An amazingly brave operation. 50 years ago I worked with a navy diver who helped prepare the operation in Scotland. The same man had escaped from Singapore as the Japanese arrived. He was in Gibraltar demining when the Italians were attacking with midget submarines. It was there he claimed to have taught Commander Crabb how to swim. His name was Tommy "Dinger" Bell, and he had so many stories to tell.
An Uncle of mine .Albert Brooks was a member of X10’s passage crew he was the electrician on board. X10 was detailed to go after the Scharnhorst, but it had sailed.
Another wonderful historical coverage video about disabled Tirpitz German battleship during WW2 by majestic x5,x6,x7 British submarines... Thank you for an amazing( house of history) channel for sharing this wonderful video
Joined the R.N. in 1965 at H.M.S. Ganges and captain Geoffrey Place V.C. was my captain there, very well liked although not by me, but that's another story.... keep up the good work.
I love war history, please can you do more to outline allied navy missions and their working relationships to include who was senior leader over multinational forces in different ops.
3:25 - Drachinifel fan here. When I heard “added torpedo tubes”, I can’t help but recall his many diatribes on the size of the “flat” needed as a torpedo room. But I’m guessing these were deck-mounted torpedoes? That or someone lost their yoga studio in early 1942, inside the hull of Tirpitz.
03 April 1944: At 0528 hours, the Tirpitz is attacked by 40 bombers from the carriers Victorious, Furious, Emperor, Searcher, Fencer, and Pursuer. The ship is hit by 10 bombs of 225 kg and 4 of 775 kg. The damage is heavy and casualties amount to 122 dead and 316 wounded. At 0636 there is a second wave with no success. Ammunition expended: 506 x 10.5cm, 400 x 3.7cm, and 8,260 x 2cm projectiles.
Submarine X-1 This class of submarine was later featured in the 1968 movie Submarine X-1 starring James Caan as a Canadian Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve officer who after losing his submarine and fifty crew members in a battle with a German ship during World War II, gets a second chance training crews to take part in a raid using THESE MIDGET SUBS.
The 1955 film "Above us the Waves" is a far more accurate film, as it had Donald Cameron as a "technical" advisor - so I would recommend this film over your suggestion.
When u estimated cost of battle in the end please make a seperate table of how many men participateed in the battles and then comparing the total loss in the battle Eg a table must contain total men total ships planes, submarines etc And in another columns total destroyed, total damaged In order to understand easily Thank you
The pic at 1:22 should have “MILITARY”,instead of “ARMY”.The pic at 2:19 should have “SUBS”,instead of “U-BOATS”.FYI.”u-boat”=short form “unterseeboot”(German for “sub”).

hi.
This was a bold raid by the Royal Navy with their legendary X-Craft subs. My hat's off to the brave a courageous British crewmen of the X-Craft.
I've seen an x-craft in Gosport

Combined with Bluecher, Norway was a graveyard to some big warships that never saw ship to ship action

Stunned by the bravery of those X craft crews. Even the passage crews were some hardy and brave men.
These naval battles are awesome! Thanks For this
I am impressed, such intricate and revealing details of the infamous German battleship. Bravo and kudos to you, amigo.😊

Schnapps 12:20
The highest ranking British officer: a farewell drink you say?
Awesome video , any future videos involving New Zealand's efforts during WW2? Cheers!
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Especially hearing about her long list of injuries.
Very nicely done. I await the next posting. You may consider the last mission of the USS Tang - a true hero of a submarine.
Great suggestion, I will make note of it. Thanks!
very good video, next parts 2 and 3 are going to be good too.
Amazing video as always!

There were salvaged from the wrecks of the German destroyers sunk at Narvik in 1940. They were deck-mounted.
Thanks again for your video 😊😊.
Fascinating story
Great stuff!
Thanks!
I've just read the book the tirpitz, good book 👍

This is an excellent Chanell
Thank you Jason!

I've got a nice model of the Tirpitz.
This really a big project

Imagine what would've happened had more bombs been attached to the Tirpitz during this mission. It probably would've sunk.
Interesting about X-5.
I wonder if you can do video on the Battle of Surabaya, Indonesia in November 1945, in which Brigadier General Mallaby was killed
Very interesting ⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️

When will part 2 release ?
Yesterday
@@nikolaideianov5092 thank you
It is a great movie
👍👍👍
At this point should just admit that ships are just sitting ducks for airplanes or submarines...Bigger the battleship, bigger the disappointment.
This is a bold raid but must of gave many recourses for the ussr

Why should it have subs then? They're U-boats (Unterseebooten).
Did I hear mistaken for porpoises? Please excuse my ignorance, but do porpoises visit Norway?
My thoughts exactly
Yes! Harbor Porpoises regularly visit that area.
Dambusters vs Tirpitz part 2
i guess some facts were edited out, the subtitles show stuff unsaid
The fact that he painted over the border between Sweden and norway😭
The Royal Navy was the best in the world from Queen Elizabeth I's sea dogs until eclipsed by the US Navy in Leyte Gulf.
Tirpitz the sole battleship? Poor Scharnhorst and Gneissenau get no respect! 😅
(I agree tho, they're battlecruisers)
No. They were well armoured, but weakly armed, battleships. Their belt armour was actually stronger than that of the Bismarcks.
I read most of this as a child, in a comic.
How many U-boats could they have built instead of this Reef. Thank God they were stupid.
The brits had to use subterfuge to sink it. They couldn't take it 1 on 1
Isn’t the Bismarck male
.
Silly Nazis
