Funny Story: For the past roughly 10 years I thought that the Ugly Stik fishing rod I owned said "Ugly Stik Lite". I always thought that was an odd name because the rod is anything but "lite". After I made this video, I go searching the internet for Ugly Stik "Lite" fishing rods, but could not find a thing. I thought this was strange. Maybe they are discontinued? I did keep seeing Ugly Stik "Elite" fishing rods however and suddenly realized that the "E" on my fishing rod is so blurry that it looks like "lite" not "Elite". So basically for years I've been walking around telling people I'm fishing with a "Lite Ugly Stik". How many people thought, "What a noobie"?
My son just bought me an Ugly Stik "Elite" for Christmas and the other day we went fishing to try it out, after fishing he asked "how do you like your new Ugly Stik E- "Lite"?😂
$110 vs 40 I'll pick up 3 gx2s and dip them in cooking oil for the shine had Mr origional ugly stick for over 2 years and it is still going strong. Back then it was only $40 also

I have an old Wonder Rod made in 1961 or 62, and the guy at the sporting store took that rod and made a complete circle with it! I still have that rod to this day! My rod is shorter, about 6 foot long, made of fiberglass, with a heavy taper for bait fishing.

The Uribe has what is called a spiral wrap on it's guides. It's designed to reduce the amount of torque that you feel at the reel when fighting a fish. With a spiral wrapped rod you will be able to fish longer and with less wrist twisting when reeling in your catch. It really works great.

I do have this rod. Bought it because of the great review on Tackletour. Loomis Edge rods have the acid or upside guides also. This rod compared to the Ugly design is the fact that the Uribe is a fast action rod like a good rod should be.
The point of the guides being on the bottom (also know as spiral wrap or acid wrap) is to prevent the blank from twisting which is usually why casting rods break rather than the blank being too weak or stiff, if you were curious
The upside down guides is called an acid wrap. It really helps keep the line from touching the rod and can support a lot more. Plus you can cast further when rolling your wrists with an acid wrap
The absolute best stress test I’ve seen on the Ugly Stick, that other rod was pretty damn sweet! The way you tested the rods was awesome, I was nervous the whole time watching. I’ve seen the other videos you highlighted and was not near as impressed. You should be making commercials for these rods! I feel like I should go buy more lol
Have you looked at the prices of those Uribe rods? Each one (rod alone) is two to four times more expensive than a rod & reel combo of the Ugly Stik GX2 in his example. I'll stick with my Ugly Stiks. Great, reliable, rods (and reels).

I have 4 Ugly Stik Lites. I own 1 Ugly Stick Tiger Rod. Never ever broke one. Caught dozens of big channel catfish and huge carp. The Tiger handled big blue fish with ease. Not sure about the GX2 rods.
That guide layout is known as acid wrap. Not really a new thing, but like you said it provides better line support particularly vertical jigging big game, tuna, amberjack..etc Cool rod Im going to look this guy up.
I think this is an interesting video. I would like to point out however that when I use an open-face reel, the guides are all pointing downward. That said, I have an old Unispin rod-n-reel, which I love and am hoping to clean up and use this summer, but it's used like an open-face reel (upside down), so its guides are on the bottom too. Surely the twisted eye set up would ruin line flow in the cast? Could you do a casting test for distance and accuracy with both rods to see if it makes a major difference?
Can you do another video like this with multiple rods and explain the difference in lengths of rods there are soooo many in different sizes and what are the sizes best for ?
I hit local yard sales and always come home with at least 5-6 UGLY STICK rods that cost me less then $5.00 each. I live right off the boardwalk in ATLANTIC CITY,NJ and so far nothing broke any of my ugly stick rods

Should have used a full face shield like people grinding metal, I had one rod break the mid section, went off like a gun, slit and part shattered, powered resin everywhere

That is exactly how me and my buddies would test or ugly stiks when we bought them we would see if the tip could touch the bottom of the other side of the rod where we hold it at and went lot of the times they would break in the stores and those were the ones we did not buy but a lot of them we would touch them to the bottom where we held them at and they didn't break and we bought those ones so that is a great test your friend majorly right rod and that is amazing good for him and that is a great way to test any ugly stick or your friends rod I would not do this with any other fishing rod besides an ugly stick or your friends.

The wrap around guides, do not make the rod any stronger. This is common on jigging rods. It is so that on the down stroke the line will not wrap around the guide, but slide off the tip of the rod. If the line wraps the tip and a fish strikes you can break the rod. Keep up the videos...

Contemporary Ugly Stiks aren't your father's Ugli Stik. I bought a GX2 Ugli-Stik a couple of years ago. It's a wimpy piece of trash. My 1978 Ugli Stik is still going strong and catching fish. The difference? Well, my 1978 is American made quaility intended to deliver exceptional performance for an economy price. My 2015 Ugli-Stik is designed to maximize profits. The reel they included in the combo doesn't even have an anti-reverse switch.

I caught a 20lb carp with a pflugfer president the smallest one they make, the 6920 ,on a ultra light ugly stick.

You should try a MadKatz rod there out of NC and they have a ton of rods and I saw a ugly stick rod and they are so much stronger one
