@@RandomPerson-ob1hk Stat wise the 107mm is better than the 152mm,but the 152mm is easier to use in general as it hits REALLY hard if it Pens no matter what Tier your fighting due to it being a 152mm Howitzer.

its still a interestening fact that Russia still got Armored Trains in service today. It makes sense for them bcs of how large the country is.
It's a remnant of the cold war, where nuclear missile trains were going around Russia the whole time, ready to strike back in the case of attack.
With modern weapons like guided rockets and bombs, trains are sitting ducks for attacks. Easy to spot and with no where to go you bet they would be first do be destroyed.
@@SuperDeinVadda no where to go? Trains can move very quickly in two directions.
Armoured trains are very useful for protecting train stations and rail lines. Becuase it's such a large country, Russia uses trains to transport goods, so protecting train stations and rail lines is very important.
@@Kyle-gw6qp You're only partly right about the movement. Yes, a train can move relatively quickly forwards or backwards, but it can't change directions quickly. The average freight train takes well over a mile to stop, and some time to get moving again. While I'm sure an armored train won't weigh quite that much, it will still be immensely heavy and take quite a bit of real estate to stop and get moving again.
@@DeathHead1358 perhaps but that doesn't mean the trains aren't useful. I've outlined why they are in my previous comment.
@Mogatys two things:
1) Russia has different needs to most other countries due to its heavy reliance on rail transport.
2) Whoever is in charge of military decisions in Russia thought that spending millions on armoured trains is worth it, I trust their professional opinion.

The train was certainly a more stable platform for that turret, and it makes me wonder if the gun might have fared better on one of the KV-1's competitors, the T-100 or SMK. Both were much heavier chassis and designed to be more top-heavy for those elevated main turret rings, which the MTB turret wouldn't need, as it would clear the forward turret on a flat top. As well those forward 45mm guns would be rather more useful to such a design than they were for battle tanks.
The germans even over engineered a training dummy
Ok hear me out, 1:18 looks like handsome Squidward on the turret.
Is it just me ?
Nah that's your profile picture 100%
I kinda saw it, but only after you mentioned it.
Oh please do a video on a kv-3, kv-4, and kv-5. I would love to know their history and why they were cancelled.
Their history was mercifully short and they were cancelled for being heavy and unreliable trashy concepts of pre-war mentality.
Soviets went with lighter KV-1s and later IS series tanks for a reason
@@deptusmechanikus7362 the KV-1S was stupid, its armour wasn't enough to stop german guns that predate it, making it just a slower medium tank.
and to make matters worse, the IS-1 predates the KV-1S, the IS-1 turret (or as it was orginally called the KV-13) inspired the design for the KV-1S turret! instead of KV-1Ss they could have made KV-13s which share just as mutch in common with the orginal Kv-1s but are simply better layed out.
the KV-13 was based on improvements on the T-150 (ie the first kv-3 design and only Kv-3 prototype), meaning the KV-3 went somewhere (the IS series) while the KV-1S was a deadend (ending in the KV-85)
@@matthiuskoenig3378 kv 1s have less armor because its too heavy so it can cross bridges smh
@@matthiuskoenig3378 oh yeah, of course. It was obviously stupid. If only you were there to tell Soviet command that they should instead go with even heavier tank that overheated it's engine, killed it's transmission on the move and couldn't cross most bridges or just start producing new and untested designs like KV-13 halting production of KV-1s and T-34s for months costing the army hundreds and thousands of tanks when every single machine was so needed at the front they even sent overweight POS T-150 there instead of smelting it or scrapping for parts. If only they did all that WWII could've ended by Christmas. Oh wait, dirty heathen commies don't believe in Christmas. Never mind then.
Simple answers:
1: The kv cost too much and more variants would just increase it
2: the IS was in development and it was more promising

3:02 - didn't in one of the tests of the 122mm cannon the muzzle brake exploded, hurting a high ranking office making him oppose the cannon but Stalin insisted on it since it would be put on the IS tank (that had Stalin's name on it)?
The first version of the muzzle brake for 122 mm gun D-25T installed on the IS chasse did explode during testing ALMOST hitting comrade Peter Voroshilov, but he didn't oppose the cannon, he opposed the muzzle brake design. Stalin had nothing to do with the decision to install a 122 mm cannon on a tank, because it was the only available gun at that moment with the sufficient armor penetrating capabilities (there was also a 100 mm D-10T gun which was tested and proved to be superior in every aspect, but there was not enough AP rounds for it in supply and production and switching production from 122 mm to 100 mm shells was impossible during the war as it would lead to massive shortages of rounds for both guns). Some photos with the prototype muzzle breaks warspot.ru/11233-is-s-tyazhyolym-vooruzheniem

@@trololoev NIET! A drunk Russian is a better Russian!
quick question: what tank couldnt the KV-zis 6 penetrate at a kilometer range??? the whole german arsenal was pretty poorly armored at that time
At the time of its creation, nothing the Germans had could really bounce a shot. Later in the war with the Panther and Tigers could bounce the shot to only the Tiger 2 was completely immune to the zis 6 at long range
@@alecritchie5669 don't forget tank destroyers with their well amored upperstructures like the jagdtiger and ferdinand/elephant and possibly even the jagdpanther.
@@bankhanger2 didn’t forget just casmates aren’t usually too much different than their normal counterparts
@@bankhanger2 the jagdtiger would be the only immune one. The jagdpanther would be able to bounce shots at specific conditions. And the ferdinand would fare as good as the tiger 1, which is to say it would get penetrated.

Recalling his experience in My Early Life, Churchill wrote "Nothing looks more formidable and impressive than an armoured train; but nothing is in fact more vulnerable and helpless. It was only necessary to blow up a bridge of culvert to leave the monster stranded, far from home and help, at the mercy of the enemy".
Churchill was on a armored train during the Boer war. The train was attacked and he got captured.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armoured_train#Second_Boer_War
-----
There are a lot of examples of armored trains being successfully used. Mostly on defense. Using the train on offense (like the train Churchill was on) is trickier.

I don't know why if I watch ur videos are so cool because coldest water supports ur videos.
I like the idea that the Axis forces ended up waiting lots of resources to take out the armoured train even if this was unintentional on the part of the soviets. Wasting time, effort and resources is often overlooked in warfare!
Maybe you could make the next cursed by design on some of the American heavy tanks such as the m6a1, T34, and T32.

thank you very much for the show, question i have been trying to find a pic of a destroyed kv2 turret that show's the barrel and breech block split open.
Cone: the 107mm gun was capable of knocking out any tank on the barrel field.

The 107mm gun was indeed capable of knocking out any tank it would face, as it would never face late war or post-war tanks

Disclaimer: I am not an AFV expert. I merely have an interest in topic dating back over 5 decades.
The 107mm Zis 6 was derived from a Schneider Piece used at the corps level by post-Tsarist Russia/CCCP. It was looked into as the main gun for the upcoming KV3 project and that's why you see it (in feasibility studies) mounted in a KV2 turret. This gun might've been mounted in the Object 220. It had two piece ammunition. It was available during the KV3/HF3 program (1940-42).
The Zis 6 is a completely different weapon than the 100mm D10-S (derived from a naval piece) used in SU 100. This much more efficient gun (using 1 piece ammunition) did not appear until 1944.
As far as I know, the D10-S 100mm gun was never tested in a KV2 turret.
