Based on a suggestion from the audience, Gabriela Montero performs an improvisation that combines two famous pieces: Frédéric Chopin's Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Op. 23 & Astor Piazzolla's "Adiós Nonino".
Part 6 of the event "An evening Gabriela Montero: Improvisations, Brahms and Ginastera", featuring a recital of pieces by Johannes Brahms and Alberto Ginastera, as well as Montero's famous improvisations after suggestions from the audience - on themes by Giacomo Puccini, John Williams, Frédéric Chopin, Astor Piazzolla, and more.

About "An Evening with Gabriela Montero"
Gabriela Montero loves improvisation. The Venezuelan artist masters this uncommon art like
no other contemporary classical pianist. In her concerts, this remarkable talent has become
the highlight. This recital recording captures Montero's ephemeral gimmicks that fascinate
her audience.
Born in Caracas, Gabriela gave her first public performance at the age of five. She made her
concerto début with the “Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra” conducted by José Antonio Abreu
and was granted a scholarship from the Venezuelan government to study in the USA at the
age of eight. From her first contact with a piano, Gabriela has always improvised. At the
behest of Martha Argerich she decided to make it public, ignoring the possibility of being
perceived improper.

This is such a fun back-and-forth between the pianist and the audience. Very different from what I'd expected, which is great.

Всё это выглядит очень просто: шутливое обращение в зал... лёгкая игра, как бы между прочим... Но за всем этим стоит не только мастерское владение инструментом, не только умение импровизировать, но нечто большее и непостижимое. Импровизации Габриелы очень отличаются от обычных джазовых своей красотой, прекрасно разработанной фактурой и выстроенной формой. Её игра - удивительный феномен, стоящий за гранью обычных возможностей, обычной импровизации (неважно классической или джазовой). Как говорила она сама: Во время импровизации её ум отключается. По сути мы слышим то, что ей даётся свыше. И это просто прекрасно. Впрочем, замечательны не только импровизации, но и её исполнение классических произведений, и её концерт "Latino" . Благодарю!
