- You've worked all spring to get your plants ready to go outside. Don't skip the final....and most important step! Harden off your plants to get them ready to be planted in your garden.

We hope that your planting will go easier this year after you harden off your plants! Let's get gardening!!
Agreed. Hardest to manage being gone all day. Thankfully we have loads of cloudy days to help me out. Great info
Being gone all day is tough. I'm lucky that I have the coop to protect my plants and can pull them back into the shade if I'll be gone. Thanks for stopping by Lisa!!
Yes I have done this…i didn’t know it was called sun scald. Thanks for sharing that! I just put oregano and comfrey today. They’re herbs so I’m expecting them to be more tolerant but we’ll see!! 😊👍❤️and yesss the carrying them in and out is a chore! But so worth it!
I've been the victim of sun scald. I didn't know any better and learned a lesson the hard way. Carrying them in & out is part of the gardeners workout! Cheers Tammy!
GREAT VIDEO!
Thanks for stopping by to watch and comment! Glad you liked the video! Have a great week!
Good morning I saw you on Alsbama Farm so checked you out. I have really enjoyed your video, thanks for posting. I just subscribed to your channel.
Thanks for joining us on our channel! We appreciate your support! We love our gardening, chickens and ham radio....so that's what you'll see here! I hope you'll watch a bunch and add your comments! Cheers Micky!
My dear friend, thanks so much for sharing so much great information about starting plants. Hugs and kisses from grandma Sandy and Debbie.
Thanks for stopping by to watch and comment! Cheers Sandy & Debbie!!
Big LIKE 50 here Rich….Harding Off is so important….agree! You folks in Minnesota are ahead of us by a few weeks.
I didn't think anyone was behind us. I'm getting ready to get a couple cooler-weather plants in the ground this weekend. I hope you won't be too far behind us. Let's get gardening! Cheers Garry!
Best wishes nice plants dear friend ❤❤❤
Thank you for stopping by to watch and comment. Have a great week! Cheers!
You are not alone. We jump the gun every year. Another great video my friend.
I'm so bad at this! I am always trying to push the season and hope I don't get damaged plants. Glad I'm not alone! Thanks for stopping by!!
We have some stuff hardening off here. I picked up a small greenhouse and I’m really impressed. Our grow tent is pretty packed full. Can’t wait to be planting outside and clear up the space in the kitchen. Sorry I’m so late on this. I’m not getting notifications for a few of you. Starting from seed is crazy time-consuming but, so worth it. Have a great weekend Rich and Holly. 🌱💚
I agree about the time consuming but worth it. So inexpensive versus buying plants. I need a greenhouse, but it needs to be made of plexiglass (or something strong). We've had so much wind that a cheap greenhouse wouldn't survive. Can't wait to see all that you have planted. Cheers Jen!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm yes, you folks would need a very stable greenhouse with the weather you get there. Hopefully this little one stands up for a few seasons. We will be eventually building a large one on the property. 🍻
You always have great tips. Just stopping by to say hello from Kentucky ❤
Thanks for stopping by Rhonda! Check out our last video as we've got a prize drawing coming up!
Cold days... The seedlings get angry and turn blue 😊 But the sun will correct the situation, I'm sure!
We've had a few cold days and nights. The plants would be blue for sure! I can't wait for warmer weather! Cheers Alexa!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm Thank you! You too!
Great tips! And so true, those seedlings need to be hardened, i have a covered patio in the backyard, that's where I have mine 😊
A perfect place for the plants! If you get chickens, you'll have to relook at your process!! Thanks for stopping by Juani! Have a great week!
Your seedlings look great - thanks for this great tip - i usually plant out directly and then battle to save them...now i know why.
Sun scald is a real issue. It can be a hard week to wait but the hardening off is critical! Let me know how it all goes this spring. Cheers Anne!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm will do so
Great reminder!! Thanks! I have mine inside still, with a fan on them. 😊
Hopefully we'll get enough warm weather this weekend and you can get them outside for a little bit. I have used the fan inside too. There is nothing better than a light breeze versus the fan. Keep the fingers crossed......spring is close!! Cheers!
The WORST part of gardening 😂. Drives me crazy every year. So so crucial! Great video. Most important step in gardening
I'm still weighing which is worse: hardening the plants or watering!! Cheers Lisa!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm hehe hardening for sure!
Really helpful information. Thanks for sharing.
The hardest part of the year! Thanks for stopping by to watch and comment! Cheers!
This part is a lot of work but so worth it!
I've been hauling them in and out of the house all week. It's a great leg workout to climb the stairs from the basement and get them out to the coop. I'm getting my steps in!! Cheers Annette!
Where I live in texas we get some nice days during the winter just before spring planting time. Ive always taken my plants out during these mild days. I suppose I was hardening them but I was just trying to do is expose them to a better light than where I had them started.
I was able to finally get Cabbage from seeds ths year and picked my first cabbage yesterday.
I'll be getting the cabbage in the ground today. You are so far ahead of us! Glad you picked your first veggies. Congrats!
At home we started tomatoes inside 6 inch drainage. I still do.
They get tall to get sunshine.
My problem is when the deer want to graze.
I've had deer stop by at a past home. They didn't eat all the tomato but just trimmed them back. I'm glad we rarely get deer out on our homestead. Have a great week Bryce!
The only thing I start in the spring is tomatoes peppers and eggplants. Those get set out on the porch to harden off after they get up and going, and that's where they stay unless we are to get a night of chilly weather. Everything else is direct sown, which needs no hardening off.
Good info Rich.
You've got two seasons worth of growing versus us! I wanted to get the cabbage out quick to take advantage of our cool weather. I bet it's 80 down there already. It'll be fun to watch your garden explode. You've got such an advantage over us. Have a great week Gwen!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm We have had a few days that were 80s already. In reality we can pretty much grow year round. Depending on season. Spring and summer usually have some leftover winter things still coming in until the heat arrives. Then I can sometimes plant three crops like corn, peas, sometime planting one or the other twice. Then come fall, it's time for green beans, because they will not set pods after temps reach 85 degrees. Then in October/November it's time to get things like brassicas, carrots, lettuce, swiss chard etc. in the ground.
@@BroqueCowgirlHomestead That's a whole different world from here. I get June 1 - September 30 (guaranteed). The rest is a bonus!! Enjoy Gwen!!
Time to plant here in Va, gotten warm and pollent is all over
I hope you're not sneezing too much. When the pines let off their pollen, it is like a cloud out here. I'm going to plant the cabbage today. Good luck with your planting. I'll be watching to see what you plant. Cheers Dave!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm Sneezing and running eyes 👀
Maybe I’m just lucky, I never harden them off anymore. I’ve done it before, but never notice a difference. Perhaps just because our spring is mild and maybe a little luck. We probably have the benefit of not much wind and the tennis mild in spring.
Maybe it's your climate or you've picked cloudy days to bring out the plants. I won't put plants in the garden without hardening them. I've just had such bad luck with sun scald and wind. Thanks for stopping by to watch! Cheers!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm yes I try and plant out when it’s still overcast.
My seedlings are outside now. 7a
Yes! It's going to be warm for the next 4-5 days so I've got mine outside for a while. I hope they'll be fully hard soon. Keep us posted on your progress. You're far ahead of us (4B). Cheers!
Where are you located.
Minnesota, about an hour southwest of Minneapolis.
Good talk, but if you demonstrate, I get more value.
I had so many requests, I wanted to get a video out. I'll try to film another video with examples of each step. Thanks for the reminder!
@@TheOldSwedesFarm Thanks. I'm visual. I tune out quickly if people are just talking especially about these common gardening stuff. I tune in to see how you DO things. And, I do like your channel which is rare for me.
@@C3Voyage Thanks Brent. I totally agree. I got this out to help a few people who were asking. I am a visual guy too or I need to actually do something versus hearing/reading it. I'll get out another video with some good visuals....this spring. Glad you like the channel. If you've got ideas for videos, let me know. Have a great rest of your week! Cheers!
