  • As is annual practice for their 'Diesel Gala', the Swanage Railway held a 'Preview Day' the day before the gala gets underway, featuring a mix of traction to whet the appetite for the following event. This year, D1015 "Western Champion" would be joined by resident Bulleid pacific 34028 "Eddystone" for the majority of the days' services.
Arriving during the day would be Class 37 - 37219, appearing courtesy of Colas Railfreight. In addition, Class 33 - D6515 and Class 69 - 69002 would double-head 'The Jurassic Crompton' railtour onto the railway hauling Class 438 4TC - 428, with Class 73 - 73109 in tow. Once arrived, Class 33 - 33111 would be paired with the 4TC for two return trips through the Isle of Purbeck in the afternoon.
Unlike most previous years, the 'Preview Day' didn't have an exact theme. However, with the regular services being operated by a Class 52, Class 33, and a Bulleid pacific, the day had a strong Exeter feel.

Excellent video, thanks for sharing. Well done to the Swanage Railway for putting on another excellent preview day and event. D1015 is awesome, luckily got to travel right behind it, fantastic loco 😊 Just my opinion, but I thoroughly dislike the LT 4TC, cramped, smelly, hot and stuffy, and bars on the windows ruining filming for customers. I get the nostalgic push-pull, but not for me !

Such a cool railway. No wonder it's the one that began my interest in UK trains. Aye! And the Devon Belle Observation car on the first train! YAS!

4TC with a 33, bit of a long lost sight in the Purbecks, shame about the LT camouflage, rather spoilt the nostalgia!! ☹️ Nice little warm up there Matthew, thank you 👍👍👍🙂.

It's always lovely to see the old southern region multiple system at work, especially with a TC. A shame about the colour, true. But one day the Swanage Railway's own TC may play that role.
      Glad you enjoyed it, Bob!
