@@rd4501 you're wrong the Volt is very reliable there is a guy that works at the chevy volt plant he travels 200 miles a day to work and has more than 400k miles on the car zero problems , but plenty of Prius out there and cheaper
I'm in love with the idea of new stuff in old cars, but I'd at least keep it rear wheel drive and use a Mercedes or BMW set up. Shame you can't get speed equipment for Toyota Priuses.
@@SouthFlaDiver or better yet, the drivetrain from a RAV4 hybrid, those are All Wheel Drive. Regular Hybrid in the front, the rear axle powered by a separate electric motor.
So I want to put a Prius engine in my ‘76 bmw but there’s not many videos like this. I wish he gave more info. Like did he incorporate all the electrical components of the Prius? How did he set up the brakes that charge the battery? How old is the engine he used? I have so many questions but I know the videos old 😭

I have a Prius and use it like a truck. I want a truck but don’t want to pay $160 a week for gas vs the $30 I pay now. There are actually allot of people that want something like this, pretty awesome. I’d like to put the Prius drivetrain into a Tacoma but I’d never have the time to do something like this.
Love this. Thanks for doing it. Great idea. I was really curious about the drivetrain, but you kept the original fwd. There's not really an easy way to make it rwd unless you put the whole drivetrain in the rear. Or maybe go in and weld the output diff. But fwd trucks are really needed. Go with a really low rear deck!

I like this but it looks like the electronics are susceptible to moisture damage through the motor shroud vents so I have a feeling it's not taken out during rains.

Oh, I've considered doing it to one of my classic pickups as well. I don't drive them that far and they are secondary vehicles, so an EV or hybrid powertrain would be perfect.

If someone did this with a newer Prius or even a newer hybrid camry drivetrain, it would get 50+mpg and have some decent power. Probably more power than whatever it had in 1946
Wish you had more info on build. Stop sayin prius every word. Just say it uses a hybrid toyota powertrain. So what are final mpg on this vehicle? Where is the gas tank now - still behind seat? What model year prius was the donor vehicle? I see lots of classic vehicles for sale missing motor and trans. And i see lots of people selling old prius for next to nothing. This is the perfect mix if wire harness and structural changes can be simplified in a kit.

Dudu Fregoso many states offer a custom vehicle registration. You would just need to prove the vehicle is roadworthy. I would think, then, you can specify the plates you would like.

In California any vehicle 1975 and older is smog exempt. This would be a perfect example. I would probably do this in a 1975 or older sedan and add additional electric motors on the rear to make it awd.
@@sergioknuf Sorry, not sure. It isn't like there is a guide out there. Just need to figure out the Prius wheelbase measurement and look around. Trucks didn't start getting bigger until the 1980s. So, I'd say anything 40s, 50s, 60s or maybe 70s would be possible. The big thing to realize is how loud the truck will be after the conversion. Those trucks were meant to have a loud engine masking creaks and rattles. Just be aware of that.

FYI electric cars still create tons of waist, first lets first re-do the tire industry yes tires can last the life of the car and be disposed of in a proper manner, this is a metal heavy truck its stupid, build plastic and rubber cars no metal is the concept, if this thinking does not change metal cars will still be around for another 100 years think of how many tires in the next 25 years, it can be done today

Yes you could just beef up the Prius suspension and so this. I hauled a lot of stuff with sedans before.

It is listed as a homemade build if I recall correctly. Not too hard to get a plate, just have to prove it isn't a stock vehicle.
