After plugging reference cables You get -4.75 dBm power on OPM. It is higher value (higher level) than -5.0 what means that 2 reference cables amplify the signal by 0,25 dB. It consider this as a loss the meter should show -5,25 dBm.
This reference method is not the preferred 1-jumper reference. Keep that in mind and look this up as well, before you make this your default practise of testing.
My thought as well. Reference to a test cable (so you include inevitable connector losses), then swap that out for your cable under test. Then you're comparing just the fiber.
Love your content. Considering a job in telecom after being away for a decade and these videos are a great refresher for me.
Glad to help! There's definitely a lot of opportunity now in the field. Best of luck!

same here. very confusing
same here, very confusing
Is the power meter measuring the direct loss after referencing lunch and receive cable or it is measuring the received power of -0.19?
Does your OPM MEASURE DIRECTLY? YOU DONT NEED TO DO A SUBTRACTION?
How to register to follow your training?
How to test with otdr leser and power meter
