Hans Langsdorff's decision to save his men rather than to have them perish in a senseless battle is extraordinary: A truly great commander! ps: If only this game was real time like Cold Waters...
I've played this game a lot. The strategy for the Graf Spee is to turn hard starboard, go to flank speed, and thereby basically fighting one-on-one against the Exeter and being able to broadside against just the front turrets of the Exeter. . By the time the light cruisers are in range to fire, you should have already knocked the Exeter out of action.
On the tactical screen you can track the fall of shot by clicking the dividers in the bottom right. It has really helped me improve my shooting! Great game!
The little splash icon on the middle right of the screen is your biggest ally. It records your previous fall of shot on your target and depending on its colour and grading it tells how many degrees you are off by. Takes a little bit of time, but is better than fighting the estimate number in the top right.
Double click on friendly and enemy vessels and it will give you a damage control report. Yellow, orange, and red being different levels of damage. Great game!
One of the first naval battles during the Second World War. Have you seen the movie? Fact: The Admiral Graf Spee is actually played by the US Navy Des Moines class cruiser USS Salem.
If I remeber correctly HMS Exeter barely made it to the repair facilites in the Falkland islands in real life, so your result dispatched Graf Spee quicker than Commodore Harwood did!
I love this game. I have had it on my iPad for ages and it’s really good! Taff you really need to try the ‘battle of the Atlantic’ game mode. It’s really cool. You get to control/manage the whole fleet in the Atlantic.
that was great. please could you do a custom fleet action, like a mini Jutland just to see what would have happened if the nazis ever did manage to get all their major vessels in action against an allied fleet of similar size?
Graf Spee was a lot smaller than the Moltke, a typical German battlecruiser of WW1. She had 4 fewer 11” guns, and had much less armour, especially belt armour. In terms of size and armour, the Graf Spee had more in common with the Blücher, the last German armoured cruiser, sunk at the Battle of Dogger Bank in 1915. Although the Blücher was 3 knots slower, and had 12 x 8” guns, instead of 6 x 11” guns, her fighting capability was about the same as Graf Spee’s. Graf Spee was badly outclassed by the British battlecruisers Renown and Repulse, which were much larger, had much larger 6 x 15” guns, much thicker armour, and were faster. So she didn’t deserve to be called a battlecruiser. But against cruisers, especially light cruisers, Graf Spee could more than hold her own (except when outnumbered 3 to 1).
YES! Alright! Check out the Guides for Atlantic Fleet, and do the BAttle of the Atlantic mode. ITs so fun! Check out the actual guide on killerfishgames' website.
I love this game and I put up a glowing Steam review of it when it launched, but my one biggest complaint is that the larger capital ships can't fire their secondaries and primary weapons in a turn, making the secondaries a decoration until fairly rare cases like in this where the turrets get disabled, while in reality they would all be firing. I'm hoping if we ever get a sequel, they'll find a way to showcase a ships full firepower! Here's an over-exaggerated analogy to make my point: it's like a ship with 4 turrets, but only 1 turret can fire per turn. Or, it's like an M3 Lee (early-WW2 tank) that can't fire it's 75mm and 37mm cannons at the same time (kinda like in WoT!). Of course the secondaries won't make a HUGE difference, but it will make >A< difference, and it's probably how in reality the escort ships received light and medium damage!
You're not even using half of the biggest guns that you have. You're shooting armor-piercing out of a 6-inch gun where you should be shooting a cheat to set fires. But at this distance with your smaller ships you should be slinging Torpedoes out of my handful at a time. Dude you have made the wrong decision every time you've made a decision the only reason you'll win this is because you're lucky.

Excellent little game, just downloaded it after watching the vod from your recent twitch stream

why is the graff spee a CA (heavy cruiser) is it not the very definition of a battlecruiser? relative light armor, high caliber guns?
Late but yes in 1940 it was reclassed as a heavy cruiser by the German military

Play the campaign as allies would make a great set of videos
i love this game
I have this and i love it
I'd like to see more of this game
You can double-click on your ships to see the damage they've taken.
You should also check out the other game these devs made, which is called Cold Waters. Its a great cold war sub simulator
Lol This game has better hitboxes and whole damage system than vanilla Silent Hunter 5...
Exeter should be gone a long time!No German rangefinder would miss at this distance 18 shots!
Liked it!
22:05:Nice Star Wars Reference there but it's the Graf Spee not the Executor.
I just played this battle as Graf spee ..sank all 3 ships..
Denmark Strait as Bismarck next pls! sink the british ships!
Basically a metaphor for WW2 Brits getting their asses handed to them early we only to come out on top in the end.
After the russians got them so well done there.
More Atlantic
If it has uboats in it thatll be cool
Maybe could have used torpedoes as well as guns.
Lol i play this on my phone and sink all the british vessels

You would not be so lucky if ì wàs playing the germans
Pronounced Schpey not spay, yet spelt Spee. Odd.

You're doing everything wrong. Everything wrong.
