Works I'm sure. I'm a Floridian who has peeled many many shrimp/prawn. I use a tool and it takes the shell off and the vein, too. But, I learned something here, taking the vein out at the start was new to me. I am not that concerned with the vein, a lot of us just eat away. Thanks !

Just peeled my very first prawns :) I was pretty scared at first, I guess that's what I get for being brought up in a city haha! I was more comfortable after peeling my fifth one or so
yes thank goodness that third method saves so much time and less mess, I'm not chef but I do feel pretty fancy now peeling me prawns quickly whilst everyone else is hand picking shells aha
Why don't people devein the bottom side of the shrimp too? The intestinal tract runs all the way around the shrimp, and usually there's a lot more grit on the underside. Also side note: although it takes a lot more time and effort, you should show how to peel the tail keeping it attached it to the whole shrimp. I find it wasteful to throw the tail out, when it's possible to eat it!
wow you are a chef and it takes you forever to do these shrimp havent you ever heard of pinch pull???? or the 2nd joint method? I will teach you how to do this
Watching this while watch MKR (when Gianni and Zana didn't clean their prawns forcing the judge to do it himself). Great methods and my mum is going to teach me irl soon :)
Another method is to push a tooth pick right through the side of the prawn tail, underneath the vein and lift it up until it breaks through the top of the tail, bringing the vein with it. You will end up with a very small tear in the tail, but you're going to chew it up and eat it anyway, so who cares. I was delivering some stuff to an Asian restaurant in Townsville years ago and saw an old bloke deveining prawns with this method. I've used it ever since.
I like the first way the best because I can be sure it all came out. I am trying it on some huge, Argentinian shrimp when I next cook them. I ate some crunchy ones of same last month and then found out I ate shrimp poo. My stomach still turns thinking about it.
Glad you enjoy and found it handy. Hi, I have a question.. I bought unshelled prawns and I tried to devein it like you did, but I can't find anything.. no veins... but on the inner curve, I did find a black line that I removed... and on the tail part there is a line that I removed too by cutting the back.. my prawns look really ugly.. but seems like the job is done. what did i do wrong? it's my first time deveining prawns. thank you.
+FallenAngel2406 Not shore on the Prawns you brought some are devein before sale. I dont think you did anything wrong give it a try with fresh green Prawns next time around, Thanks for tuning in see you every Friday. Regards Scotty & Paul.
There are two "veins". Yes we know they are not really veins, but that's what they are called. Anyway a few places on the net cover removing both veins, but I've found no vids on YT.
+Tmidiman I've de-veined shrimp and its along the back and the tummy. When you take out the back vein, I noticed it kept pulling more, and it pulled out the tummy one. Thats when I discovered the second vein. From the back vein removal, just keep pulling and you will remove it all, . if not, you eat some crap,. Oh well.
Mg Sa if you remove the hear you can then pull the vein out leaving the shell on a little tricky but give it a try. Thanks for tuning in, are the Prawns for New Years party. Regards Scotty & Paul

My favorite way is to buy the prawns/shrimp already pealed and de-veined at my local Wal-Mart and yes I know that Wal-Mart made a ISIS Black Flag themed cake but that was in Louisiana I don't live in that state.

Please, can you tell me what about digestion system of prawn; does it have one like shrimp (in space between body with legs and tail)? shrimp has gut disgusting inside, full of guts and sh** that he eats from the bottom of the sea and I am not sure about prawns... Thanx for the video!

Thank you, Sir!
Your third method saved the shrimp from getting thrown in the trash.
Not knowing this makes the process extremely frustrating.

it is a very nice video..superb......Thank you! for making this video for us....

To devein means to remove the prawn intestinal tract cheers guys.👍
Why don't people devein the bottom side of the shrimp too? The intestinal tract runs all the way around the shrimp, and usually there's a lot more grit on the underside.
Also side note: although it takes a lot more time and effort, you should show how to peel the tail keeping it attached it to the whole shrimp. I find it wasteful to throw the tail out, when it's possible to eat it!
The bottom "vein" is the central nerve of the shrimp. Nothing wrong with eating it and it doesn't impact the flavor.
Great... I liked the 2nd way
Wow that's really cool ways to deshell prawn👍

One question: i heard there are veins at the underside of the prawns.
Not that I know of. Thanks for your comment. The vein is the intestinal track.
What about the vein on the bottom
No bottom vein in our prawns in Australia that I know about
There are 2 veins one at the back and one at the front. I have not seen any chef till day showing or removing the vein which is on the front side.
I also have the same concern. Chef , can you address it please?
If prawn small how can clean
Same way

My fishmonger told me you don't have to bother to devein and so I never have, but now I'm worried I met get poisoned or something if I don't do it.
No you won’t get poisoned but it is there intestinal tract so better to remove.
