In Lockhart - the BBQ Capital of Texas - an undeniable treasure stakes its claim on history. Black's Barbecue is the oldest Texas BBQ joint owned and operated by the same family.
Essentially, they've been doing things the same way here since 1932. It's that consistency that keeps people coming from all over the world to make their BBQ pilgrimage to one of the iconic shrines of Texas meat. To walk into Black's is to step back in time and into BBQ bliss with one of the friendliest families you could ever meet.
Through this documentary film, you hear directly from the three generations of Black's currently running this one-of-a-kind BBQ house. They speak to how an earlier generation began it and how future generations will carry the torch. They show you why there's no substitute for tradition and slow cooking over Post Oak wood. For those moments you can't be there in-person, this film takes you back to Black's Barbecue.
I am from California and came to Texas to visit my in-laws. I wanted authentic barbeque and I got it. "Blacks Barbeque" was 2 hours away from where they live but, it was well worth the drive. Thank you to my in-laws for a great treat! Thumbs up "Blacks Barbeque" . :)
Great BBQ and the old country music that plays in the background just makes it one the best experiences!
The blessed thing we have in rural Kentucky is raising cattle, black Angus & hereford breeds is we can cut the brisket you can't get at the the grocer like packer brisket with the tops & the points for burnt ends, etc...
Best brisket I've ever had in my entire life!!!!!
I grew up eating Eastern and Lexington styles of barbecue in North Carolina and still enjoy them very much but Texas BBQ is the best!
I'm from Kentucky, 56 yrs. old, & i have watched videos of what seems to be the main 3 places here, black's, kreuz, & smitty's & i'd say i'd like black's the best( i posted the same comment on the other 2 places) , but i'd have to taste all 3 cause that is what counts. Plus the assortment of sides ( not sauce) & i'm irish, meat, taters, veggies, in other words vittles. I'm retired, my wife retires in less than 2 years & i hope to make it to lockhart to try the bbq. God bless everyone.
Every trip I make to the Texas Gulf area, a trip to Blacks is on the agenda. Best damn BBQ in the world.
We're from California and stopped by on our way from Houston to Austin. IMHO compared to Salt Lick, Rudy's , Terry Black's...Black'sin Lockhart is the best. Their ribs and brisket have a deep rich smoky flavor. We will come back at some point in the future.
Lockhart is a must-stop for anyone traveling through Texas. Lockhart has three of the best BBQ places in the nation, all within a couple of miles of each other: Black's, Smitty's, and Kreuz. All are awesome!
My favorite since 1988.
Enjoyed it today for lunch! Still the best in Texas - hands down!
I remember a food show, and edgar black said people were always asking him what he put in his sausage that made it taste so good, and edgar said , its what we do not put in it that makes it taste so good.sometimes simple is best, but it leaves no room for error, and blacks is doing it right
It was on travel channel food paradise bbq paradise in 2008 when the show got to Texas, they highlighted schmittys, kreuz and blacks bbq.
@@bobafettfan32. Yes I watched that too! Great show
@@bobafettfan32its on my bucket list to get to lockhart as i had that show saved for years on my DVR
This place looks amazing. A true time machine when you walk in the doors.
"A lot of people from Australia" Yep, we're bloody everywhere haha.
I like your accent
Hell yeah!
EVERY trip we've ever taken we meet people from Australia! Aussie Aussie Aussie
Aussie here and I was in Texas in 2014. Love all things Texas, especially the hospitality and BBQ!
That is amazing ! Must watch it again, yummy!
Blacks brisket is the best I have ever had. I dream about it sometimes!!
Once you go Black's, you can't go back. Best BBQ place ever!!!
I ate there once on a trip thru. Loved it!
One of my all-time favorites for barbecue. Can't wait to try out your Guadalupe (Austin) location my next time down there.
that looks amazing
We tried to make the pilgrimage to Lockhart from Dallas (flew in for Cowboys game from NYC) on Thanksgiving Eve. But the traffic was so bad, that we had to settle for Austin. Thankfully Black's offers mail order service, which was surprisingly really good. Only wish they still offered free shipping on orders over $150.
looks great
I will make the drive someday
nice video, very informative. just wondering if blacks bbq has any relationship with terry blacks bbq?
In the national news today, the US Wage and Hour Division of the US Department of Labor released a statement that Black's BBQ Inc. chain has been keeping the tips for their managers and withholding the money from the employees. Investigators found that Black's BBQ owed $230,000 to employees. They also found they weren't paying employees for their labor before and after their scheduled shifts. Kent Black said it was an "honest mistake" because of rule change in the laws. The law regarding that companies can't take employee tips has been around for many decades. What a liar.
Good looking Que!
I dream about the brisket! Best in Texas, maybe the world...
Ate there about 4 years ago... and i want to go back sometime. I ate one beef rib and it was sooooo big (and good) !
I aid $27 for one rib.
You'll only need one beef rib per adult, trust me.
Yum.
Their sausage and brisket is the bomb. The ribs I thought were just ok.But the do have a lot of great sides.
I wasn't a fan of beef ribs until I had some at Blacks BBQ
Here in Kentucky we bbq with hickory as is plentiful on family property so it's free wood if you just do the work such as cutting ,splitting, etc...don't care for mesquite at all. Post oak wood is good but to costly & to much money to be made from post oak as all the bourbon distilleries here use it only to make wood stave barrels & lids/bottoms & pay good money to age their bourbon, very costly to smoke meats here with post oak

Who’s tasted the Dino ribs, mine was super duper salty, the meat had great texture but, too too salty, anyone else ... was disappointed, but I’ll try it again someday 👋
We bought some food to go. It was tender and tasty, among the best bar-b-q I had, but they were very pricey for a la carte. Way more than average family could afford. I supposed one could order just sandwich which is cheaper.
I'd say again, Black's bbq would be my fave from lockhart videos I have seen, Smitty's 2nd, & probably would not go to Kreuz new place, littlel ,light to no smoke, cook fast & meat will usually be chewy & tough Mr. Rick screwed up on this move, have not tried the newer owner's bb since Mr. Rick failed & sold out
ok now I'm hungry
RIP Edgar
Its good... but it's a solid third in the Lockhart big three. Smitty's IMO is best, just cant beat that ancient building and smokers.
That BBQ looks "good", will have to try if time permits (not from Texas).
Been there a couple years ago. Ridiculous beef rib. Don't hesitate to get this education!
i looooooove to slurpaplacenta its so fuckin tasty yall should totally cookem
I read the title wrong. I thought he wanted to return to A black family's cookout/barbecue! Hahahaha.....(I'll show myself out)
Barrett......yes, the history and barbecue is phenomenal.....but your grandmother's potato salad is With Out Equal....
allí no creo q vallan los santos reyes Hondurenos allí ay muchos frijolitos
killaroy
I sometimes envy Americans.
Slicing meat with the grain instead of cross grain?
+vulcan1429 I was watching another BBQ show and this guy went to a place in Texas where they cut with the grain too. . . .Must be a Texas thing maybe??? I don't get it tho.
That was the point end of the brisket and some people do cut that end with the grain, if it's tender enough (some call it too tender) and you try to cut against the grain it will just shred and look like pot roast.
If you want something done right do it yourself for half the price
i see sausage on the rack tbh
blackrrroy
eastern , nc home of BBQ
Vegetarian ?, that is an old native American Indian word that means very poor hunter, lol
I'm not a food cop ....... but what about cross comtamintion
THATS SOME DAMN RACIST BBQ!!!
Pardon?
I'll pass I know they didn't want my money in 1940 50 or 60 or 70
