Thanks Doc for sharing the History of Yo, the stories are awesome! I’m Minnesota’s Yo-Yo Historian, a retired teacher, who does shows for Senior Living Centers, VA’s, and History Museum. Thanks again Doc
Rad, there's a lot of Midwestern yo-yo history that I think tends to get overlooked. For instance, I think the Midwest had a lot of influence on the binds we use today. I think Dave Poyzer from Iowa came up with the backspin bind most of us use these days and he taught it to us at Midwest Regionals in the Mall of America back in 2002 or 2003.
Pretty cool Doc. I think you saw that I was living in central Illinois for a while. I don't remember o'fallen, I remember Quincy wasn't too far off and st Louis was about 4 hours away from where I lived
Please do more of these little trick/yoyo history lessons. I really enjoyed it, Doc. Your Pac Man sweater is 2Legit. Shoutout Lao with the Trogdor shirt, too.
This was a great episode. I really enjoyed watching this. I have a distinct memory in the year 2000, working at air traffic and we were having a yoyo contest. I didn't really know you yet, but I remember you being very excited to show the gyroscopic flop to Dazzling Dave. I didn't know the history that you described in this video. But you were very excited to show Dazzling Dave, and I feel like in that interaction Dave named the trick Doc Flop. I can't even imagine how this trick was possible with the yoyos we were using in 99 and 2000.
Rad, thanks for filling in those gaps. I really can't remember anything specific about the naming of this trick. During the interview I was shocked when Lao said he was already calling it the Gyroscopic Flop. In my mind it was unnamed for a while, then called the Doc Flop, which eventually became the Gyroscopic Flop. I think what actually happened though was that Lao told me it was the Gyro flop, I tried calling mine something different which didn't catch on that well, then forgot that Lao was already using the term Gyroscopic Flop and thought I had coined that term. That sounds like something I'd do ;)
I've seen you do this trick exactly three times. I haven't watched this video. I haven't watced any tutorials on it, and I've never seen anyone else do it yet (maybe Dylan Kowalski in one vid but maybe not) Somehow I taught myself a ghetto version of this trick today. The only mount I know for it is when you hop over to do a double trapeeze but then pull your finger out as it lands. Any tips for avoiding killing the spin? I still refuse to watch a tutorial video.

Thanks! I designed the Pac-Man sweater and my wife knitted it. She did all the hard work, really.
@@DocPop she's got s k i l l z .
Trogdor shirt is awesome!
Wait... An Icarus/Yoyo platformer game would be AWESOME.
Totally. I was working on a yo-yo platformer many years ago. Game design is hard, so I gave up, but an Icarus theme would be dope.

Hey doc! Can you play horizontal while laying down horizontal? That’s my dream skill
Oh wow, I haven’t tried that before. Good luck!
Lao is Paralyzed now. Sad.
Oh man, that is such a bummer.
