And I'm the same i've prolly got about 30 years left if I'm lucky.....actually with the amount I drink....joking aside I look forward to these every year. All the best from Lancashire!
Concordia is so fucking good. One of the first modern board games I bought and love it even more than I did back then, especially with all the map variety and Venus and Solo expansion.
"One of the best workerplacement board games ever made... Lords of Waterdeep" - I knew it I wouldn't regret subscribing to this channel. We play this game for 8 years now and never lost the thrill. Simple to teach, tons of combinations (the expansion is a MUST. After our first game with it, we never played without it ever again. It's easy to teach non-gamers with the expansion, as well). So balanced between simplicity and complexity, 2 hour tops intense gaming that leaves you with the desire to play one more, even when you loose is that satisfying for me and my friends. I don't think I will ever find a more enjoyable board game. Nothing beats it! Great reviews, I like to see games that are not really popular, but hidden gems. All the best!
I love the idea of Waterdeep, and I bought fancy metal coins and Skullport, but I feel like whoever gets the most quests that compliment their lord is the winner. It’s almost always a runaway blowout here, but I still dig it. I’d love to see some kind of rebalancing pack and/or rules tweaks. I should probably actually play Skullport. I just need a secondary competitive option to lord/quest combos, and maybe it provides that. Another great title from the same era and publisher as Spartacus is Sons of Anarchy Men of Mayhem. An asymmetrical area control and light economics game that involves blind bidding during both the combat and “contraband” dealing phases, it felt really fresh at the time. The adult crime theme is a nice change of pace, and I’d be down for more of it. Good stuff if you can find it on the cheap. Thanks as always for the loverly videos!
@@BoardGameBollocks absolutely, and it too often feels like one person at the table is getting exactly what they need. Don’t get me wrong; I chalk this up to a mental deficiency on my part, more than anything.
If you've yet to play the expansions, they're amazing. 40-point Undermountain quests help with your complaint, and Skullport adds a corruption resource worth negative points to the game. I love it! Can't play without it anymore
I'm still waiting for the Spartacus expansion re-releases that they promised back in the day and I rue the day a younger me saw the TV screen captures of the older version and decided to pass on it untill it was too late to get it. I was an idiot...maybe still am
Agree that Catan is still epic. The random board setup means every game is different. In fact with at least one game of Catan is needed per week minimum
I strongly recommend you give it a try- doesnt feel like a cash grab (its maybe half the cost of the new thing) and makes the game feel bigger and better, while keeping the fun spirit of the original. Plus who doesnt love indestructible dreadnoughts 🤖💪
I’m always happy to see Catan on these lists. I keep my copy proudly displayed on my shelf and am always happy to play it, which is almost never thanks to the shite argument that “there are better games like it”. So? I just wish I had the money to buy the new 3D edition (along with Seafarers) and keep it on display on my game table. And agree with Lords of Waterdeep. No snobbery here, I’ve got metal coins for it, along with custom meeples and 3D printed corruption skulls. Now I’ve got to check out Carnival Zombies!
Dune may have come out before star wars...we like your opinionated humor - not the factually wrong humor 🤷♂️ but I cant spell correctly so take this for what its worth 😂. Appreciate your love for Catan as it is more simple than Scythe, and Klask is also harder to be good at than Coconuts 😩 but all are fun. Keep them coming we can endure 👊
I was excited to try Lord of Waterdeep after people comparing one of our favorite worker placement games to (Yedo) to it. Base game Waterdeep felt a little samey which I would say is true in Yedo too but for some reason, Yedo just feels so much more satisfying. Wondering if you've played that one 🤔
If you want a wholly better worker placement game than LoW in the same weight class, try Stone Age instead. If you want some of the best worker placement games ever made, try Caylus 1303 or Bus. Maybe Agricola.
@@shawnhilliard Bus is hard/expensive to get because Splotter lack any semblance of business acumen. However, Caylus 1303 is readily available and actually pretty cheap.
Getting to the good shit now. I hadn't heard of Carnival Zombie either, bit it looks the tits. I bet it's harder to find than a fucking virgin in wearside though.
I do like John D. Clair (Cubitos, Space Base), but I find it a bit odd that, on BGG, the the only games he has recently ranked a 10 happen to be his games. Good for him for being proud of his work, but I wonder if he is objective?
Sounds like a cash grab to me. Release a game - Rework it - Sell it to people who already have the original - make more money. Upgrade pack is nothing a few tiles and cards couldn’t solve. Instead they released a whole “new” game.
I say grab all the cash while you can, but you're not getting more from me. Dune Imperium is one game I would put in my tomb if I were put in one. Honestly, I may sell it and buy the new one, if I ever play it and like it more. There's nothing wrong with different versions, as long as they are good (and the rulebooks). My biggest outrage is being forced to spend time online as a rules researcher. No one pays me for that bullshit.
I'm a snob and LoW is one of the worst worker placement games that one can choose from the plethora of that genre. For the weight class, Stone Age beats it, hands down! Ready Set Bet is a great game and the only John D Clair game worth buying. Concordia is boring and would probably be better if it was *actually* a deck building game instead of a giant hand building game. Even then, probably not. Needs more interaction!
@@BoardGameBollocks That's not true! You can always roll enough dice to guarantee what you need, if you need it bad enough. Or you can take some risk and roll slightly less than you need to guarantee it. Or you can take a big risk and roll way less than you need. Luck is a part of many great games. It doesn't always need a way to be fully (or at all) mitigated.
Best boardgaming channel.

Dune Imperium Uprising: sadly it’s superior in every way.
Don’t kill the messenger.
I wasn’t thrilled about it either.
I’m sure it is. Had I not bought the first one I’d pick it up but there’s no point having both.
I just love your commentary, man. Makes me chuckle.
