  • One of the best places to focus on the rider is on the lunge line. This video includes and intro by Bernie Traurig who is a big believer in this exercise. Val Renihan explains the many benefits that are achieved with this type of lesson, including enhancing the rider’s feel, strength and flexibility. She incorporates different exercises that increase the rider’s stability in the tack, encourage the independence of the arms and seat, and build suppleness and core strength.

I was taught to ride minus stirrups. Our instructor had us lie down on the bareback horse. We laid on our backs on top the bareback horse.
We practiced various things to learn balance. Taught how to roll if falling off. Proper position of body & legs. Same with hands. Proper mounting/dismounting. Etc. Professional training is a plus.
    This is a good post.
You see so many bad riders. You feel sorry for the horse.

people need to get over that lunge lessons aren't just for beginners because I still have lunge lessons and i am not beginner and i love doing lunge lessons because they really help my position and balance and also helps me not always use the reins

I love some of the exercises but i would do more posting trot before sitting, lunge line off the floor and i would run stirrups up and across so they dont bash the side of the horse.

I think the top four at medal finals, instead of swapping horses, should have to give each other a lunge lesson! ha ha.

Why is the rider wearing Spurs during a longe lesson?

    • @binatitagain

Sometimes a lunge lesson is the perfect opportunity to learn how to steady the leg and to focus on your spurs instead of what the horse and hands/reins are doing!:)

Normally I'm not a fan of side reins or lunging with a bit but this looks super fair towards the horse!
