Great video. I ran my first marathon in 2:47 in Columbus. Great race, but brutal recovery. I’m thinking to take a year trying to just get faster in 2025 in shorter stuff and try and go for an OTQ standard in 2026. Just gotta be patient and consistent with it. Hardest part was getting the miles in healthily. Got up to 70 miles this last build and felt strongest in the 60’s. Thinking to do around 65 and do more cross training early in the year like cycling to avoid an injury in 2025 and just do some faster paced speed work.
Outstanding job HRW! 2:47 is no joke!I think you got a good plan set in place for 2025. Looking forward to hearing about your upcoming new PR. Thanks for your support HRR. 2:47 is an elite time in my opinion. VERY few runners ever run THAT fast. You definitely can get that OTQ standard time by 2026. Remember, prior to running 2:19 I was a 2:43 marathoner so it CAN be done.
I did my first marathon four and a half years ago virtually during covid and ran 3:51. Last year I ran the St. Louis Marathon and ran 3:10 finishing 1st in my age group (40-44). My goal now is to run sub 3! Thanks for all your videos and content, keep it up!!
Superior work dropping from 3:51 all the way down to 3:10 and to do that in the 40-44 age group is no joke. Awesome job BC!!! You are without a doubt going under 3 hours in due time. I know it won't be easy but you have clearly proved you are capable of it.
I found the hardest part of marathon training to be those seasons where your A race approaches and it becomes clear, or at least seems uncertain, that you'll be able to hit your goal. I found that if I was having a good season, or if my goal was at least in the ball park, my mind would be in the right place and I would usually exceed the goal. But whenever it started to seem like the goal was out of reach, given the amount of time left to the race, it was always a mental battle, every day. Because what do you do? You can lower the goal, but then, deep down you feel as if you've already defeated yourself. So you're left feeling unmotivated. You can keep shooting for the goal all the way to the end, but if you believe in the back of your mind that it's out of reach, you probably still won't be motivated, because you'll feel like you're lying to yourself, and you won't push for it as hard out of fear of wasted effort. What's funny is, the best season I ever had, was one where I pushed through such a scenario, and it all seemed unlikely right up until race day, and then I exceeded my goal. I didn't realize just how fatigued I really was during training, and after shedding that fatigue with a really good tapper, my performance skyrocketed in a way that I didn't expect.
I 100% agree Rylan...appreciate you sharing and have felt like this many times myself over the years. Keep up the great work out there brother....big PRs coming your way
Awesome story on our first marathon. Also thank you for the advise on the timeline to really train for a marathon. Still have not ran a marathon yet but still on my wish list. Still consistent with running but cut mileage way back. Going to need a huge run up before I really jump into the meat of a training plan.
Hardest part for me is running at low mileage early in the build up. For some reason I get more injuries and soreness when only at 30-40 mpw. Once I hit 50 plus I feel better and pain free. I started doing my easy runs even easier because maybe psychologically I'm wanting to run faster since I'm at lower mileage. Other than that I can't get it to make sense.
Great to hear a bit more detail about your running history 😃 and that forces charity run, wow the plaza hotel for a week !! My biggest weakness in the marathon is my cramp devil 😂 and current PR is Manchester UK 2023, though I beat that in training a couple months back.
Yeah it was a great experience, my room was insane and had marble floors lol Hang in there brother, you are doing awesome. Looking forward to hearing about your sub 3 coming up.
Ran my 1st marathon 4 weeks ago. Hardest for me is practicing fuel and hydration. I easily get full and get stitches + it's heavy to carry during practice.
It definitely can be complicated especially when you are racing all out and still trying to calculate the proper amounts while staying relaxed. Keep up the great work out there man. I know you have some massive PRs coming your way
Something I’m struggling with is when to take a day off from some sort of pain. I think we all can handle the pain, lace up the shoes, and push through it. But maybe sometimes a knee hurts or a foot or something and it might be better to get that day of rest/recovery/ice etc. Its hard to navigate am I making an excuse today or is this really the right move today. how do you think about this
Taking time off especially when we are so used to putting in the work is very hard to do. Thanks for sharing John. Yes, never try to train on an injury that continues to get worse..best to be smart and take a few weeks of then to worsen an injury that will take you out for months.
Thanks for the clear message coach. Appreciate it.. For me, the difficult part is to maintain the weekly plan when it's cold, dark and snowy in winter time.. I haven't tried the treadmill running.. I know I should try the treadmill, instead of giving up on running during such days.. Do you have anything to add? Thanks ahead! 😊
Now THAT is certainly difficult and have been there SEVERAL times over the years. No shame in training on the treadmill at times. The worlds top runners do so why can't you, sometimes it is a wise move to do so. Thanks for your support.
I’m breaking 4 hours this year, stupidly I tripped just after midnight getting a 5K in, hurt my arm really bad so I’m taking a few days off. I listen to your insight coach.
@@rundreamachieve I believe in it coach, but as you know 42 Km is full of variables, but I know the course very well and will be training on it over the winter, race is 5 April
NYC ?? The Plaza Hotel for a week ?? Run the NYC Marathon???? It's like winning the Lotto for me you know ? Hahahahaha great experience !! 😅 Congratulations!! And thanks for sharing

Excellent video coach. I ran my first marathon in Manchester and PRd in Chester. I am going to PR in Manchester this year thanks to a long build up.
Keep up the awesome work and me posted on your progress in 2025.
Hardest part is the dedication. First marathon 4:19, and PR is 4:09.38 in Chicago.
Spot on Thomas and I hear ya man. Awesome work getting that 4:09 in Chicago and dropping 10 minutes off your old best. Keep up the great work.

Smart move Patrick. Yes, some runners have issues running lower volume when they are so used to higher levels of mileage. Keep up the great work

Coach Nate…I will binge watch your videos just to hear the first 20seconds…please let us know what song us in the intro
Thanks for your support Mista 24-7-25. The name of the song is Statement by a group called NEFEX.
