If you act calm around wasps and bees they'll generally leave you alone. If you're going in an area you think might have a lot of bees or wasps it can be worth it to have something sugary on you that you can give them. I do this all the time. I offer wasps my soda or sticky candies and they take some of it then just look at me then leave. In general if you're calm and smart around nature it will respect you in return.

I've been forever traumatized about a time I was out swimming and left a coke can out, took a big gulp only to spit out a wasp. Never left an open can outside before without some kind of lid.

The wasp thing is correct. Since the larva are all grown up the wasp have to find another food source. And since plants are starting to dwindle in the fall they start to look for sugar. Which is why they're always around our sugary drinks in the fall
