    This is perfect, because I got a bridge and trestle set and the big pillars bottom look like concrete on the box image so this helped me a lot

    Thanks, Kathy - once again, a very informative video. For my concrete, I used a thin skim of Polyfilla, adding some colour during the mix. Concrete is often laid in separate sections, so I scratched in the straight-line 'joins' and some 'cracks' before the Polyfilla dried. Finally, I put a few bits of 'grass' in the joins and cracks. But I bet yours turns out better!

      I love the idea of using a skim of plaster. Thus kit means I couldn't do that but plaster gives more variations on texture and colour. I bet yours looked great.

    Try cutting some expansion joints into the concrete with a pointed blade.

      That would work well in areas that had them.

      Hi Tim. Glad to help. It's Tamiya XF-55 Deck tan. There's a few others called "something" deck tan so I'd check the number.

      Now that's interesting to know because I was looking at Humbrol's enamel Concrete and didn't like it because it had a greenish hue to it. I'll have to have a look at this once the lockdown is over and Hobbycraft reopens!

    How does that knock-down spray booth work out? Does it come with a fan or separate?

    Useful weathering tips. Thanks for sharing.
    I'd never been able to get a concrete color I liked until about a week ago. Then I got lucky... My wife bought a some pale tan paint for the living room, but didn't like it (too yellow). Back at the store, she had them attempt to darken it a little (Then it looked a little grey). It looks almost like concrete, I thought. Under the lighting in my train room it still wasn't quite right. but when mixed with approximately an equal amount of a light gray I already had (Apple Barrel "granite gray"), it was perfect to my eye. Now I have a gallon of the stuff!
    As for a concrete or stucco texture in O-scale. I've found that mixing talcum powder in the paint works very well (obviously it cannot be airbrushed in this state - oh wait... I don't have an airbrush anyway).

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  8 лет назад

      Excellent story! You'll have to build a lot of concrete to use all that up.

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll 8 лет назад

      Yes, especially as mixing in the light gray doubles the volume, so if I mix it all up together, I'll have two gallons. Maybe I should get some small bottles and sell it on e-bay.
      Actually I like the idea of mixing it as I go because that way each batch will be slightly different. I should still be able to get it close enough for touching up existing work (provided I weather it), but there will still be the subtle variations visible between different concrete jobs.

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  8 лет назад

      +mpeterll you're right, slight variations will be so much more realistic. You may be on to a winner selling to all your friends, if not eBay too!

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  2 месяца назад

      You can generally hand paint instead but it isn’t as easy as using an airbrush for some paint finishes.

    The xf-55 deck tan looks way more yellow in the video then in real life? The xf-55 i got here is more grayish... also the mig natural wash looks brown in the video, and the actual wash is almost colorless... the result looks nothing like the video...
