I learned something today with the transfer punch trick. That was an awesome build, too. I liked the fact that it was completed with paint and everything. Wishing you much success in all your endeavors. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skill. Aloha!
Nice Job I have two large Wilton Vise I got from a lady after I done some electrical repairs she pulled them out of an old shed said her late husband had them their for years but never did anything with them she asked if I could use them to make an offer I ended up giving her ten bucks for each one . It's people like you that got me into watching You tube now I know how I'm going to mount them myself. Thank's you do nice work.
Hey Ernie, thank you. That is a great find, hard to find those at a decent price for an every day joe. I've found them in the past but everyone wanted about the new price for them. Glad your going to do it your self. That is music to my ears. I am going to do a video of the vice stand where I do some upgrades. (Tool holder, wheels) Should be a good video. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe if you haven't already.
Nice Job! I'm in the process of assembling the materials to build a stand like your "H" beam stand, but mine will be for a bench size drill press. As far as my big 6 inch Vise, I got lucky. The Mining Company that I worked for, when they shut down operations and dismantled their big Welding Shop, I got the stand that their large Vise had been mounted on.
Thank you Virginia. I really enjoy mine, I need to make it a little more heavy and add some wheels. I plan on making another video for the upgrades. Thanks for watching, Please subscribe if you haven't already.
I have been scrounging to find the scraps to build two similar stands for my shop. One for the grinder and one for the bench top drill press. All, in all, really nice.
Great work! They look awesome. I drive an 18 wheeler for work. I seen one of these 18 wheeler hubs sitting around the shop and the mechanic let me bring one home. I thought it would be a perfect bench grinder stand. Will be making it soon.
Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im making one using an old brake disc from a Chevy C-60 truck. However im gonna add a plate to the top that will accept my tubing bender and a mighty brake to bend sheet metal with locking them down with some old very strong action clamps I have, so I can interchange those two faster and easier. I drilled 4 holes through the rotor surface and have drilled holes in my thick concrete floor of my shop and added some hefty deep anchors in the same drill pattern. I added 2 wheels I picked up at Tractor Supply and added a handle to the post. The wheels sit about 2" off the surface of the floor and all I will have to do is tilt it back for the wheels to contact the floor and I can roll it out of my fabrication area when not in use. I will secure it in its spot when using it with 4, 1" grade 8 bolts. I bought 4, 1" 1/2 drive impact sockets on the very cheap at Harbor Freight tools and welded them to the bolt heads and, will use my impact gun to fasten it to the floor. This video you made was the inspiration for my project. Thanks your awesome!
Hey Andrew Thank you very much. That sounds like an awesome build!! Send photos. You can get my email address from the About tab on my RUclips channel. Glad I inspired you. Thanks for watching.
Nice build. Is there an advantage to bolting to the brake drums as opposed to just welding on to them? I would think that drilling 10 large holes is a PITA. How many occasions would there be where you would actually unbolt the brake drums from the risers?
Hey Part Time those look great as well as functional and I lived through the music forget the music haters that's why they have mute for the music haters, great job you are a master
I'm gonna build one . I've got a vice in my shop on the bench and one that mounts in a 2inch receiver hitches. this looks like it'd be great for outside random jobs
wow they look great. your skills with the torch and welding are wonderful. The spray can though can be improved. I suggest Klascoat two part epoxy paint with a spray gun from Harbor Freight. I shoot rc airplanes with Klascoat and its impervious to gasoline and glow fuel. Great Stuff. Keep up the good work! When reading the comments I can't believe people and how mean they can be?
Hey Rhshel, thank you for the compliments. I'll take a look at the paint. We just got a harbor freight here. Good to know the fuel doesn't bother the paint. I love RCs stuff. I raced trucks and buggies for several years; many year ago though. Losi and Traxxas were my two vehicles. Never really got in to planes but I had some friends who were. Awesome stuff. Takes a lot of skill to fly. yea, the comments are bad at times. The internet is full of trolls :-) Thanks for the comments and watching!
+cat637d Hey Cat637d, glad you like them. Mine has been awesome. I think it needs to be a little heavier but still a great tool. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe if you haven't already.
Nothing at all wrong with Plasma. but its $350 versus $1500. I know you can get plasma torches cheaper but I got one of the better brands for OxyFuel torches and one of the better brands for plasma is about $1500. Thanks
Sorry I missed your video of making the vise stand they look really good I have to find the video because I would like to make one keep up the good work bill
Good Job. Ive been wanting to build one of those for my brother. About the music...I dont mean any harm but just like a good steak doesnt need any sauce your good video doesnt need the music for me to like it! Thanks.
Thanks JD. Yea, I think the music is gone from future videos. Everyone seems to dislike it. Thanks for watching and the comment. Thanks again, please subscribe if you haven't already.
I just adjusted the audio, I thought it was fun, didn't bother me a bit, I was too wrapped up in welding skills. I have welding equipment but need lots of practice! GREAT STUFF
PTF, that was very cool. and great video man ,thank you for taking the time to do these videos. its nice to see someone who takes pride in what they are doing , it shows in your work.and it is very much welcomed here. thank you again .
Nice builds. I made pocket type, square tubes in floor to hold them. Next time you use a socket for centering, maybe drop a couple nuts in socket, might get it close without fiddling. I have a lathe, wouldnt be without it now.
Thanks Frank. That is a great idea about the nuts. I wish I had a lathe, that is on the wish list. Everything I find is too big. Found a nice lathe for only $1000 buck and it was 30 minutes away. Only problem is it was 10 feet long. Next time I guess. Thanks!
Nice job, can u tell me what size drill u used for the circle plate & what was the thickness of the plate. And can u tell me the size of the bolts u used to mount plate. I want to make one for my little shop/garage. again nice job
Hey Brad, thank you. Drill size; I am unsure. I think I used 1 inch or 1-1/4 inch. However, I wouldn't drill them. I would flame cut them. The plate thickness was 3/8. Bolts were 1 inch I think. I selected the bolts by what those fancy caps fit. You really only need 4 bolts - about 3/4 would be nice, with flat washers top and bottom plus some lock washers. Quick and dirty is to forget bolting it. I would weld it. You can buy some Blue Demon Cast Arc. It will weld mild steel to the Cast Drum. You can buy 5 LB for $15 to $20 bucks. I purchased 3 more drums. I'm going to make another video soon. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe if you haven't already.
Hey Stretch, thanks. Center punch did worked well but after all the time it took I should have just used a Oxy/Fuel torch to cut the holes. I wanted it to look nice though. Their were two reason I didn't want to weld. Drum are cast and I wasn't real sure about welding to it. I know it will weld but it could be brittle. second, I wanted to be able to adjust the height of the vise should it need to be lowered. Which I did need to do on my vise stand. Thanks for watching.
I've got two of these dang drums sitting in my front yard. Hoping to make them into grinder stands but I've held off thinking they will walk around. Did not necessarily want to strap them down.
I absolutely would use one or both of them to make a vice or grinder stand. One of the best tools in my shop for sure. I am going to put wheels on mine very soon. I will video that when I do it. Wheels are a must I have learned. Look at my other video on Universal Stand. It very useful as well. ruclips.net/video/PkXly9iWjtU/видео.html
+Tommy Lee Thank Tommy. It certainly takes practice to get good with the torch. I don't have a video yet but I think its a great idea. Thanks for watching
Hey unclefrankonap1953 , The guy told me it was off a coal truck and its fairly stable. I think it I had put 3 feet on it stability wouldn't be an issue. I plan on making another video for "Vise stand upgrades". That will be part of that video. Work has just been tough lately.
I just bolted mine to my bench, took me 5 minutes and my truck still has rear brakes! JK! Looks good man, I could see many great uses for one of those.
Hey Matt, Thank you! Yes, very true. Did you watch my other stand video? Its a quick change stand, grinder and tubing notching switch out. ruclips.net/video/7TpWIqzkzxQ/видео.html I think they weight about 80LBs, they are super heavy. Hey Joe, I thought it had a cleaner look putting the plate on the bottom. I knew I wouldn't put a nice round cut on the plate so I hide it. The bolts have plenty of strength to hold all the pounding. Thanks for watching!
+Valient Six Hey Valient - Thanks I really enjoyed this build. I may be making another soon but not for sure yet. Primer first? I did, it was a dark red primer. Checkout timestamp 13:40 for stand #1 and 15:11 for stand#2. (rustoleum red oxide primer) Thanks for watching! Please subscribe if you haven't already.
Oh I figured you just used red paint cus you didnt specify your steps for painting , good job man , thats awesome oxide is awesome for rust prevention . They look amazing .
+Valient Six Oh yea, I should tell more details about what I am doing. Thanks. The Rustoleum really does a great job on rust prevention. I have sprayed lightly rusted items before an they are fine months later.
paint is the killer of the corrosion process , take out the water or oxygen and metal can not rust . Aluminum is cool because it creates its own rust proof layer ontop .
very nice build they turned out great. eco mouse said you took to long. i dont know how he can tell that in an 18 min video lol. obvously he isint much of a metal fabricator as he has no idea how time cosuming it takes to layout- cut-fit weld-paint and assemble these 2 exellent vice stands. exellent job bud thanks.
Hey Jamie, Thank you. Welding/FabWork does take a long time for sure and it sure if fun. I haven't been able to do much video work the last few months. My day job and fab job have been taking lots of time. I hope to get back on the wagon soon. Thanks again and please subscribe if you haven't already.
Wow, they look great, you are pretty talented. Let me know if you live near Naples Fl, is so I'd love to purchase one from you. Thanks and thanks for sharing this video with us. 😎
Hey Frank, thank you for accolades. It is very appreciated. I am sorry I don't leave very close. I am about 13 hours away. I do enjoy sharing my work. I love watching what others have done, that was my motivate. Thanks for watching!!
A couple things I'd do to speed up the process would be to make or buy a circle cutting jig to cut out the base circle. Also I'd torch out the bolt holes in the round base instead of drilling them.
+2 AM - Hey 2AM - All great suggestions. I plan on buying a circle cutting jig but I want to wait until I get a plasma cutter. I hope to get one soon. I think it would be a great addition to my shop. Thanks for the advice. Couldn't agree more. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe if you haven't already.
Hey they look great but I doubt they are very stable. I would hate to be working on something heavy and have it fall on me.Did you bother to test them to see how much weight they will hold safely? Length of work piece before it hits a tipping point?
Hey K. Nelson, they are fairly stable. The only issue I have come across is when I am filing metal; they move some. Putting 3 feet on them or cutting feet out of the drum would help that; so I've been told by other folks. As for your comment "Did you bother to test...". No, I didn't, I never intending them to hold extremely long or heavy objects. From using them I think you would have to put a very large object in there to make it flip over though. Something that large and heavy would most likely not fit in the jaws anyway. Really I wouldn't try to fit something that big, I would realize that big heavy widget may turn this over. Thanks for the comments!
Hey Harley, Me either. I did take welding and mechanics in trade school but I do something different for my career. I am more of a metal worker/welder enthusiast now. I do sharpen my own drills. Let me tell you.... it is hard. I don't do it a lot. It would really take a video to explain it fully. I can make one but their are some good ones out there. Search youtube. If you think I need to make one, let me know. I do use a tool to help me. See this link. ( amzn.to/2fyqhWI ) Thanks for watching, Please subscribe if you haven't already.
Part-Time Fabrication Yes I was right. I know because I have had them too in the past. I use to weld and make almost anything that I needed or wanted. But now days I just use the old lincoln 225 stick when I need to. I want to get a wire feed like yours. Eastwood has a Mig, tig, stick, all in one for a great price. They say they are good welders but I have never used one and do not know anyone who has had one. Maybe you could do a segment on just welders alone. That would be good.
+Terry Sibley - Thanks Terry. I've got so much response on this video I'm thinking about doing some upgrades. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe if you haven't already.
+Terry Sibley - The main reason I bolted them was in case I wanted to shorten the top. Which I did on my vise stand. I put four 2 inch spaces on my vise. The secondary reason was it looks good. You should just as easily weld them together.
Hey Mark, Thank you very much. Glad you like the build. Lots of folks have watched this video, I think I may do another very soon. Its been a while since I've built these but I am almost positive I was using Bluedemon ER70S-6 and C25. Here lately I've been doing a lot of Arc Welding so when I do the next video I might use E7018 and maybe some E6010. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe if you haven't already!
what kind of drums are those ? i might have to build my rendering design like yours but to my style twist with extra holders for tools on the sides away from vice work area btw awesome job and subscribed
Hey Thanks Jose Esposito - These really are great tools. I seem to use them almost ever time in am in the shop. I am loving that I made them higher than your typical work bench too. I don't have to bend over so much and I can see things because they are higher. Plus I can quickly move them over to the door for more sun light. Thanks for watching!!
I learned something today with the transfer punch trick. That was an awesome build, too. I liked the fact that it was completed with paint and everything. Wishing you much success in all your endeavors. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skill. Aloha!

Very nice, clean & simple way to keep a vice accessible in your shop.
Thank you Virginia. I really enjoy mine, I need to make it a little more heavy and add some wheels. I plan on making another video for the upgrades.

For what you have to work with they came out nice !! I wood be proud too have them in my shop!!!
Thanks gizzo123us . I've got several comments on how good they look. My buying was amazed. Could pay me quick enough. Thanks for watching!!
Great work, l did mine with RSJ, half inch top welded on, the sunk in 15" concrete, no vibration at all.
I congratulate you, you are a great cutter, welder and you have good ideas, ideas that serve.
Thank you Jaime
Nice build. Is there an advantage to bolting to the brake drums as opposed to just welding on to them? I would think that drilling 10 large holes is a PITA. How many occasions would there be where you would actually unbolt the brake drums from the risers?
Very nice, I need to make one to for grinding outdoors instead of getting the shop all messy.
Thanks Hubjeep. Yea grinders make a LOT of dust. Good Luck!
I like the effort you put in your project the finished work is first class.
Thank you Juan
Hay man I used my air chisel on that heave rust on the drums .. Loud as hell but knocks the heavy rust off fast !!! Thanks for the vid !!
Thanks Herbert! If I do another video I will pass along this information.
Wear ear protection. Air chisels can knock your head around pretty good with the loud noise. PT Fabrication, you should get a powerplasma cutter.
Willy Jacobson I agree with both. Absolutely! Thanks
Hey Part Time those look great as well as functional and I lived through the music forget the music haters that's why they have mute for the music haters, great job you are a master
Thanks Augustine Sullivan! Glad you like the video.
Best design in my opinion, got myself a drum from the junkyard to start
Hey 1991tommygun, that sounds great! Good luck
Good video. Your final product reflects conscientiousness.
+Robert Johnson Thank you very much Robert 👍
I'm gonna build one . I've got a vice in my shop on the bench and one that mounts in a 2inch receiver hitches. this looks like it'd be great for outside random jobs
Indeed, it is very mobile. I plan on putting some wheels on mine very soon.
wow they look great. your skills with the torch and welding are wonderful. The spray can though can be improved. I suggest Klascoat two part epoxy paint with a spray gun from Harbor Freight. I shoot rc airplanes with Klascoat and its impervious to gasoline and glow fuel. Great Stuff. Keep up the good work!

Very nice work! I would be proud to have either one in my workshop!
+cat637d Hey Cat637d, glad you like them. Mine has been awesome. I think it needs to be a little heavier but still a great tool.
Thanks for watching. Please subscribe if you haven't already.
GREAT JOB !
Was glad to see you using a cutting torch instead of a plasma cutter !!
Thank you John. I love the torch but I would love to have a plasma too. I just purchased a new Victor torch kit. Works great!
Thanks for watching!
WTF..... Why? What is wrong with plasma. 21st century now.
Nothing at all wrong with Plasma. but its $350 versus $1500. I know you can get plasma torches cheaper but I got one of the better brands for OxyFuel torches and one of the better brands for plasma is about $1500.
Thanks
Tandemwings Plasma needs a power source and air compressor and can't be taken everywhere as easily as a cutting torch can be !!
Sorry I missed your video of making the vise stand they look really good I have to find the video because I would like to make one keep up the good work bill
Fantástico! Se ve bastante fuerte!. Encantada de hacerlo si tuviera maquina de soldar
Nice job! Thanks for sharing! 🤙🏻
Appreciate your videos. Getting some good ideas for future projects. I'm total noobie and need all the help I can get.
Hey +Jim Smith You are very welcome. Home you enjoy. Thanks for watching
Hey Chris, thank you for the kind words. I enjoy working in the shop and sharing with others. Glad you enjoyed the video.

Great idea. Like the guitar riffs.
Thanks Enrique Mendoza . I love the music as well but most viewers hate it. :-(

Super ! Les bonnes idées c'est bien , mais faut reconnaître que tu es outillé!
Great Job....nice build...clean work, very nice work.
Thank you Scott. Much appreciated.
Looks good and great music!!
Nice work! They really turned out good.
+Rattletrap2 Thanks Rattletrap - Those guys who got them were very happy.
Thanks for watching
great job, from an old ASME Certified Welder
Hey Larry, thank you Sir.
Thanks for watching.
Part-Time Fabrication nice torch work
Steady hand. I need to use a standoff with my powerplasma cutter or I shake like a leaf.
Thanks Steven. Really appreciate that. Thanks for watching

Great job, I really like the way you put them together. Thanks for the video.
Thank you Gary!
Wow these are wonderful stands!!
Thanks Jo. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe if you haven't already.
What size bolts did you use on the lower base? What size holes did you drill for the lower base? I really like your design.
Great idea with center punch.
Wondering though, why not just weld the plates to the drums?
Nice job.
You done well.
Great job. I learned a lot from watching. Thank you for taking the time to post it.
Hey Tom, your very welcome. I hope to post more in the future. Been a lot going on at work. Thanks!
I've got two of these dang drums sitting in my front yard. Hoping to make them into grinder stands but I've held off thinking they will walk around. Did not necessarily want to strap them down.
I absolutely would use one or both of them to make a vice or grinder stand. One of the best tools in my shop for sure.

Cool projects! I think I need practice cutting with a torch! Any video on cutting technique and setup? It's hit or miss with mine.
+Tommy Lee Thank Tommy. It certainly takes practice to get good with the torch. I don't have a video yet but I think its a great idea.
Thanks for watching
Very nice. Looks good and I am sure it's functional.
Thank you!
It is indeed very functional.
Nice work with the torch !
Thank you Sir
It's a clever design. I really like them. Keep up the good work.
Thanks VHO TECH. Will do. Thanks for watching
Great video. Good information on how to.
+Robert Meuser Thanks Robert. Glad you enjoyed it.

real nice job what kind of break drum is that off of. is it pretty stable like the portablity
Hey unclefrankonap1953 , The guy told me it was off a coal truck and its fairly stable. I think it I had put 3 feet on it stability wouldn't be an issue. I plan on making another video for "Vise stand upgrades". That will be part of that video. Work has just been tough lately.
How can I get you to make me one. I especially like the black one with the “I” beam for a post. Do you have a website where you sell them?
Nice torch job on the plate steel
Thank you
I just bolted mine to my bench, took me 5 minutes and my truck still has rear brakes! JK! Looks good man, I could see many great uses for one of those.
Hey Mad Jeeper, absolutely one of the best tools I have in my shop. I use it every time I'm in the shop.
Thanks for watching
Great work !! You really go the extra mile to do a neat job . Keep it up and God bless !!!

Pretty elaborate 👍
I build all my benches high enough so I don’t have to bend over to work. Saves wear and tear on my old body
Thanks Rocken Roller, the stand I have works really well. I hear you on the height. I try to make them high as well.
Thanks for watching
Great stands! When I look at them I see bench grinder stands though. How much do those brake drums weigh?
Hey Matt, Thank you! Yes, very true. Did you watch my other stand video? Its a quick change stand, grinder and tubing notching switch out. ruclips.net/video/7TpWIqzkzxQ/видео.html
I think they weight about 80LBs, they are super heavy. Sad part is I am trying to make them even heavier. LOL

I got one question.
why didn't you put the plate on top of the drums instead of underneath. Thanks
Hey Joe, I thought it had a cleaner look putting the plate on the bottom. I knew I wouldn't put a nice round cut on the plate so I hide it. The bolts have plenty of strength to hold all the pounding.

Excelent Work, it´s perfect!!!! from Argentina
Thank you Marcelo. I am unsure of the measurement. I will check the "H" beam and message you back.
Excellent fabrication video. perfect project for a DIY'r.
Hey Fred, indeed, this is a great project and you have a extremely handy tool when your finished.
Thanks
Un trabajo expectacular felicidades saludos
Muchas gracias
A couple things I'd do to speed up the process would be to make or buy a circle cutting jig to cut out the base circle. Also I'd torch out the bolt holes in the round base instead of drilling them.
+2 AM - Hey 2AM - All great suggestions. I plan on buying a circle cutting jig but I want to wait until I get a plasma cutter. I hope to get one soon. I think it would be a great addition to my shop. Thanks for the advice. Couldn't agree more.

I am not a Metal worker but I really enjoyed watching you. Also wondering if you sharpen your Drill bits if so How?
Hey Harley, Me either. I did take welding and mechanics in trade school but I do something different for my career. I am more of a metal worker/welder enthusiast now.
I do sharpen my own drills. Let me tell you.... it is hard. I don't do it a lot. It would really take a video to explain it fully. I can make one but their are some good ones out there. Search youtube. If you think I need to make one, let me know.
I do use a tool to help me. See this link. ( amzn.to/2fyqhWI )

Great fabrication, Looks like you have taken a few welding classes in your time. lol. Welds not bad looking.
Thanks R. Yupe, had a few formal classes but several old times have passed along lots of instruction over the years. Thanks for watching!
Muito criativo, gostei parabéns
Thank you very much. Muito obrigado
Yes Sir very good video's , like your work.👍👍👍

Very nice really liked the video.
+Terry Sibley - Thanks Terry. I've got so much response on this video I'm thinking about doing some upgrades.

Your welcome. One question. We're they bolted to the base for any particular reason. Just wandering. Really liked the bolted look..
+Terry Sibley - The main reason I bolted them was in case I wanted to shorten the top. Which I did on my vise stand. I put four 2 inch spaces on my vise. The secondary reason was it looks good. You should just as easily weld them together.
Nice. Yeah I really liked the bolted look. And yes the easy way would have been to weld them. But sometimes easy isn't better.nice job.
The mute button - the greatest invention on the computer bar none.
Nice idea and great video. What does one of those complete, sell for??
Hey Randy, Thank you. I've sold them for 150 to 200 plus the cost of the vise.
wow great job and vid and job kudos , what was u using for mig wire and shield gas

Good and Neat work
Thank you Sreenivas
فكرة جميل جدا شكرا لك على هذه الصورة فديو رائع جدا
What is the total height with the code mounted on it?
Nice 😃
Awesome work - Need one of these myself.
Thanks for watching!!
show, era o canal que eu estava procurando!
Hola Altair Me alegra que lo hayas encontrado. Gracias.
Man, those are some phat guitar tones playing in the background. Which band is this? Nice job on the build!
Hey Bruce, I got the music from Pond5. See the video description for the artist.
