  • In this episode, I discuss my most recent challenges in finding adequate medical care. While I have been searching for a new Infectious disease doctor, and most importantly a new surgeon, I have been left feeling hopeless meanwhile the mycobacterium continues to grow inside of me.
Although the process of finding a better team of doctors has been long and challenging, I think I have found the right Infectious Disease Doctor, thanks to one tik-toker with Mycobacterium sending me a DM!
Most importantly, THANK YOU for 19k subs on this channel! I have fallen in love with making these videos and am forever grateful for the outpour of support.

My wife just showed me your channel. I fought M. Abscessus about 10 years ago. It took over a year to get the diagnosis because my doctors never thought to order an Acid Fast Bacillus culture. Daily fevers and night sweats and abscesses. I broke down crying in my doctors office more than once. I spent 2 years on IV Amikacin, Cefoxitin and oral Clarithromycin. I had massive abscesses erupt and drain and couldn't get anyone to treat them until I went to my Urologist for an unrelated Issue when he saw a massive abscess on me he scheduled me for surgery the next day to drain and clean them. He set me up with daily wound care. He was the first doctor who truly show an interest in helping me. I'm so sad to hear you're struggling so hard to find the care you need. Stay positive and keep advocating for yourself.

My mom just died at age 56 of stage four metastatic breast cancer that came back after 10 years of what we thought was "remission." I am her daughter and I just lost her this year on March the 9th and I am 21, so being around and dealing with the effects of illness is something i can relate to and how difficult it is to get proper medical treatment without the insurance companies and hospitals taking all your money. I am grieving my mom so hard right now, and I just gound your interview with Dr. Mike, today on a youtube short, so i watched the whole podcast. You are actually momentarily helping me to see where i can change and be happier in the depths of my grief and post-traumatic stress healing.
I didn't realize someone in the world actually cares about the post-traumatic parts of recovering from illnesses or even deep grief. I love your voice and your strong heart and presence. It's so good to see a woman who has suffered so much, but who tries to keeps a positive mindset because I'm fighting suicidal depression and anxiety, flashbacks, and emotional triggers and outbursts of grief these past many months because I was there to watch my own mother die because her liver shut down after chemo and because of the tumors regrowing in her liver a second time. It was very, very traumatic to witness that death and tragedy, but you let me see that good things are possible. Dr. Mike, on your podcast interview, I talked about during post-traumatic event healing, (whether healing from an illness or grief) you have to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and that just made me almost cry because I never considered in my life in these past four months that there may be a light somewhere at the end of all this terrible suffering.
I'm sorry for such a long comment, but i hope you read this, Bea, and I am rooting hard for you. I subscribed to your channel today, and I continue to hope for your full recovery.
    With love, Grace ❤

Praying for you, I really hope you find a medical team to work with you and help you find solutions. 💖🙏🏼
Thank you for being real with us and for fighting to make a change in the toxic “medical spa” industry and exposing these spas. As a licensed esthetician I also don’t agree with these medical spas. I use to work for one and I always felt that place was sketchy. They offered services that weren’t in our scope of practice and there was never a RN on site or any medical professional. I’m glad I left. They also changed their name when I first started working there. Soo I’m sure they had some legal issues before

I work at a hospital and you are not alone. Even people who work for these doctors are sick of their shit. The doctor who called those surgeons in front of you should be the standard but a lot of these doctors do hide behind paperwork to string patients along. I respect you for understanding they are overworked and that there are so many patients. I feel for patients like you who are given the run around when you need care as soon as possible. Stories like these fuel the passion I have for the work I do because even though the clinic I currently work for has a referral work queue of over 2,200 patients, I come to work and treat every name I see as it if were my own and do my best to reach out to every patient. Thank you for telling your story. I hope this doctor continues to follow your care and that his colleagues have just as good bedside manner. Wishing you a speedy recovery 🫶🏾

Bless you and may you be blessed as you navigate ridding your body of this bacterium. Your story showed up on my feed with your interview with Dr Mike. Your story, your strength, your intelligence compelled me to search for you. Glad to hear you are in Florida- we have some great doctors but the insurance situation ( I am on Medicare and it is seriously convoluted) is abysmal. I grew up in Miami but now live in a beautiful part of central Florida not far from Gainesville.
Wondering if you can find people/doctors in the ‘know’ about areas of Florida where care could be expedited, especially with your current and possible, ongoing situation. And hopefully by January 2025 you will have enough subscribers to fund the additional monies needed for a PPO insurance policy.
Your message is so important- you now have me thinking about cleanliness when changing/inserting a new cannula ( type 1 diabetic for 11 years) into my skin, even going to Quest for routine bloodwork, or working in the yard without gloves on. Just so many things to consider when living in a hot/humid area.
I’ve had IV Myers cocktail, glutathione pushes, Botox once, lip filler several times and inquired about eyebrow tattoos - but will definitely be happy with the way I am aging and the body God has given me. I now muscle test for anything that I ingest.
May God continue to guide you on your journey, one that took a 180 degree turn , but one you have learned to accept. Your sharing ( and hopefully a book in the making) will make you stronger and many people will benefit. ❤️

It’s a business. These doctors only see the liability involved. They no longer treat the patient. Usually the nurse practitioner and PA are the ones I would rather deal with.
Also, I think that things have gotten worse post pandemic because large migrations happened to places like FL which has backlogged things. I’ve seen it here in Houston.
As someone who was a cancer survivor in my early 30s, I am so impressed by you.

My boyfriend has a chronic illness and it's a full time job just dealing with insurance companies, disability people, etc. No one communicates or sends paperwork correctly, and it takes months for stuff to get handled properly.
I also work in healthcare and yes, some docs are wonderful and others are horrendous. I don't know if competent people aren't opting for med school or who is approving some of these idiots to graduate but it's horrifying. General public have no idea just how bad it is. A lot of good people are being lost to burnout and it's only getting worse from here unfortunately

It’s because of greed. Private companies figured out how to make money on Medicare and Medicaid.
The government marketplace was supposed to make healthcare more accessible but what it did was make profits more accessible for the healthcare industry.

Re: the out-of network surgeon, does your insurance have out-of-network benefits for partial reimbursement at a certain percentage from a superbill? Have you spoken to a nurse case manager at your insurance company to work on a single-case agreement with that surgeon (and is the surgeon willing to sign a single-case agreement)? Glad you found the doctor in Ft. Lauderdale, but the transit expenses suck--hopefully an insurance claim for the drunk driver can cover interim transit???

You're so welcome! Unfortunately, lots of this comes from personal experience. I'm your age and just got a proper diagnosis and treatment last year for something I'd been sick with for at least the prior 11 years. It's life-changing being healthy now and I'm so grateful, but the healthcare system is broken. I hope your journey to health is wayyyy shorter than mine.

Like I’m having such a situation myself right now and I’m literally worried I’m gonna die and they won’t help me. It’s always the fucking male docs too they often jump to conclusions and just stop listening after that and it leads to extreme suffering… like for the past 5 days I’ve been COMPLETELY unable to sleep and they will not prescribe me something that will knock me out even tho I’ve been literally screaming at them over and over to help me. Some docs are just so stupid and SO BAD
