Fortifications are built further behind the border with Russia Ukraine would be foolish to build the right on the border as Russia will shell them as they're constructed. The videos of the staggering Russia losses suggest Ukraine was in fact prepared, the land Russia has taken in a shame and will need taking back but in the war that land has zero strategic value.

I will say if the Russians can't reinforce this new front because they keep having more lines to hold, assuming 50k men are able to be grinded down at the current rate, I am assuming based on the last most recent losses count 1.3k, and the additional 4-600 it will probably be grinded down quickly if Kharkiv becomes a bigger bahkmut but I doubt the Russians can do that considering the size of the city if some village or two doesn't serve the role as the Russians seem stubborn on throwing these half-meat assaults to build up forces on a position and then advance again. They didn’t. Russian artillery on the boarder had about a 25km range so Ukraine didn’t build defense lines within 25 km from the border. That’s why they took those villages. But at the cost of 1740 men

One excuse as to the lack of fortifications is that the engineering teams were highly exposed to RuZZian artillery. Not defending that but this is what I heard.

Sorry but the lack of strong defenses on Kharkiv/Russia border goes directly to Zaluzhny. He was the one in charge of AFU for most of past 2 years, and if he required bunkers and mines to be built, and they were not, that is his responsibility. He often visited frontlines, and in 2 years should have, at least once, visited the building of fortifications in northern Kharkiv to see the progress. Wonder if this was one of the reasons he was replaced?

Yep, it seems highly unlikely that someone didn't see the state of the defenses in that area for 18 months. So, either there are plenty of people in that area that wouldn't mind being taken over by Russia or this was deliberately done. I can think of a number of reasons why Ukraine would leave that area open. I guess we shall see in time.
Might not be deliberate per se. The Ukraine military still has a lot of old school, Soviet style brass up top. They're modernising as fast as they can, but there's bound to be some inbuilt incompetence still left. I can very well picture some local commander enjoying all the perks of his rank, but not bothering to put in any work, and just delegating everything downstream. And when the neighbor "suddenly" came knocking, he didn't know what to do because he'd never even learned anything as a junior officer.

Sorry but the lack of strong defenses on Kharkiv/Russia border goes directly to Zaluzhny. He was the one in charge of AFU for most of past 2 years, and if he required bunkers and mines to be built, and they were not, that is his responsibility. He often visited frontlines, and in 2 years should have, at least once, visited the building of fortifications in northern Kharkiv to see the progress. Wonder if this was one of the reasons he was replaced?

Yep, it seems highly unlikely that someone didn't see the state of the defenses in that area for 18 months. So, either there are plenty of people in that area that wouldn't mind being taken over by Russia or this was deliberately done. I can think of a number of reasons why Ukraine would leave that area open. I guess we shall see in time.
Might not be deliberate per se. The Ukraine military still has a lot of old school, Soviet style brass up top. They're modernising as fast as they can, but there's bound to be some inbuilt incompetence still left.
I can very well picture some local commander enjoying all the perks of his rank, but not bothering to put in any work, and just delegating everything downstream. And when the neighbor "suddenly" came knocking, he didn't know what to do because he'd never even learned anything as a junior officer.

It's a Soviet trained military govt country That means filing glowing reports & not questioning them.
Ukraine must request & West INSIST on advisors for virtually every govt head, military officer & report at least weekly.

Id say this is a massive Ukrainian command AND others in Leadership for not even verifying that things are in order with defense lines Especially on the border but everywhere else on the battlefield as well. Ukraine and those in charge have had ample time to build defense lines everywhere. Its showing that they have failed to do this in the last two years and its really too bad nobody has done anything.
