The apt question should be "What happened to Indian Audiance". Family audiance had completely ditched the theaters for other affordable forms of entertainment. 70% of theater audiance these days are teenagers and young adults mostly mens, they prefer action, hero elevation, item songs, stunts, boom baam like a circus. The rest are young females accompanying the males. Since the Target audiance Today is under 30 age men's, the product (cinema) has also changed. This same stuff is seen in USA aswell, these days only superhero or remakes of old franchises get funded in USA, everything else fails to work, Like satyajit said theater audiance are turning unsophisticated(again). Audience also plays a part in this . Like for the most part even in the US , most people who watch movies in theatres are big families or teenagers who mostly go to theaters to have a good time and enjoy any flashy movie that has a huge poster or advertisement behind it, these flashy movies who have spend a lot of time in marketing gain a huge amount of profit from it too. People who enjoy watching creative and artistic movies are the same people who go to theatres just to enjoy watching movies , they don't care about marketing or flashing posters and ads , nor they care about having occasional fun with their families and friends , they are simply there to watch the movies and enjoy the experience. The latter kind of people are the main audience of creative and artistic movies

Art is only for few to savour. Art is never produced for the mass. Mass wants pleasure and entertainment, not art. And so art is so precious. One needs intellect to appreciate art. Only few here got intellect.
It is the filmmaker's motive that truly counts. In India, the majority of people who make famous films do so primarily for financial gain; they are oblivious to the artistic realm of cinema and lack knowledge of the language of cinema. Only a few genuine, artistically and socially conscious filmmakers, like Satyajit Ray, have been born in this country.A culture that is neither artistic nor intellectually stimulating is created and shaped by the popular Indian movies. People get only a huge dopamine and adrenaline surge from this kind of entertainment. These days Pushpa aand Bahubali receiving national prizes is terribly regrettable😢
Bhavesh joshi the superhero is the latest example of this.that was one gem of a movie made in such a low cost.still it failed miserably.audience are the problem, good movies are still made.

Well most people argue that most indians enjoy unrealistic and full of masala because their own life is very stressfull in that case why don't they watch good movies driven by storytelling and cinematography, which will inspire them and might even help them find the answers to their questions. Think of it , when you see a quote on a book or these days instagram, some quotes just resonates with you and inspire you .
Comedian Jagdeep used to say that the cinema was the biggest classroom where fiction was used to embellish the fact and values were used to inspire virtue. Starting with the hollowness of the Garibi Hatao movement and its subsequent avatars of the Nav Nirman movement, the youth became self-indulgent and addicted to the quick fix of violence. So, the medium moved into the escapist domain of fantasy, where all problems were not resolved by the force of conviction of the character, but dissipation of a Dionysean orgy. The hero stopped being an epitome of virtue like Dharmendra, and instead became an embodiment of self-indulgence like Bachchan. O tempora, o mores ! The hero is not an embodiment of Apollo, but is an expression of Dionysius.

Art is one of the many medicines for the sorrow of people in their lives. But the sad thing is that the Taste and Choice of people globally is getting worse. Whether we talk about literary works, cinematic works or music or painting or philosophy or fashion works and many more. For developing a "good" taste we have turn our heads and look for the classics, The legendary canons. Only after that we can classify which should be consumed and then only the very rare but deserving artists who are losing motivation will arise and a significant change in the whole artistic industries may be seen. Nice Video.

What a beautiful video essay. Sharp references, beautiful music, spot on editing. One thing that you should try and improve is your script. The material is spot on, but the language can improve. It looks like hindi is not your first language, which is not at all a problem. But if you write the script beforehand, practice english and hindi pronunciations and then go for the recording, it will take the essay to another level. Maza aaya bhai!

When you say Indian Cinema but only talk about Bollywood and Satyajit ray and refer to everything else as regional cinema, there lies the issue. Have you seen GGVV, Swati muttina Male Haniye, SSE side A and B, aattam, All we imagine as light. There's so much to see if you become comfortable with subtitles
Subtitles, yes this!!! I have noticed there no hindi subtitles because reading is what Hindi people can't do, they want dubs and I feel lack of connection with dubs.idk why Hindi people don't like reading and quality of dubs is worse too much nonformal cringe, as for non Hindi cinemas can they also provide other language subtitles to reach them not just english, not everyone know English I am afraid this may be related to lack of education, people don't engage in reading literature activities which is closely related to lack of art film making..
Making people laugh and entertain is also a art. Making boring cinema in the name of art isn't a art. This intellectual superiority mindset doesn't change anything. People choice of cinema depends on many factors like culture education and tradition
Not everything has to be a picture perfect artistic movie. Sometimes people watch movies just to escape reality. For a common man with no knowledge of science, art or cinema would probably not watch a film with an artistic angle and heavy message, for them a movie with hero flying and kicking ten people is everything.

There is no turning back, because the exact type of movies which excites you are available online for free ,theater is just for couples or fanbois now days i feel :(

Both art and commercial cinema r two sides of a coin called "CINEMA" .
Indian cinema can't make decent action fantasy
Video details are so good. And, I also think the problem is that, today's films are more about violence and masala more than good storytelling.
But I Like Commercial Movies Like Bahubali And RRR, Even Steven Spielberg And James Cameron Praised SS Rajamouli For RRR...
SS Rajamouli is basically Art + Commercial director.
A lot of detailing has gone in His films
Why is art more important than entertainment? What will these art films achieve which can't be learned any other way?
Art means storytelling
@raja-jl9os That's all you've to say?
Because movies show the world your culture and u want them to think them that our culture is what shown in pushpa
@Rajs-12 Every Italian must be in the fucking Mafia then. And apparently Superheroes exist. Dream within a Dream machines exist. We truly are in The Matrix. Humans are saving us through Time Travel. How many of us even KNOW the real America?
Movies are PRIMARILY for emotions. It's just in recent years that our movies are reaching foreign at such heights. All thanks to Blockbuster Mass Entertainers. Do you KNOW how happy I AM? That now we're not comparing our movies with foreign films, there are fights like KGFvsRRRvsVIKRAM! Nobody even cares about Hollywood anymore!
