  • Floyd Mayweather: TBE?
Floyd "Money" Mayweather [50-0, 27 KOs] claimed that he is TBE, short for The Best Ever. “He [Muhammad Ali] called himself The Greatest and I call myself TBE [The Best Ever]. I’m pretty sure I’ll get criticized for what I said, but I couldn’t care less. I couldn’t care less about the backlash."
Mayweather has won world titles in 5 different weight classes. Winning 26 out of 26 world title fights. The likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton, Canelo Alvarez, Diego Corrales and Manny Pacquiao to name but a few.
After beating Oscar de la Hoya "Money May" became the Pay Per View king holding the record for PPV buys of all time. During 2005-2017 Mayweather was involved in many big events selling a total of 28,867,000 PPV buys.
Floyd Mayweather v Canelo Álvarez - 2.2 million PPV buys
Oscar de la Hoya v Floyd Mayweather - 2.4 million PPV buys
Floyd Mayweather v Manny Pacquiao - 4.6 million PPV buys
Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor - 6.7 million PPV buys
    Source: bit.ly/31QBmrp
That said Floyd Mayweather is criticized for not taking all comers. He fought Arturo Gatti in June of 2005 at 140 lbs. Although Mayweather said he fought the best he failed to fight 140 lbs' best fighters at the time: Kostya Tszyu and Miguel Cotto

He even said and stated to that he chooses certain opponents to fight for an opportunity only to get a good pay, he chooses that over Legacy.
The funniest thing tho about Floyd waiting till fighters past their prime is that Some of the few fighters that he fought Hes actually older then them but for Canelo, He was only 23 when Floyd fought him and Floyd was 36. You and I both know Floyd was pouncing on Gatti calling him ‘C’ Level and a paper champ because he was known for his trash talk bravado. I think Floyd paid for Gatti’s funeral expenses and paid his respects after the fact. There’s no need to continue to trash talk on someone you’ve already beaten, what’s done is done and that’s how Floyd approached it.
Kostya Tszyu fight definitely should have happened no doubt, there’s no excuses for that one but Floyd did fight Hatton who was undefeated, there was no blueprint on Hatton and he knocked him out, the guy who beat Tszyu. If you’re implying he ducked Tszyu then I don’t get your case, because he should have ducked Hatton then who obviously was a tougher challenge at that time and Floyd did announce retirement after the De La Hoya bout. He could have easily said I’m retired and I’m not fighting Hatton but he did anyway.
Cotto situation was on Bob Arum, Arum wasn’t giving Mayweather the fights he deemed were best for him, and that INCLUDES the Cotto fight at the time. Arum was stopping Floyd from getting the major money fights, as you can recall he was calling out Mosley and Oscar at 147 but he didn’t fight Oscar till they both left Top Rank. Arum said Cotto was too green for Floyd, you gotta do your research on these things man.
Insinuating that he priced himself out on the Winky Wright fight might be fair AT THE TIME, but clearly he did not because Floyd became the biggest PPV star EVER. Arum looked like a fool not getting the 50/50 split for Floyd, let’s be honest with ourselves because this is the truth, Arum held Floyd back. After he left Arum he became a megastar and that’s a fact.
Argument on the Margarito fight is simply he didn’t want to negotiate with Arum, let’s be real Floyd would have beat the brakes off Margarito, and I firmly believe Margarito DID cheat against Cotto and he obviously TRIED against Mosley. To put plaster in your wraps in order to gain the upper hand on someone in a fight where you put your life on the line is disgusting, and definitely showed weakness on Margarito’s behalf by doing that weak shit.

Boxrec failed to count I believe over 60 of Pacman hits, yet over counted Floyd's by a wide margin. 0 doubt, Manny won that fight. That same video also shows every broadcast of the fight around the world, and as the fight was finishing, every country was stating how Floyd lost, and Pacman won. Everyone was shocked, and laughing "which fight were the judges watching"? Its clear as day the judges screwed that one up big time.

Here's the issue with boxing fans who don't' fully grasped the fact that boxing is also very political, what you see is not always what you get from both sides not just Floyd. I respect your documentary because it came of as an impartial breakdown but you conveniently left out a few things that nullify your argument. First let's acknowledge that boxing is unfortunately political. You don't know what Bob Arum was thinking at the time. Its not black and white to say oh well Floyd and Cotto were at Top Rank therefore its super easy make the fight now its all up to Floyd... No it was not all up to Floyd it was up to Bob Arum.... Floyd only had control after he left Top Rank and even then it was only if the other party were willing to fight. Floyd called out De la hoya, Mosley, Kotsa Tzu and they all said no except De La hoya later down the line. Bob never let Cotto Face Mayweather and it was only after Cotto got out of Top Rank that he was able to make the fights he wanted as well and the mayweather fight was made. Same thing with Manny, Bob kept Manny from fighting Floyd and I believe that Manny wanted Floyd just as bad as Floyd wanted Manny back in 2010 but Arum was always in the way...As soon as Manny left Bob ...BOOM the fight was made. Also you conveniently left out the fact that Floyd fought Carlos Baldomir immediately after he fought Zab who Kenny was critizizing him for and out boxed him handedly ...I find it a little decieving that you did'nt even play the video highlight or mention that he fought him. Kenny then critizied floyd for not fighting hatton and then floyd fought hattan right after de la hoya. Also Gatti was a PPV attraction and that was a road you needed to take to become a PPV star (Remember boxing is political also a prize fighting business where you need to find ways to increase your public profile).... just like what De La Hoya did. Once again i respect the research but I feel that without the context of boxing politics (On both sides as well as promoters) its a misleading argument. For example why isn't the question why did cotto not face Mayweather why is it under the assumption that Floyd was the one who didn't want the fight... none of them had power at the time only Bob Arum did

Optimum weight was one of the caveats which is truth. Weight draining has a detrimental effect on a fighter. Just like when Floyd chose to pay the penalty for refusing to make the contract weight of 144 lbs against Marquez who was older and jumping up 2 weight classes. Floyd instead fought at 146 lbs and didn’t even bother to make weight and still didn’t knock out and older, smaller Marquez. Canelo should have done the same unprofessional tactic and came in 154 lbs in their fight instead of being a professional and honoring the catch weight contract of 152 lbs. I believe the weight drain had more to do with Canelo’s loss than inexperience.

He is the #1 business man in boxing. I understand a win is a win don’t get me wrong. But once he realized that PPV loved him and Vegas loved him. It was all marketing from there. You can take a good fighter and promote him to make him look like he stands a chance. But let’s be real here. He refused to go to war. His whole thing was hit and don’t get hit. He waited and waited for many not all but many of the big name fighters to age out of their prime. And then promote the hell out of them to sell tickets and PPV sales.
His defense was amazing I will not take away his technical ability. However it was never really put to the test. And everyone wanted a piece of him. That’s how he was able to pick. Because there was no shortage of fighters who wanted to fight him. He knew which ones to pick and when.
#1 business man. Yeah I’ll say that.

This guy is gonna be the same guy who makes the “Why Michael Jordan ISNT THE BEST” or “Why Tom Brady ISNT THE BEST” videos in the future.
Theres always gonna be someone who does X better then Y. There will always be someone who has more this, then the other person has that. The arguements will never end due to this.
At the end of the day, the people who get all the glory, are the guys who have the records to prove it. Also, part of what makes a GOAT, is the times, and the situations they have been put it. Its about how they transend the sport, and bring it more life, more fans, and more respect.
Put Tom Brady against Joe Namith, Lebron against Jordan, Tiger against Palmer, etc. When its all said & done, the people conisdered the greatest, are the ones who made the average person look and say “Wow, that guy is amazing!” that guy that deserves the GOAT title. Each generation will have their own GOAT, but if there can only be one....records are the only thing that will stand the test of time...
There may be a day when some kid looks back and says “Hey dad, the 1972 Dolphins were the only undefeated team to win it all! That means there the best; RIGHT?”
And the father will chuckle and say “Oh son, when the hell are you ever gonna learn TO CLEAN YOUR GODDAMN ROOM YOU SACK OF SHIT!!!”
    Ahhhh.... That’ll be the day.

Floyd’s had nothing but a bunch of boring ass fights with the wrong people at the wrong times, and everyone who followed his career for a long time knew it. He never had an exciting fight. Sure, he looked slick and his defense was great, but that can be said about a lot of fighter.
