One word to describe Enya's music: UNIQUE. She is ONE person on stage not 3 main singers, 35 back up singers and an orchestra. Another proof of how amazing this woman is!
Good art should not be looked at as "better" or "worse." I'd never heard the Celtic Woman do it; very impressive. It's a testament of such a wonderful song, that when competently done as a cover, it sounds just as wonderful as the original, though different. Though it often fails, I rejoice when I hear an excellent song re-done and it is just as good. I get to experience it anew all over again! Enjoy both! What a treat.
My compliments to Celtic Woman, including their chorus and orchestra. Very good job and a pleasure to hear and view. That said, I must point out that Enya does every bit of the vocals herself, and with rare exceptions, all of the musical instruments.
i don't judge videos but they rock, they all sound good, celtic woman they makes it a little bet easy for us to hear the lyrics, but other than that i think they are all perfect in in their own way. i love the two version on the song. thanks for posting it, and also celtic women keep what you guys are doing, you guys really inspired me, i was hoping when well they will come to USA i really want to see their live performance
Wow that was great. I have to agree that Enya is a little better. She also was in studio and the Celtic Women did it live. Different sound. I absolutly love the full orchestra. Love to hear tempo change dramatically with the orchestra. Taking nothing away from Enya she is a beautiful woman. But man these three women are just gorgeous. very classy production. would love to see them live.
i like the celtic women best... my tachers used to play this for me at nap time in kindergarten!!! yay, i love this song, it used to make me think of air planes!!
God Enya is so so stunning, there is something about her that is so enchanting! Its a natural beauty and its very refreshing. I have to say Enya wins hands down however i thoroughly enjoyed the celtic version too!! I feel very happy now, i love the song so much i feel proud that even all the crap that happens in this world, beautiful music can be made!
The title of the song refers to the London recording studio, Orinoco Studios (now Miloco Studios), in which it was recorded, rather than the Venezuelan river Orinoco. Citado de Wikipedia.
Watching video is one thing, however, I think all of us die hard enya fans would be impressed had we had the pleasure of a live rendition by Celtic Women and their ensemble....methinks the sounds would have washed over us, and done Enya's version quite proud. I like em both.
They are both great. I have the Enya CD and love it. Celtic Women have it nailed too. You can see that crafty grin on their faces as they just start to sing. It's a "We have this nailed grin" and they do! I have no favourite but there are more of them and less electronics, that counts for something. It is however Marie Brennans song to start with. There it is Both great. Alex
Twenty eight comments have been submitted at the point I am writing this. Collectively, they are the best I have ever read about a posting. As for which is best, it's like comparing fabulous and stupendous. I'd walk ten miles to hear either of them and the price would still be too cheap.
it took three of them with the help of a choir to sound half as good as Enya does when she sings it all herself. Kudos to them for tackling such a difficult piece but really not many can compare to Enya.
Equally beautiful.. the only difference is Enya did all her own harmonies and the girls are blending their own unique voices, but still both versions are absoutely lovely and I heard Libers too.. So now I love 3 of the same - but different...!!
I enjoy listening both versions: Enya's and Celtic Women's, but I myself always prefer the original version. Celtic Women's is an extraordinary interpretation though, but my favorite is my favorite.
This is very interesting to compare. In my opinion, Celtic Woman's version it is! (With all due respect to Enya's). I feel more entranced to Celtic's version. I bought Enya's CD before that I still listen in my car. Had I known about Celtic's before, I probably would have bought theirs instead. Further, I like the version (Celtic's) where the part "burn it up" (is that what it is?) was omitted. Thanks!
I love how Enya sang it, but my personal preference is Celtic Women's version. But I can't decided who sings it better - both versions are awesome and beautiful ^^
Both Enya and Celtic Woman bring something great to the same song. I like Enyas version for its presence, but I also like Celtic Womans version for its beautiful vocals.
I don't think Enya would ever do a live performance like Celtic Women, then again if she did it would be lipsyn. The orchestra in the Celtic Women version is fantastic but the originality award must finally go to Enya. Well done allround...
The depth in Celtic Women's version is given by the orchestra... deffinetely not by these women's voices. Enya's put her heart into her version of the song and therefore gave it a soul. I don't say that Celtic Women are bad. But music is not only about artism... but also about heart!!!
I think that it's a tribute to the brilliance of the song that it can be sung so well by another group - Enya really is a remarkably skilled composer. Personally, I think that the orchestral arrangement in the Celtic Woman track is more effective for the song - but I love Enya's version just as much because it is unique. Some people hate cover versions, but when the song is as versatile as Orinoco Flow and it sounds amazing either way, these covers should be encouraged.
I have to say I'm a big fan of both. If I had to choose I think I would say Celtic Women. The fact because they produce more of the song there is more to it. More power, emotion, and above all more in tune voice. It was also live. I'm a big fan of live.
Without a live performance from Enya to compare to the Celtic Women's it is hard to truely say who performs the song better, but there is much to say about Enya as a great songwriter. Hopefully she will continue for many years to come.
ok, me again - being fickle - I don't know both are very good! I don't know how Celtic's would sound though if recorded like Enya's and not in concert mode. This is like comparing red apple vs. granny apple and I do like both! So, I'll just go listen to either from time-to-time. Both are just fantabulous! How's that. Thanks!
Wow! If you heard Celtic Women on your PC than you need to upgrade your audio card!!! I personally like both versions of the song. This is what makes music great, the ability to take one song and make it your own. Why would anyone want to sound just like the original.
It's true that Celtic Woman sang it live with all the instruments playing live and all that... but they're 3 woman singing, 3 beautiful voices indeed... but Enya is singing on her own, and in my view her voice is way the most beautiful. In the other hand, the song brings us a whole spirit within it, wich can't be copied ever.
Well, you have to consider that Celtic Woman did their performance live, and Enya's is a recording. I love them both, but unless both made a recording or did it live, I can't really decide. I LOVE THEM BOTH!!! XD
So what's the verdict so far? Anyone has the time to tally up the score? I like Celtic Woman's version cos I can listen many times and still don't get bored.
I like the Celtic Woman's version better... The instruments are much more emotional and I love how their voices blend together. Enya's version is great too, but I think I like Celtic Woman's deeper.
both are awesome. enya's has a damn lot of digital layering while CW is just pure voice, so its really hard to judge which is "better." i personally like CW more though :D
Enya is a master of her craft and to put this together in the first place is simply astounding, but for all that Enya could not sing this in public, to the best of my knowledge she has never done a live tour! ...So performace wise and for sheer voice talent Celtic Woman are better they nail this song, it sounds better and more natural than the original . Of course that's just my opinion for what it's worth :-)
it took more than one singer in the enya version. I like the celtic woman version better as the words are clearer, and the passion of the orchestra shines through.
Here is something I tried, I knonw it is kind of tough to decide which is better; but with the Enya version I had to close my eyes and listen to the way she enunciates each verse. with Celtic women I had to open them and swing my head at the rythm they sing it. I cannot say one is better than the other, each version is special in its own way.
I love Enya's version of course, after all it's the original one. But she has the advantage of having all the studio controlled conditions. Performing live is an altogether different challenge, and here the Celtic angels perform superbly. So I wouldn't classify any version as "better", both are enjoyable in my opinion.
I like Celtic Woman's introduction, and Enya's chorus. Celtic Woman's is clearer. The huge choir in Celtic woman seem to drown out the dreamy... thing that Enya's has going :D But both versions are amazing
I like them both it is very hard to choose which is better. I will choose Celtic Woman. They are builing the song with their voices and not using voice layering. Eyna sounds so rich because she records all the parts herself then layers them and it sounds amazing but I like the fact I can pick out each part that is sung in Celtic Woman. I would like to hear what all five of Celtic Woman would sound like I think the soud would be that much richer.
Well both have such angelic voices, though if I had my choice, I would say Celtic Woman, ONLY because of their harmony, their pitch, and above all, their heart that goes into the song when they sing it. As for Enya, she herself over the years has grown. Enya is an unbelievable artist nonetheless, I just like Celtic Woman's version a bit better. :)
This is an amazing song, and now that I've officially annoyed the rest of the dorm by playing it over and over, I have to say that I like the Celtic Woman version just a little bit more.
That was kinda hard... I like'd Enya's "sail away sail away sail away" part better, but I liked the "Dum dada dum dada" part better for Celtic Woman. Both very talented individuals.
Not really comparing apples with apples? I first heard Enya's version on the car radio one evening in May 1989 - I had to pull over and stop to listen to the end - it was the most hauntingly beautiful thing I've ever heard. It's hardly fair to compare that full-blown studio production with what appears to be a live performance by Celtic Woman - but they, with their orchestra and choir, give a superb rendition. I wish I'd been in the audience. The real credit should go to the composer?
Celtic Woman is clearly good, but considering they had all that instrumentation and backing vocals and all Enya has is her killer awesome voice and drop dead good looks, I guess I will pick Enya as the better of the two :)
i like both versions because they bring different qualities to the song. Enya does it her way, and, as a good cover should be, the one by the CW is made their own. it's obviously the same song, but they make it their own. they're both amazing. i dont think it's fair to say one is better over the other...
Enya's sound is just so magic... no words can describe, just feelings... :)
One word to describe Enya's music: UNIQUE.
She is ONE person on stage not 3 main singers, 35 back up singers and an orchestra. Another proof of how amazing this woman is!
I love them all, Enya and Celtic Woman, and their beautiful Celtic voices and hearts! God Bless the Irish!
I used you listen to Enya's version all the time but then I heard this one and absolutely fell in love with it!!
Celtic Woman ALL THE WAY!!!!
I had the pleasure of watching Celtic Woman perform this live. They are just great. In my humble opinion so is Enya.
I love both Enya's AND Celtic Woman's versions! BOTH are awesome!
Good art should not be looked at as "better" or "worse." I'd never heard the Celtic Woman do it; very impressive. It's a testament of such a wonderful song, that when competently done as a cover, it sounds just as wonderful as the original, though different. I think both are really good - they both have an adventurous feel to them, which is what I like the best ^^ I really like the drums.
Both are equally excellent!
woooooooooooooooooo all beautiful :) cant choose
Aw I love it Both are awesome I give em both a 10!
i like the celtic women best... my tachers used to play this for me at nap time in kindergarten!!! yay, i love this song, it used to make me think of air planes!!
God Enya is so so stunning, there is something about her that is so enchanting! Its a natural beauty and its very refreshing. I feel very happy now, i love the song so much i feel proud that even all the crap that happens in this world, beautiful music can be made!
Both songs are GREAT.
A recording of Enya and a live performance by Celtic women both have different energies. We need both.
Celtic Woman- And their voices are anything but "feeble" I have seen them in concert. Chloe joined them in this song and they were incredible!
Celtic women definatly own this song. I heard them sing this in concert. Hands down, it's them.
They both sound Great
You make it MIGHTY tough on a fella! I'd give the nod to Enya for the video, Celtic Woman for the music. Both are so good it's hard to choose!
TF1
Both of these versions were wonderful, but I'd give it to Celtic Woman. Great job ladies.
Celtic women, hands down have it! They are gorgeous too!
Alex
celtic woman, no rebuttal will suffice, their voices are enchanting, the music in enthralling, and they are freakin hott
Twenty eight comments have been submitted at the point I am writing this. Collectively, they are the best I have ever read about a posting. As for which is best, it's like comparing fabulous and stupendous. I'd walk ten miles to hear either of them and the price would still be too cheap.

Kudos to them for tackling such a difficult piece but really not many can compare to Enya.
No dought! The Celtic Woman are like... angels... they sing perfectly...
Both, it shows in the Enya clip how it was, Enya rarely performed live, Celtic Woman is awesome too, loveee them
I like Enya so much!
This Celtic Woman - she reminds me of Helmut Lotti. Every song she touches...turns to mainstream.

Further, I like the version (Celtic's) where the part "burn it up" (is that what it is?) was omitted. Thanks!
The ascending slide in Celtic Womans' version takes the cake.
Both are stunningly amazing, but if I were to choose which one to listen to on repeat for a set amount of time, I'd choose Celtic Woman's version.
I love how Enya sang it, but my personal preference is Celtic Women's version. But I can't decided who sings it better - both versions are awesome and beautiful ^^
I give Enya Honors for bringing this experience to life but Celtic Women perfected it!
Both Enya and Celtic Woman bring something great to the same song. I like Enyas version for its presence, but I also like Celtic Womans version for its beautiful vocals.
I love both versions Celtic Woman: I love their voices Enya: I love the music and atmosphere

Enya's put her heart into her version of the song and therefore gave it a soul.
I don't say that Celtic Women are bad. But music is not only about artism... but also about heart!!!
Celtic Woman give it more of a magical celtic feel, my vote is for the girls!
I think that it's a tribute to the brilliance of the song that it can be sung so well by another group - Enya really is a remarkably skilled composer.
Personally, I think that the orchestral arrangement in the Celtic Woman track is more effective for the song - but I love Enya's version just as much because it is unique.

Enya is... indescribable!
I love both versions!! But I was a fan of Enya first and fell in love with the original. though th CW version is amazing I vote ENYA!!!!!
Gosh. I have to agree...but they are both very nice:)
Wow! If you heard Celtic Women on your PC than you need to upgrade your audio card!!! I personally like both versions of the song. This is what makes music great, the ability to take one song and make it your own. Why would anyone want to sound just like the original.
I really like the Celtic Woman version. Enya's fantastic, but I like the liveliness of Celtic Woman. It's just so fun!
I prefer Celtic Woman's version, but I didn't even know there was an Enya one xD
They all have beautiful voices, though. =)
It's true that Celtic Woman sang it live with all the instruments playing live and all that... but they're 3 woman singing, 3 beautiful voices indeed... but Enya is singing on her own, and in my view her voice is way the most beautiful. The Celtic Woman are the most amazing singers in the whole universe
Celtic Woman♣ souu do BRASIL!:x
im so use to listening to enya's version, so i love her version better
astonishingly beauty she!
Isn't it a bit like comparing green apples and red apples? They both are equally tasty in their distinction, in my opinion:-)
Terrific Video; thanks!
Enya simplemente la mejor.
ENYA of course HANDS DOWN!!!!
Celtic Woman sang it wonderfully as well.
Enya has that powerful voice vs the 3 ladies.
I like the Celtic Woman's version better... The instruments are much more emotional and I love how their voices blend together. Enya's version is great too, but I think I like Celtic Woman's deeper.
both are awesome. enya's has a damn lot of digital layering while CW is just pure voice, so its really hard to judge which is "better."

Of course that's just my opinion for what it's worth :-)
The original will always, always remain the best; and Enya is the best in her style. But this version is not bad, they sing very well.
Both groups sung it very well, however, Enya was the one who made the actual song (as oh1life2live stated). So props to both of them!
it took more than one singer in the enya version. I like the celtic woman version better as the words are clearer, and the passion of the orchestra shines through.
Enya is in a very small & select singers who you could listen to all day - every day.
I liked both, but they are really different styles, so I guess it's a tie!
I love Enya's version of course, after all it's the original one. But she has the advantage of having all the studio controlled conditions. Performing live is an altogether different challenge, and here the Celtic angels perform superbly. So I wouldn't classify any version as "better", both are enjoyable in my opinion.
the instrumental on the second one is really impressive ... though Enya knows it all...
Enya gets my vote! Celtic Woman do a pretty good cover of 'Orinoco Flow' but, in my opinion, Enya's original version is far better.
The version of Enya is the best!! but Celtic Women did a great job aswell!!
I like Celtic Woman's introduction, and Enya's chorus. Celtic Woman's is clearer.
The huge choir in Celtic woman seem to drown out the dreamy... thing that Enya's has going :D
But both versions are amazing
I like them both it is very hard to choose which is better. I will choose Celtic Woman. They are builing the song with their voices and not using voice layering. As for Enya, she herself over the years has grown. Enya is an unbelievable artist nonetheless, I just like Celtic Woman's version a bit better. :)
Enya = Music of the Ainur. The Celtic Woman are epic in their own right.
This is an amazing song, and now that I've officially annoyed the rest of the dorm by playing it over and over, I have to say that I like the Celtic Woman version just a little bit more.
I like Celtic womans version better. The voice parts what make it beautiful
That was kinda hard... I like'd Enya's "sail away sail away sail away" part better, but I liked the "Dum dada dum dada" part better for Celtic Woman. Both very talented individuals.
enya is incredibly powerful i agree, and i think wins this comparison
Enya by the proverbial mile.
She is better than all 3 of those young beauties & the choir put together!

Celtic Woman is clearly good, but considering they had all that instrumentation and backing vocals and all Enya has is her killer awesome voice and drop dead good looks, I guess I will pick Enya as the better of the two :)
All original versions are the best ever with a very few exceptions (With a Little Help from My Friends)
celtic woman so won against the original varsion........ u rock celtic woman!!!
i like both versions because they bring different qualities to the song. Enya does it her way, and, as a good cover should be, the one by the CW is made their own. it's obviously the same song, but they make it their own. they're both amazing. i dont think it's fair to say one is better over the other...
There is no competition... Enya is the best
Her voice is always real!
Celtic Woman is the best, hands down
Amen.
I like the celtic woman's better by far... Going to go see them on the 20th of february 2008
just how they did the video it was big in the late 80's and early 90's
