While it’s a way of thinking of a sizeable minority in U.K., it is the same in any country. Frexit and Nexit were much more likely than Brexit had ever been numerically (before Brexit happened, of course). And hey, Germany, the EU greatest power, had to learn some lesson in the 20th century alongside Austria, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Hungary (who, it seems, has to do the same school year once again). I said in 2016 that people were voting for a ‘blank cheque Brexit’ and the only plan people voted for was a 5 word slogan: ‘Vote Leave Take Back Control’. The reasons the Brexiteers had no plan were that: 1) all the Brexiteers would end up fighting over it, division would be evident and they would have lost the referendum; 2) had there been a plan, then this would have set a standard for delivery and laid out objectives and opportunities which they could be held to; 3) it left it wide open as to what Brexit was and what the true intent was. Where was Henry Bolton’s plan? Where is it now? What opportunities?
Ironically the Government of Ireland had a brexit plan - preparations for which commenced in 2014 once it became apparent that there could be a referendum. It meant that the Government of Ireland was ready to hit the ground running on the morning of 24 June 2016 while officials in Number 10 were running around like headless chickens wondering how they were going to get the shite back into the horse.
First of all Peter Mandelson has been signed up to be Britain's new ambassador to the US, not to manacle us to a comprehensive US trade deal. Secondly, such a trade deal would be in conflict with the contents of the Labour manifesto about maintaining standards. If we can stop a tariff war between ourselves and the US, this will be worthwhile. I know that Starmer has talked about his red lines but ultimately he has to grow the economy or face failure at the ballot box, ergo...he will have to try to negotiate a better relationship with the EU and preferably to try to get back into the fold. He has no choice!
Oh right, as long as it's in the Labour manifesto I'm now reassured, it's a cast iron guarantee! You even say he is going to feel obliged to do whatever he can to improve the economy - if he thinks that bowing to US trade demands will help (or, perhaps more importantly, convince enough of the public that it is good for us) then why won't he do that?

The government of the country 'living next door' with a land border with the UK did have a brexit plan - preparations for which commenced in 2014 once it became apparent that there could be a referendum. It meant that the Government of Ireland was ready to hit the ground running on the morning of 24 June 2016 while officials in Number 10 were running around like headless chickens wondering how they were going to get the shite back into the horse.
@genghisthegreat2034 "Imagine living next door to a country that behaves like this, and that had no idea it had a land border with the EU"? Thankfully, the Irish government, after long years of dealing with 'Perfidious Albion', understood exactly how things would develop, and commenced preparations for Brixit FOUR years before Cameron even announced the referendum date. By 2014, TWO YEARS before the referendum, all the stakeholders in Ireland were working to an 80 page document which essentially listed every possible variant of Brixit and the appropriate Irish response to every one of them. The Department of Foreign Affairs had briefing papers prepared for every scenario, and was able to launch a diplomatic blitzkrieg across the EU when the result of the referendum was announced, ensuring that EVERY ONE of our EU partners understood the Irish 'Red Lines'. The Irish government, at European Council level, made sure that every one of those 'Red Lines' was written into Michel Barnier's negotiating mandate while the UK was still blathering about when to invoke Article 50. When it came to Brixit, Ireland was, as we say here, "Way ahead of you, boyo!"
Not only economically, but also socially, the UK is increasingly distant from the EU. For example, hundreds of thousands of EU pupils went on school trips to the UK from the European mainland every year. Now, schools no longer choose London, but Berlin or Rome. The reason is the passport requirement for the UK. In the past, only an EU ID card was sufficient. But not all teenagers in the EU have a passport and schools do not want to burden children with extra costs. In my life, I have been on school trips to the UK twice and have made British friends there who I am still in touch with. But in the future, young people from the UK and the EU will meet each other less often.
Yep, i second that - and "BREXit" also killed the very successful twin city partnerships - all gone --- more then 90 collaborations - went over the cliff.
I agree. I never took advantage of the great freedom to easily travel around Europe when I was younger (I've had problems with depression etc. since early teens, otherwise I think I would have done) but I've always thought it's a great idea for all EU people to be able to explore and spend time living and working in foreign countries without a load of red tape and extra expense. Now that freedom has been lost, another negative of Brexit. Everyone's life made a little bit smaller and less free, the benefits to international cooperation and business taking a small hit too because many helpful connections can be made by people getting to know foreigners. All we hear from the Brexit brigade are vague rants about sovereignty (I had no confidence in the Tories delivering anything worthwhile, and there were a lot of good EU policies that were thrown on the bonfire that we can only HOPE, probably in vain, will be replaced with something as good as or better) and moaning about unspecified opportunities (realistically, no opportunity to do anything better than if we'd stayed in, in my view).
That guy also suffers from "British Empire Syndrome". He does not realize how big the EU is, compared to the UK. Off course, if you don't wanna cooperate with the EU, you will just have to obey, it is that simple. The UK is too small to navigate the world alone. You need friends. EDIT: Romania and Bulgaria have joined Schengen. I have just seen that it is estimated, it will boost both GDP's with 1%. Take that Brexiteers.

I said in 2016 that people were voting for a ‘blank cheque Brexit’ and the only plan people voted for was a 5 word slogan: ‘Vote Leave Take Back Control’.
The reasons the Brexiteers had no plan were that:
1) all the Brexiteers would end up fighting over it, division would be evident and they would have lost the referendum;
2) had there been a plan, then this would have set a standard for delivery and laid out objectives and opportunities which they could be held to;
3) it left it wide open as to what Brexit was and what the true intent was.
"Nobody had a plan." fumes Notlob . And nor, apparently, does he.

@genghisthegreat2034
"Imagine living next door to a country that behaves like this, and that had no idea it had a land border with the EU"?
