Amazing video! I am so happy for you! I am wishing you so much success on your journey. I applied to 23 PhD Programs this fall. All were due by 12-1-2022, and I finished submitting last week. I am praying and very faithful for interviews.
Love this for you! I’m getting my MA first before applying to PhD programs. This was helpful! I have a 3.5 GPA too but I’m focusing on having volunteer work and teaching experience!
That’s a really smart choice! There’s only 2 of us in my cohort without a masters degree so I think it can be helpful. Good luck with your future applications!
This is so great! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I’m currently an MSc student in history in my 30s and I also wish I had more guidance especially during my undergrad years. Definitely would’ve loved to take the PhD route but it’s not too late! Will be tuning in to your videos for more inspo. 😊 All the best to you!
can i just say thank you so much for your youtube channel, i'm a black british student at oxford currently looking at brown for a humanities PhDs after undergrad, and your videos are the most useful and inspiring :))
Hi, thank you for posting this video. It is really informative! Honestly, I’m a little anxious about my GPA. I have a 3.3 in my bachelors and a 3.9 in masters. Although I have research experience, I would like some tips as to what I could do to offset my undergrad scores. Thanks a lot!
Your GPA is fine and shouldn't cause any issues. My general advice would be to write the best statement of purpose (SOP) you can, it's the very first thing most admission committees read before they even look at GPA or test scores. If you can get as many people to read it, preferably professors or current PhD students that helps a lot because they might catch things that you miss. The best SOP should explain why your chosen research topic is important and how the school can help facilitate it. Good luck and reach out if you have any more question!
@@Scholasticbabe Hi, I am from Nigeria. Just saw your videos. It's really encouraging. How can I contact you. I need guidance and help on applying. Was Brown university the only school you applied to. Thank you for your help and time
Hey, thank you for your vid. Please, could you make a video about affording phd college? I'm from Brazil and I'm considering applying for a PhD abroad, but I'm not sure whether it is possible or not. Thank you
Thanks for your comment! I can make a future video about grad school funding but usually programs in the US cover tuition and give you a stipend to live on so if you get into a program the finances are usually covered in some way.
You are so inspiring!! Thank you for this video, I'm beginning to apply (I'm currently in my masters and did not put much effort into my app for this) but am hoping to apply to PhDs this fall and am so overwhelmed by it all, your videos are extremely helpful ☺ Also: does anyone know if programs care more about your undergrad or masters GPA? I worked 3 jobs all of undergrad too so my masters one is a bit better lol
Thank you so much! I’m happy my videos help and to your question I think your most recent transcript is what committees focus on the most! I would also emphasize the skills you learn from working on your application because that’s valuable too even if it isn’t in the field you want to work in.
I didn’t! The only program I interviewed for was UPenn but most history programs don’t do interviews. It’s department specific though because other departments at Brown do
My program average is 5-6 years! And I would love to be a professor but I'm also passionate about media so I'm open to being a museum curator or tv/film consultant, whichever feels right in the moment.

Thank you!! And congrats on getting to the end of your applications. I’m rooting for you as you wait to hear back 🤍
I was planning to apply for 25, but only applied for 4. At the end of the application season, I want to apply to 10 programs. All the best.

Great video! Your attention to the process of finding the right school for you was awesome!
Thats so kind, thank you!
