. Idk how they fucked this up. This was my favorite childhood game. Thank you for covering this Luke

The launch last night was super bad online but I still had fun with single player and with the few online matches I was able to get into
as someone who works in the server business, it's literally takes them minutes to increase capacity, it just a cost issue, which as it's a MP game , should already be accounted for esp as they knew demand based on wishlists and pre sales

1:10 When I played it last night, the exact moment it launched, the Xbox version had 6 official servers. It doesn’t really improve much since it was all still laggy beyond belief, but this kind of makes me question how many people Aspyr actually thought would play this game.
I agree. I could understand if they thought it was going to be really niche, considering the games are 20 years old, but they could still see the pre-order numbers. It’s genuinely baffling!
I played some this morning and there wasn't any lag maybe it was just because the game just released and there was max server load?
@@BootyWorm_v1 Doesn’t change the fact that they only had a few servers to fit around 250 people only, along with Private Servers not working as intended.
@@BootyWorm_v1 it seems like it doing client side hosting, so if you live in a big city, the odds you find a near server is good, but it dependant on the host internet. For a 2024 game esp with 64 players this is unacceptable. They need to ramp up offical servers and not hope the community fills the gap.
Private, Client hosting is fine, but it's an extra and will always be more susectible to exploits, lag then if they hosted them at a Datacentre across all regions

Glad someone did a video on this I debated on getting this at launch but then saw on x that something was up so decided not to but wasn’t exactly sure of the issue
I was playing hero assault and once I died I couldn't respawn, so I had to leave the lobby lol. A lot of players in the lobby had the same problem as well and left.

Nope I knew they'd mess it up. It's just the way. I try not to be a rotten person but I couldn't help giggle reading the comments before release. So full of hope. Personally I don't get the hype. I had both games, I got 2 on release. Played it endlessly and loved it. Never played online. That being said why would I wanna spend $35 to play a 20 year old game that I have fond memories of? So some sweaties online can tank me and ruin the experience? Thankfully my folks kept the old consoles and games so I can replay them and realise its nostalgia goggles at work.

Still going to buy it since the single Player is actually polished also Because I don't have any other Affordable option.
I got it on PS5 and I was able to get into a few games. My main issue with the game is that while the player count has increased, tickets have not. Games only last a few minutes.
Multiplayer for the old 2004 version on steam still works fine.
Within 15-30 minutes of release
(9 PM PST which was midnight for EST)
They sent about 2 to 3 updates
2 short ones and the 3rd one was an update of 20-30gb

Seems like they literally just throw you onto the same old, stuttery, unsupported servers from the old games. Cuz that's exactly how the 2005 servers perform.
I consider myself lucky because the game runs like a charm for me. Even the multiplayer. I have a stable 250fps. I wish they would fix all the issues others have. My only complaints are:
- The lack of invert Y axis option
- Buggy audio. Some are slowed down, pitched down, delayed... etc.
- The 62 fucking gigabyte space it needs. That is the same as Elden Ring and more than the Witcher 3 for comparison.

Companies think that these older games aren't worth it and that nobody plays them but almost every game has some cult following of adults wanting to relive the experience.
I believe that this is the Age of Remasters, the perfect time for Older games to be remade with great graphics and even changed a bit to make them perfect.

I was playing a little bit last night after a vigor and black ops 2 session and was laughing at matches lasting a grand total of 4 minutes. I played both games on the xbox in the mid-2000s and remember more long and exciting matches.

Got this on PS5, and there is no option in the menus to invert the Y axis. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but for me, I can't play it with the default settings. Really a bummer.
I'm having an issue with splitscreen on the Switch version: it just says "Please Insert Controller" for player 2, even when I have two controllers paired to the console. Does anyone know why this is? Do both players need to have a Nintendo Online account even for offlline splitscreen play? It's breaking my heart since the whole reason I bought this game was to introduce my friends to classic Battlefront.
I haven't bought a AAA game in a decade and I could never be happier.
The latest game I bought was RDR on sale and for me it was worth it. But looking at these flops again and again I can't help but feel gaming has become very masochistic. Throwing money at games and defending companies who see you as no more than a cash cow or a paypig is quite a sight. Everyone says "Well what about Helldivers 2?" which shows they can only list 1 game that exceeds the standard. I love it

Battlefront 2 from DICE be poppin off right now! Just played each trilogy for conquest with full lobbies on Xbox series X. I love OG battlefront bought it when it dropped as a kid but this is so sad to see. Waiting for patches to buy 💯
My big thing is look inversion. I play inverted and for the original games to have that feature but the re-release doesnt is super annoying. My experience with the multiplayer was that I shot an AI rebel in the back 20 times and 2 registered. Waiting on the quality of life updates that hopefully come in the next 24 hours.
If not then i made sure to play less than 1 hour in case of a refund situation.

Honestly didn't even get as far as playing an online match because I couldn't finish the tutorial without inverted aiming.
Honestly this is exactly how I remember the game felt back in 2005. Big chaotic laggy matches but we had nothing better at the time so it was the best.
My all time favorite is Battlefield 2142 it was released a year later but I remember like it was so much better than Battlefront.
Question for anyone who's tried Split-Screen on this: Is Player 1's half of the screen noticably darker than Player 2's half? Because that's what happened on my PS5 earlier tonight.

I tried multiplayer last night and my game would crash ,lag freeze at 1 during the respawn countdown .today I played solo game of conquest and all the audio cut out and had to restart application then tried online game and the screen turned green and the game actually turned off my playstation on its own
Fix the servers, add console crossplay, fix the crashing on consoles and for some weird fucking reason make the aspyr servers have aim assist (on console) cuz without it the games shooting is ass maybe if PC can crossplay ever happens with console than have those servers with aim assist turned off other than that games perfectly fine imo I got what I wanted and am happy

tbh they probably thought (and rightfully so) that the pull for this would die off by like 95% after the first week of nostalgia dies down, but I dunno why they didn't just hire a bunch of servers on a weekly basis and then cull them as the usercount dies.
Gamers get what they deserve. Keep preordering, keep buying the second a game launches. I'm sure things will change someday if everyone keeps doing it.
Fortunately, all the good memories I have of the classic Battlefront games consist of the single player content; I never really got into the online multiplayer side of it and will purchase the classic collection purely for the single player modes. Knowing that the online gameplay is broken just saves me the trouble of testing it myself.
Until aiming and online servers are fixed, I’ll just stick to OG ones via backwards compatibility on Xbox

Was looking for a comment who said it but I didn’t see one. They only had like 6-9 official severs listed for BF1 and BF2. (Didn’t go back and count them) The rest all look like hosted matches that you could join. which explains why there were only two people playing on most. Someone hosting to play with a friend or two. So there still aren’t a lot of official servers but they doubled the amount or more so there’s that lol.
I know it’s 20 years old, but I could have told the Dev’s this was the best Battlefront and by word of mouth alone this would have sold copies - depending on if they’d hadn’t bought the originals already as these both arrived on Xbox a couple years ago with Backwards Compatibility.

Seeing how they screwed up the controller settings by not including inverted controls I’m not surprised by the lack of servers. Inverted controls are totally missing from both 1 & 2. This is unacceptable for a game that old and it’s 2024. Unfortunately devs don’t give a crap about the players or they would include this from the start, but I’m finding more and more that do a half ass job on control options and that’s sad.
There were 8 dedicated servers on BF2 last night.
No issues with lag or hit reg or anything, everyone is just copy-pasting the 1st hour issues.

I logged thousands of hours on the original SWBF2 on PC. I don't think people remember how 'broken' the original game was. I could go on an on with specifics. But that's what made the game special and gave it a challenging skill ceiling especially at the competitive level.
8:56 happened all the time in the original. The original couldn't handle when a mine detonated in a high traffic area in online.. the game would freak out just like that. We just learned to deal with it back then.. After 20 years of multiplayer 'improvement' in the gaming industry.. its a lot more obvious now.. but like its stated.. this isn't a remaster.. so they didn't actually fix a lot of the issues that were there from the very very beginning.
So instant action is still totally playable right? Its just the multiplayer thats messed up?

I’ve seen people mostly on TikTok saying that what else should we have expected for a 15+ year old game. Like bro the age of the game has nothing to do with the lack of servers!!
I do love the double standard though of how Hell Divers 2 had the same problem yet they also knew how many people pre ordered.
Arrowhead was prepared for the number of people that preordered, and in the first few days the servers ran well, then as word of mouth spread a ton of people started buying the game and servers got overloaded, they increased the capacity pretty quickly though despite having hundreds of thousands of people more than initially accounted for. As you can see, there is no double standard.

@@user-vd6em1ie6v Offline is completely playable. Also if you read what I said you would know I’m not saying Helldivers 2 isn’t playable. Though at launch that’s a different story. Where even when the game did let you in you would run into many many matches not giving you xp or any progression.
@@user-vd6em1ie6v this game is playable. The entire game is playable the only issues it really has is the multiplayer. Also I never said Hell divers 2 wasn’t playable at all. Now on the first week It was somewhat playable if you could even get in. And even when you got in it was a roll of the dice if the game would give you any progression.
They were supposed to bring balance to the force not leave it in darkness
such a shame, will kick the wind out of its sails in a way it wont recover unlike how Helldivers did.
You can still play the game offline with bots, that’s how it’s supposed to be played anyways.
Played it with my buddy the hour it launched and almost immediately realized they fucked it up. By played it, I mean couldn't play it at all together.
My issue is that there are basically no options for bf1 on pc.
There is no way to host your own server?

Aspyr seemed to have rushed re-releasing this game and didn't quite finishing squashing the existing bugs before release.
They probably host these on AWS so they can spin up servers in very quickly
