Dear god - Iived in Altadena for around 17 years. I used to go to Steve's Pets all the time. My home was about 4 minutes from these places. There is zero possibility that my old home survived this hell. My heart goes out to each and every person in these communities. If you've been fortunate enough to have never experienced the hot and violent Santa Ana winds, you are fortunate. They come multiple times per year and are absolutely terrifying. Combined with this wind, the fire is unstoppable. I now live in Bakersfield. I was devastated when I had to move here 10 years ago, but I now realize it was a blessing in disguise. This makes me so sad for all of the people and pets harmed by this hell. I can no longer make sense of this world.

California regulations makes covering homeowners too expensive. It is not the homeowners doing, it is the lack of safe guards from the State and the rules, regulations, and all the different things the State of California demands for the insurance companies.

I have a BS in Range Management from Montana State University. I worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 31 years in natural resources. I was in wildland fire w/20 person Montana Indian Firefighter crews from 1987 - 2001. We went to several fires in Redding, Big Bear, Orange Co and San Juan Capistrano. Love and prayers to all that are fighting these fires and those who have been affected.

I also remember reading and article years and years ago of how California fired all the experienced forestry people and replaced them with affirmative action folk who had no damn clue of how to maintain the forest. As a family they would walk to their favorite public library on Christmas Tree Lane, where my grandbaby would check out 20 books at a time. Nature can take away in a day what humans spend a lifetime to build.

Fire embers tend to land on roofs in eaves, thus making their way under the roof. Take it from there.
