Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ruclips.net/user/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
I'm just hearing swear words coming from the tablet the kids are watching. I'm like what the hell are they watching. I check......its just real life applications of when to properly use swear words. Lessons from our kayaking friend. Carry on children. Just dont let mom or grandma hear you repeat the shit you hear on there. Thanks dad.
I really like your over head shots of the whole kayak and you ! I would like to see more of that. Then go to just the fish and release. Thank you again for your time and efforts to bring people some enjoyment we can not have. Jay.
love the channel, you guys in flordia are so blessed with nice fish variety! i wish are waters in california were that pristine! so much life in those waters
*Awesome rod! I've always been a fan of Ugly Stik and this rod suits my needs well. It is a 2 piece rod but if that is a concern it's nothing a small piece of electrical tape can't fix. Also, that way you can travel with it more compactly if need be. The 7' medium action is perfect for what I fish for. I fish mainly bass and some pan fish and this rod does great with bigger fish yet also still allowing you to feel the fight of a smaller fish.*
You are probably the only channel I watch Steve, that I hit that like button "BEFORE" I even watch the video. Nice to see those tunas are around. I gotta fish soon or I will bust! Tight Lines......
Thanks Frank. I've been seeing some videos going out so you better get out there. I am land locked for a few days with this northern weather coming through.
Awesome video, Loved watching you whip black fin on the Ugly Stik. Lets keep in mind this rod is thinner than most guys pinky finger at the reel! Great stuff man!
Excellent kayak fishing adventure videos. Your videos are really cool. Your an excellent fisherman, and you should try catching and cooking more sharks for fish&chips, that helps reduce the shark problem. Your live bait fishing and lure jiging efforts are always rewarded. Good job. Well done.
I remember this old video when my saltwater setup kinda broke. I just replaced the rod with the 7' GX2. I guess i'll see if the reds and specks can handle it next time I'm done in FL.
I've never seen your vids before that I can remember. This is the second in a row and I'm now subscribing. Oh, and I told my mother that I want to push you overboard and paddle off with your boat and all of your gear. I'm in love with your boat! XD
Hey Steve thanks for talking with us and giving us advise on where to go.. Our waves were about 3 to 4 feet till about 3 or so.. We did catch some fish though
Hey, love your videos. I'm going to Mykonos for the month and thinking of bringing this GX2 set up - I like the fact that it is cheap enough where I won't feel bad if it breaks during transit or usage. What do you recommend that I rig it with? I can't find any mention of what line/leader/exact jig weight you're using with this rod in the videos. Edit: Also, can I get away with using the stock reel?
Again nice video and thanks again for us landlubbers you named the fish as you caught them and also named which fish possibly cut your line. Good clear audio also. thumbs up!
Glad you liked it. I try to focus on the educational side of the fishing as I am not fond of the "watch me reel in a fish" type videos. Thanks for watching.
Steve, have you tried 49 strand v the old 7 strand to try to save some of those cutoffs? I know it might hinder the action a little, but with all the hookups you get you would still be ahead of the game and maybe even see some of those toothy monsters.
I don't like to use wire overall. I would rather get more bites and lose a few than get fewer bites and maybe catch a couple of toothys. Gotta remember your hookup rates with sharks will increase drastically with wire. That just kills the day.
Nice video Steve. Some good eating right there. We jig cod, haddock and pollock all about 40 lbs. up north. They fight pretty good for a while but tire out quickly.
Most kind of have to explain it off to their clients. I think it does add a bit of pressure to catch fish. I do have an advantage as most don't vertical jig as it is a tougher technique. I end up getting a lot more hookups and it is a much more exciting way to fish.
you caught more fish with the ugly stick and penn conflict reel put a whoopin on them fish man love that reel i have the 8000 and damn its a beast of a reel only cons our there heavy
Yea, getting rid of the combo reel actually makes it a really useable rod. The 6000 pretty much covers most of the fishing that I do. For serious vertical jigging, I think the line capacity of the 8000 would be better.
Great video! Steve, concerning clothing - specifically pants, what are your current recommendations for the current season here in Florida? Just a thought - maybe you can do a video on clothing recommendations for particular seasons... Thanks
There is nothing bad to say about ugly here. At present my experiences with the #1100 ugly seven foot model have led me down a road a can only describe as addiction. The walleye tournaments and years of personal abuse on shore and bouncy little boats ----- in all the years -----broke one guide off ---- caught 50,000 fish. Carry - on.
No problem I really enjoy them. One of these days I plan to come to Florida to fish. I fish in the Gulf a couple times a year but we have to go out 50-100 miles to catch fish like that.
Nice vid Steve. I hate losing Jigs as well since there so dam expesnsive... I got some Cheap Jigs off of Ebay and they seem pretty good. Better then expensive Williamson ones.
Aloha Steve, WOW great jigging action. Good to see you replaced the lame reel the Ugly-Stik came with. Do you not eat Almaco Jacks there? They make pretty tasty sashimi. How far you have to run to get to 300 feet depth. I have to run 3 miles offshore to reach 300 feet on my side of the island. Was there a wreck or seamount out there? Interesting how all your break-offs seemed to be happening on the heavier conventional outfit. Heavier jigs = bigger toothier fish? I'm guessing your ride in was smoother than your ride out with following seas? Mahalo for another great vid.
Yea, they are the best of the jacks for eating. Not going to keep one over a Tuna though. It is basically 4 miles to the inside of the reef. 6 miles to the outside edge of the reef. 7miles to 100ft. 8 miles to 300 ft. Then a continual dropoff. It's a wreck so bigger stuff hanging out by the structure. Plus Sharks thrown in the mix. Can start out with a small fish then that gets eaten by something much bigger. Winds subsided later so it was fairly clean run home.
No, just for friends. I usually don't even do that but people freak out when I throw Blackfins back. LOL. Almost easier to keep them and give them away. Reply ·
awesome fishing love your channel. im going to get some vertical jigs to try them out next time ive never used them. is there a required depth when using them think a 120ft wreck will work good?
Key West Kayak Fishing. awesome will do man , thanks for the tip :) cant wait to try it. alot of mackarels and amberjacks where i fish. never cought any bonita or tuna tho.
Is that the 2 piece GX2 Ultra Light? Also I’d like to see you actually working the jig on it in the video. Do you speed jig or flutter? When you switched to the heavier jig did you go to a 1 ounce?
i know it's an old video but 8:34 you could have used the audio from the head camera. i can tell you how to do it if you let me know which editing software you use.
Hello from Spain, Amazing and beautiful video. Like! One question, what is the weight of the jig you were using with the Ugly Stik gx2 in this video? By the way, is this fishing video in Key West, Florida? Thank you very much and keep it up.
Quick question, have you ever done a kayak over view? as in all the things you have done to it? if so can i get a link? would love to see the effirt put into a setup like this
Out of curiosity,do people that Kayak Fish in the Ocean ever have problems with Sharks, due to the Kayakers close proximity to the surface of the Water, and as a result of that, Sharks would surface out of curiosity, and also while Fishing the Fish caught will Bleed some, and that Blood trail will lead back to the Fishing vessel ,also the Shark/Sharks learn that people are a food source ,or a source of food ,and Sharks seem to understand that someone in a Kayak, or Fishing Boat has food and would hang around for that reason,
No, they don't care about anything except fish for food. They come around because of the vibrations from a struggling fish that you are bringing in. That is what they care about. On the West Coast/California, you have Great Whites, seals and sea lions, and murky water. That causes attacks on kayaks. We have clear water and there is no mistaking what is what. I have had Sharks bite the rudder because it sticks down but that is because they are being nosy like a dog. You have to remember that they don't have hands to feel anything. They are just wandering around so you know they are not doing it out of aggression.
lmao. Love the swear words. Just like the rest of us when we loose fish. Great video. Thanks Steve.
Thank you for the correction.
Yea, just keeping it real. I think people get tired of the political correctness.
Keep it realistic :)

Glad you liked them jay. Trying to please thousands of people is tough to do.
love the channel, you guys in flordia are so blessed with nice fish variety! i wish are waters in california were that pristine! so much life in those waters
Yea, but you guys get more Great White attacks. LOL I am a Nor Cal Kayak transplant. Rock fish and crabbing.
Nothing better then 5:33!!! So jealous, this looks awesome!
It means it's going to be a fair fight. Time for some grunting.
What kind of shark problems have you experienced with bleeding your catches in the drive well? Ever been bumped?

that is a good pole Steve. That looks like a whole lot oF fun! HOOKEM IN THE MOUTH!
Just had to say I'm now subscribed to you because you show real emotion and cuss like a true fisherman, awesome videos by the way!!
Appreciate that. Welcome to the channel.
Awesome video, Loved watching you whip black fin on the Ugly Stik. Lets keep in mind this rod is thinner than most guys pinky finger at the reel! Great stuff man!
Hi. Are you using the spinning version of the gx2 or the boat version?
Excellent kayak fishing adventure videos. Your videos are really cool. Your an excellent fisherman, and you should try catching and cooking more sharks for fish&chips, that helps reduce the shark problem. Your live bait fishing and lure jiging efforts are always rewarded. Good job. Well done.
Great video! As always. I look forward to your uploads. Good work and happy fishing.
Thanks for watching Phil.

That's one amazing setup man.
Crazy to think primitive people used the first kayaks to cross waters like and we're way less stable.
ugly stik is killin it,,,lol...great rods...
shit reels
Yea, it is holding up well. Have no complaints.
what are the specs of your gx2?
Says the kayak man and that is it kids
Hey Steve thanks for talking with us and giving us advise on where to go.. Our waves were about 3 to 4 feet till about 3 or so.. We did catch some fish though
No problem. The wind controls all down here. Gotta adapt or go bridge fishing.
So are we not going to talk about him throwing a fish 100mph into the water 😂😂
😭🤣
Lmao I do the same... but typically if a fin pokes my hand lol 😆
can i use an 6000 spinning reel on the Shakespeare Ugly Stik GX2 Spinning Rod 7' Medium heavy Spinning Rod
Awesome video Steve. Those fishes gave you a workout lol. Thanks for jigging tips. Gonna try it out this season! tight lines.
I'll be doing a jigging tutorial on Wednesday. Goes through some different techniques.
Hey you talk to the fish like I do....LOL Especially the ones that cause you a problem. Thanks for the honest videos.
Hey, love your videos. Fishing as it actually happens.
Enjoyed it.
"break his spirit....break his spirit.....noooooooooooooo! FUCK!"
kusdaddy02 fffffffffffffFFFFFFFUUUUUUCCK
Broke my line instead. 0-2 on the big boys. I'll be back with a little more aggression.
Can you do attach another gopro under the kayak so we can see the bottom when you reel in the fish.
Emre Emirler that would be really cool
I might be able to drop it through my mirage drive. Good idea.
Then you remove it. -.-
That was the best intro ive ever seen in my entire life oh my God XD
Glad you liked it.
Love watching ur videos...😄

When your drag was on lil b$*** mode it hurt the crap out of my ears
Nice video Steve. Some good eating right there. We jig cod, haddock and pollock all about 40 lbs. up north. They fight pretty good for a while but tire out quickly.
Yea, out bottom species are like that. If you can break them early, then it is just wind em up. These Pelagics live to swim so they never stop.
May i use sinker weights on Ugly Stik gx2 medium 6 on saltwater like big ocean in middle east?
You put those charter captains to shame! ✊🏼
Steve's 'Da man!
Most kind of have to explain it off to their clients. I think it does add a bit of pressure to catch fish. I do have an advantage as most don't vertical jig as it is a tougher technique. I end up getting a lot more hookups and it is a much more exciting way to fish.

Love Ugly sticks! Looks like those smallish tuna have a ton of fight in them! IYO, do redfish and bass fight just as much?(Anybody).
Those Ugly Sticks are tough as nails! Tried and true. ❤
you caught more fish with the ugly stick and penn conflict reel put a whoopin on them fish man love that reel i have the 8000 and damn its a beast of a reel only cons our there heavy

Ayee! another video👌
Get ready for more. I have the week already set up.
Lmfao when he said i had my drag on little bitch mode 😂
so the beginning of the video...
Just speaking the truth. But this way, the only person's feelings that got hurt was mine.
Great video! Steve, concerning clothing - specifically pants, what are your current recommendations for the current season here in Florida? Just a thought - maybe you can do a video on clothing recommendations for particular seasons... Thanks
Here you go. ruclips.net/video/f5OcaZKThIw/видео.html

Yea, rugged is just one way you could describe them.
300 feet of water another awesome video!! 🤙
That's the secret depth down here.
Love your vids man keep up the good work!
Thanks rcagle123. Thanks for watching.
No problem I really enjoy them. One of these days I plan to come to Florida to fish. I fish in the Gulf a couple times a year but we have to go out 50-100 miles to catch fish like that.
Great video brother. How far offshore are you? Wondering if you ever get spooked being out there on a kayak?
8 miles. Nah, I find it peaceful out there.
How long does it take to get out there? An hour?
Jupiter George Fishing u
Jupiter George Fishing z
THat first fish was a very small tuna. Do you ever do catch and release to let them get bigger ?
I don't keep any for myself. You should watch my videos.
Nice to see you on the water again. I always learn something, (bleeding tuna, and say no to spongy rods). Just not a fan of the ugly.
Thanks glad they are helpful. Not my rod of choice for saltwater stuff, but it changes things up and challenges you to adapt.
Nice vid Steve. I hate losing Jigs as well since there so dam expesnsive... I got some Cheap Jigs off of Ebay and they seem pretty good. Better then expensive Williamson ones.
Yea, I don't know how those guys can drop a $10-20 lure. Lose way too many. I would puke and then cry.
Is that GX2 medium action rod used for jigging?
You are a champion.
Thinking about buying a GX2. How do y’all like them?
I have a few of US’s heavy offshore rigs, but I want something a little smaller for my kayak
Aloha Steve, WOW great jigging action. Good to see you replaced the lame reel the Ugly-Stik came with. Do you not eat Almaco Jacks there? They make pretty tasty sashimi. So you take orders as in like you are also a commercial fisherman? That is bloody awesome!
No, just for friends. I usually don't even do that but people freak out when I throw Blackfins back. LOL. Almost easier to keep them and give them away.

Would you recommend me to get a Penn Fierce II 6000 or 8000 Reel for a Ugly Stick Gx2?
What lb braid were you using with the 6k conflict?
Is that the 6” or the 6”,6’ GX 2?
"GX2 POWAH, FEEL THE POWAH" Lol
The energy from that rod. LOL. Halleluah!!!!
impressive that it did not snap.. looked like all the weight was on that reel .. i guess shark fishing up next for the gx2? maybe a 6 ft hammer..lol
awesome fishing love your channel. im going to get some vertical jigs to try them out next time ive never used them. is there a required depth when using them think a 120ft wreck will work good?
Yea, that would be about the minimum I would try it with. Go with smaller jigs for that depth. Unless there is a lot of current.
Key West Kayak Fishing. awesome will do man , thanks for the tip :) cant wait to try it. alot of mackarels and amberjacks where i fish. never cought any bonita or tuna tho.
Great video Steve. I know what you need :)
Thanks. The food side is tomorrow.
Medium action ??
Ugly stik gx2 travel rod 4pieces 6'6" medium action is can handle tuna like that you caught ???
Is that the 2 piece GX2 Ultra Light? Also I’d like to see you actually working the jig on it in the video. Do you speed jig or flutter? When you switched to the heavier jig did you go to a 1 ounce?
This GX2 rods are a workhorse for a great price.
Just wondering if you had something happen that far out where you had to paddle back home? Thanks for the video.
I used to paddle that far out before I had my Hobie if that counts.
Will that ugly stick be good for red snapper...
That UDS is amazing!
Can I suggest using assist hooks that have a longer line length ? Might avoid some of those break-offs
I make them either 1/3 lure length or 2/3 lure length. Doesn't help when the entire jig is taken.
Dig the videos Keep it up 👍🏻
Love those Shimano reels ;)
Shimano 02 my 15 year old Shimano Saragosa I just replaced cause I broke the tip off in some mangoves.. I loved that rod
Kevin Block haha I'm sorry for your loss man. Mostly use the spinning reels Shimano makes, and they are as smooth as butter!
Yea, that baseline Torium is taking a beating and only have had to strip it once. Pretty solid. Gotta pay the price for the name though.
Looks like aa nice day
I don't think I ever ate a black fin. Any good? Also I love your hat and you must have a real good seat or super strong back or both.
Michael Teeter do you eat tinned tuna? If so you've probably even had dolphin
Top tier fish. Like all the Tuna, great raw to cooked however you want.
Dylan Zrim yes I do. So OK. I have had wahoo tuna and albacore tuna to.
Like what they use in sushi?
your intro though I lost my jig because i had my drag on little bitch mode:) you always make me laugh
i know it's an old video but 8:34 you could have used the audio from the head camera. i can tell you how to do it if you let me know which editing software you use.
whoa deadpool!!!!
new to kayak jigging. but how bad do you attract sharks when you bleed out your fish in the water?
Which ugly stik would you use for bottom fishing
Hello from Spain,
Amazing and beautiful video. Like!
One question, what is the weight of the jig you were using with the Ugly Stik gx2 in this video?
By the way, is this fishing video in Key West, Florida?
Thank you very much and keep it up.
I was using a 2oz jig. Fairly light as the rod is a medium action. Yea, Key West Florida. Thanks for watching.
Lost my gig because I had my drag set on Lil bitch mode. Hahaha so funny
It is what it is. Stick it to em or they stick it to you.
Good video again.
Thanks info. Glad you liked it.
Key west kayak pls keep doing what your doing your videos are awesome
Appreciate it. Thx for watching.
👍👍👍
Thanks mad.
Gotta put some seven strand leaders on hehe Great video wish I was there.
Yea, there is a balance between not getting bites or getting cut offs.
Most savage fisherman youtuber goes tooooo😂
Thanks man.
WTF Steve? Can't believe those fish whoop your az, I'm gonna send Mr Charles Cramer over to HOOKEM IN THE MOUTH, LOLOLOL:-):-)
Yea, I needed someone to yell at me for not cranking down the drag.
Key West Kayak Fishing You Know we love you Steve, that's the reason we keep coming back;-):-):-):-)
“No more Bitch Mode this time Fucker.” LOL! 😂 @6:24.
im glad i got an ugly stick gx2 now
sir is that 2 pcs rod?
I have a question where did you purchase your stabilizer from
Feel the powa
Quick question, have you ever done a kayak over view? as in all the things you have done to it? if so can i get a link? would love to see the effirt put into a setup like this
ruclips.net/video/r7ZEqCVuk_M/видео.html
What kind of action was the Ugly Stik GX2?
is that a Ugly Stik model # USSP601H ?

Next challenge for ugly stik, feeling in a Marlin, swordfish or sailfish
Great Video, keep it up
Appreciate it Dean. Thanks for watching and commenting.
We had the same reaction to the water conditions when we got out there too lol
You look forward to some clean calm water and then ugh. Going to be a rough beat up day.
