Don't worry if you can't get into folk punk you're probably just someone with a little bit of ambition and self respect. That being said I love folk punk

This song is actually one of the ones that gives me hope. The concept that truly believing that the world & humanity is awful and rotten to the core, clinging to that belief can and will kill you, and recognizing that and understanding you need to at least *try* to believe we can good, that life can be good, in order to make room for it at all. Dunno if that makes sense, but that really deeply resonated with me, even though the addiction themes totally miss me. I remember the worst years of my life were, at least partially because, I was grappling with how horrific humans & the world can be. It was only when I started *trying* to believe that humans, and life, can be good that I started to have more room in my life for happiness. It just felt like lying to myself for a long while, but… it honestly helped. Hopefully that makes sense 😂 Thanks for reacting to this with an open mind! Folk punk is 100% not for everybody. I mostly enjoy it because of how sincere & honest the songs tend to be. I really like that

I am not sure if this version of the song was specifically requested, but the full band version of this song (by Ramshackle Glory) I feel is easier listening, and is a lot more interesting musically. It's personal preference, but you may enjoy that one more.

I've always been a bigger fan of just pat and a guitar, ramshackle definitely strikes a tune for other people

I love that you're doing Pat reactions, but y'all are doing yourselves a disservice by listening to the Die the Nightmare (acoustic) versions of these songs. This one especially needs a full band behind it, which it has on Live the Dream.

I agree, for a first one. However, contextually, after diving into all of Pat’s band’s discographies this version speaks to me more. I have The Volatile Utopian Real Estate Market on vinyl with Die The Nightmare and it came with a paperback book with Pat writing about each song.

I feel like you guys have been getting all of Pat's darker stuff.
Maybe if you want to give him another chance, try something from the period of time when he played as Wingnut Dishwashers Union. He had some more upbeat songs at the time, with a sense of humor in them even.
If you're up for it, could you react to either:
Wingnut Dishwashers Union - Jesus Does the Dishes (the version with the full band playing, based on your other folk punk reactions I think you'll actually really enjoy this one)
    or
Wingnut Dishwashers Union - Sellout Song (personally, I think it's the best song he ever wrote)

Pat was a true anarchist. His lyrics are strongly based upon books and essays based upon anarchism and living in a free, self sustaining society. “We’ll get arrested or shot “ is a prime example. We live in a time when we need Pat. If anyone knows or sees him, tell him we love him. ❤

You dont connect with this because you grew up in a stable home. You literally cant talk about this, you never understood the struggle.
Its just hard to convay the struggle to people like you who grew up living the decent life. I truly hope you never have to deal with the struggle of us poor people. I can tell for a fact you never ate a sugar sandwich, I hope you never have to understand that struggle my friend. Just enjoy how lucky you are.
