Watching this now because with this Corona Virus Crisis going on, it's been impossible to find any all-purpose flour!! Thank you for the video. I will definitely invest in a milling machine soon!

Do you use a sieve to control the amount of bran that goes into the flour, to make 'white flour' when you need it? Or does the bran grind up enough that you can still easily make bread and pasta?

Thanks for your question! No, I do not use a sieve -- I use the flour "as is" to make breads & pastas. As you start experimenting with different grains, you'll find that certain flours lend themselves well to different types of baked goods (e.g., hard wheat works well in yeast breads, while soft wheat works well in quick breads).

Thank you. I tried to grind spelt in my food processor and that was an epic failure. So i need to get me a good grinding mill.

What happened to the follow up videos? I'm looking to get an electric mill, I have been looking at the Komo line and was wondering how fine the flour was that it produces. I currently use a Country living grain mill and I love how fine the flower comes out but sometimes I just don't have the time after work to mill the flour to make bread.

Thanks for your comment/suggestion! I will try to make another video that shows how fine the flour is.

I have one of these on the way because I'm going back into making sourdough and I believe this lovely freshly milled flour is especially good for sourdough loaves. Do you find it difficult to obtain fresh wheat grain and is it expensive? Thanks - a great demonstration !

I'm glad to hear that you found the video helpful!
With regard to your question, I have not found it difficult to obtain fresh wheat grain. I have been able to find wheat berries at my local food co-op, as well as online at Amazon.com. As for the price, it depends on the grain. For instance, I recently bought a 5-lb. bag of hard white wheat berries for $14, but a 1-lb. box of Einkorn cost me $8.
Good luck with your sourdough, & if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

      Thanks for your question!
I buy the majority of my grains from my local co-op store in the bulk foods section, but you can also buy grains online on websites, such as Amazon.

      Thanks for your question!
The cost of the hard white wheat berries used in this video depends on where you buy them. I recently purchased a 5-lb. bag of hard white wheat berries online for $14, but you might be able to find them cheaper in a bulk foods section at your local co-op or grocery store.
As for the cost of the grain mill, that depends on what model you buy. Prices range from around $30 for manual mills up to several hundred for brand-name electric mills.
