Hundreds of years from now, future generations will study this chord pattern with wonder and amazement and want to learn. Additionally, they will be thrilled to know that Keef will still be alive to teach them.
I complain about most guitar lessons... but this is beautifull. No enormous amounts of bla bla bla, just the playing while explaining. Exelent work.Very clear. Realy helped!
That opening minute of the song, graphically brought to life in the demo with the 3-guitar split screen, is simply a thing of beauty. For the ages. The tutorial itself is meticulous, as always.
And I so appreciate that he begins each video playing the entire song through. You know he's legit and he’s not spending the first 5 minutes just talking.
This gives me chills! NO guitar "teacher" has ever posted a more comprehensive and spot on rendition of this song. I'll be working on this for months. Thanks again Andy!
I'm from Argentina and i've been learning from your videos for years. This is the first time I comment. Do you realize you are inspiring a person from the other side of the globe? Love you man!
I go to other instructor videos when I want to learn to play something, and all are good and it's nice to get different takes on songs. But when I want to hear how it should REALLY sound this is the guy. No one else comes close to capturing the technique and amp sound of a song. Pure perfection.
You have, I think, the best lessons for songs on RUclips. First, you try to be exact which is nice. But you also go slow, explain and show multiple times with your standard black background and a sharp focus on the playing. You play full speed, then note/chord by note/chord slowly explaining the fingering and picking. Although I am an intermediate guitarist and struggle with some of the songs you put on here, I can now play so many pretty spot on. I just want to say thank you!
Well, listen to Martin Barre's solo on "we used to know" and Aqualung from Jethro Tull could change your mind about Keith's statement. Additionally, Keith has never been a solo guitarist, he made amazing riffs but that's it. Jimmy Page, Angus Young, David Gilmour, Martin Barre, Robbie Krieger, Brian May. They can do everything.
@@loaneslone7168 it has been said by KR “you are not a rhythm guitarist or a lead guitarist but you are a guitarist so you are the one who plays guitar always.”
This Man is so dedicated. He will not settle for “I almost got it Down”. This is why his lessons are the best on the Internet. He is capturing every nuance of these haunting parts of every Stones Song (such as Wild Horses) that have given me chills every single time I have listened to them. I thank you very much for making me a better guitar player. I take so much away for my own playing and composing by finally learning the real way to play some of the best riffs and songs ever written and injected into human ears,...🤪
Can’t watch this enough. Been playing for decades and you kill this. And lots of other great stuff. Great chops and straight forward teaching. Intermediate/advanced
My God. Perfection. I can never repay you for showing me how to do it. Let's never forget how blessed was Keith to have Charlie's subtle power behind him keeping the beat. When Charlie tears into it with the final notes of the intro, it's like a Hellfire missile finding the target.
It is rumored that Keith Richards watches your videos to remember how to play his songs before every tour! Thanks for an amazing job on "Gimme Shelter!"
You did a great job on this. This is the most accurate transcription of Gimme Shelter on you tube. I slowed the intro down this morning and the first riff IS different and exactly as you show it! What an awesome player and teacher you are. Thank you so much for this song.
@@Nobody_Important_YeaThey do somehow overlook him when talking about the virtuosos, it’s always Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Stevie Ray, etc. But I think apart from Hendrix no one comes close to the cool vibe of Keith. Who cares about this shit anyway, those ratings don’t even care to mention Delta bluesmen or whole other bunch of genius guitarists just because they are not mainstream. Or women, for that matter.
Obviously Keith is an iconic guitar player. But...this really is one of the best guitar riffs ever, and gets kind of forgotten in that greatest riffs conversation. It really is fantastic! Great job 👏
The Stones just nailed intros didn't they. You can never mistake them but for me this song has their best intro by a country mile. The song is great too obviously!
The tuning info really helped me get closer to the record. As a kid plunking along in 1970, I was unaware of alternatives to standard tuning. And I was trying this on my 12 string Yamaha, which I still have. August, 2024.
Remember when you just couldn't quite get a song? Now I know where to go & get it. Thank you for that &:anyone reading this gets exactly what I'm talking about. So glad I found this page. Me & my 6 strings thank you.
Man I appreciate this! Just the right speed to show someone how to play. You show what needs to be shown without repeating yourself and confusing people. Great work!
You, my friend....have a natural gift for teaching! That talent rivals your facility on the fretboard, which is formidable by itself. No flattery, just calling it like I see it. 👍
I just want to thank you for what you do here. You have been extremely helpful in all your tutorials. You are the first person I go to when I'm having trouble working out something. Thanks again. Keep up the good work.
The reason why you don’t have a million subscribers is due to the fact that you are the guitar player’s teacher. Your lessons are always the real deal. Thanks man!
I toured with the Stones as a sub contractor rigger on the Steel Wheels tour for a few dates and you are telling the truth when you said Keith never played it the same twice. So so true. Saw it, heard it. Love your channel so I threw you a little tip brother. Awesome playing!!
On the original recording this is ALL done by Keith, no MT, glad someone else knows that! Keith doesn't get enough credit for his contribution to the rock ' n ' roll guitar lexicon, and his finger prints are all over it! And thank you for rekindling my love of The Stones! Great video, great ear!
I first listened to this song as a kid and keep coming back to it with awe and wonder. The song is timeless as its about the threat of war. And unfortunately that never gets old.
That song has always felt eerie to me, made me feel unsettled. I thought it was dark then and I still do now. Even though, it still had a type of beauty to it which is why I felt unsettled.
Quite possibly one of the most iconic Tunes in rock history, definitely of that era! Just hearing the intro gives me a feeling in the pit of my stomach thinking about the Altamont gig...so heavy, right? KEEF IS A LIVING LEGEND❤❤❤
Man does this video sound awesome on my home theatre. Credit to the stones for creating this music and credit to the player in this video for such an awesome rendition. Best guitar into ever!!
Superb work, thank you! That's the beauty of writing you're own stuff! Play it any way you want, every time, and let everyone try and figure it out. I bet Kief never played it the same as the original recording again. But when you're the master riff-maker, why should he? Such a genius song writer. All hail Keith Richards!
This is hands down the best lesson I have seen in trying to learn this song. Immaculate playing note by note, and perfectly explained. And man oh MAN, Keef was on fire when he wrote this....just pure melodic and rhythmic genius! Always floored by how the greats come up with these masterpieces...and in OpenE no less. Fantastic lesson, Andy....just purchased your MusicNotes tabs for this one so I can really get it down! 😀
I think this is the pinnacle rock song. I don't think there's a better song in all rock music than _Gimme Shelter._ It has a kind of perfect-moment-in-time quality to it like a 1964 Ford Mustang Fastback or _Casablanca_ or Robert E. Howard's Conan stories or _Miami Vice._ It's not just "really good," it has something more, an X factor that can't be predicted or accounted for or reproduced or quantified. It's ineffable, unexplainable. Everything came together to somehow elevate it above the rest. Thanks for this lesson.
Great lesson and playing thank you so much!! Im 51 and after dropping the guitar in my late teens ive been back at it the last 6-7 years thanks to lessons like this. Breaking this classic down thanks again from Edmonton

Very, very good instruction . Efficient and very accurate .Keith is a pain to learn and doesn't repeat riffs on certain songs like this one. . Nice that you give the necessary info and slow it down a little . Thanks
Just a BLAST to play. This one and CINNAMON GIRL are a couple of my favorites!! Definitely one of the greatest songs ever brother!! 💯% agree!! The intro is absolutely hypnotic. Even after easily a few thousand listens in my life.

Beautiful playing. No matter how many times I hear this song, the opening still cast a spell on me. Beyond a classic.
The greatest song ever written.
