Tragic loss! Cannot believe Hollyoaks opted to kill him off, instead of leaving the door open for a return. And why wasn`t Harry given more of the funny and feelgood type of scenes Darren and Kyle has been flooded with? Instead of the frankly more rubbish and inconsistent ones he was given, falling in love with the man who not only introduced him to prostitution, but blackmailed him into deceiving his father, at one point being cowardly enough to not inform his head teacher the man whose credit card he had booked a dirty weekend with was not his teacher, but his teacher`s estranged husband, who left a woman unconscious on the floor - but in other scenes both had the guts to kiss a strange man in a pub (only to later discover it was his new teacher) and even give chase to not only a serial killer, but one with police training and experience.
Hollyoaks never seemed able to make up it`s mind about who Harry was. Coward or hero, good pupil/student or slacker, decent and honest or lying rent boy. It was too much, and too over the top, most times. Harry Thompson was a character that could have been great, but because of poor storylines and illogical developments was turned into a piece of clay more than shaped as a character, making it up to the individual viewer to decide who Harry was, based on their own preference and which storylines and developments they included in their picture of who Harry was.
The Harry I am choosing to remember is the 2015 version, who after he noticed Ste took a shine to him at some restaurant event, he went all in to win Ste. Convinced Ste was better off with him, than with Sinead. I also think it was mistake of Hollyoaks not to make more out of Harry`s football (or if Parry doesn`t play football), change Harry`s sport achievements to gymnastics, which Parry is rumored to do very well. But the worse mistake of all was the £10 000 night and all the rent boy storylines to follow. As disastrously poor, as storylines, as both the Amy Barnes killing (cause it wasn`t actually murder - since it wasn`t planned. There is a long list of possibilities, from involuntary manslaughter to killing with intent, to consider - but not murder), the custody battle over Leah and Lucas (Seriously! Suing for custody when you have a chronic condition causing you blackouts without warning, like was the case with Ste - a condition which since mysteriously has disappeared, it seems - similarly to Nancy`s MS), honestly there have been so many poor storyline developments for poor Harry, I cannot list them all. There should have been more storylines with both his best friend Zack, his ex Cleo, friend Holly, and also as he appeared Cleo`s new man Joel. Especially when Harry was with Ste, the contrast between his needs for a social life, compared to the options there was with Ste`s kids to consider, could have provided many storyline angles.
But the worse sin of omission Hollyoaks made was not to create more funny moments and scenes for Harry, at least than Harry and James would have had something in common (and we would get an alternative to Gregory Finnegan`s interpretations of Robert Downie jr. as Sherlock Holmes, which basically is what Gregory Finnegan is doing when he is being sarcastic and charming as James), and Harry and James also would have seemed more as an even and believable pairing, than what they frankly were. Only in Hollyoaks, sort of springs to mind.
Poor Harry! He didn`t have much luck in love, his father was hopelessly pathetic and his life was led in the wrong direction because of the actions of others (Ste for making them homeless to shield Tegan, and James for introducing Harry to prostitution). I would have said rest in peace, but I have this tiny hope that maybe one stab would not have been enough to kill Harry, and he managed to escape and get help somehow afterwards. When Kathy Beale could rise from the dead decades after a traffic accident in Eastenders, Harry should be able to do so from being stabbed once by Breda.

As funny and amusing this excellently played by all - including the woman from the costume departement - was, there is something very chillingly Hollyoaksque in the coldness and disregard for other people`s feelings and wellbeing which is the red thread all these clips have in common. Only here it is done with a comedic wink - in Hollyoaks the intent behind usually is far more cynical. But even if I know this is made for fun and with ironi and sarcasm, there still is some kind of core to it, which maybe not in Parry`s case will be proven to be true, but in the case with former Hollyoaks cast members have been proven to be true. That being off Hollyoaks could mean being off tv/film completely, and also, when so many of your colleagues has been written out this way over the years. as Kieron Richardson probably have experienced, there is a limit to how invested you allow yourself to become in each one of them. So as funny and amusing these clips, lines, dialogues, expressions and tone of voices are, there could be a core of truth to much of it hidden behind all the comedy? If not necessarily between these cast members, then between others.
I hope Hollyoaks will not be the last time I will be able to see Parry Glasspool in something? Hopefully he will have his wish of something more lighthearted emerge, and his career will steadily (or with gigantic leaps?) move forward from here. Would be nice also, if he would continue with his many clips here on RUclips. And I have to mention this, cause I felt it to be so unfair, unnecessary and hypocritical of Hollyoaks, Shine and Channel 4 at the time, fining Parry Glasspool just for having created and acted out a character of a sinister nature, keeping him off screen even, as punishment for the same, when the character he created was not any worse than many of the characters Hollyoaks has created themselves, was an all time low for the show, and an attack towards both freedom of speech and freedom of expression you`ll mostly find in countries with little regard for human rights. It being his first "offence" - and since Hollyoaks did not have ownership to, or editorial responsibility for, the clip in question, the show, Shine and Channel 4 should have left it with his reassurance he would be more careful in the future (as an example issuing warnings prior to the clip, or only make certain clips available as 18+. To fine and exclude him from work for a role he played elsewhere I find outrageous. If it had not been a role he created for himself, but say he had shocked people by playing a pedophile or a cannibal in some movie or tv-serie, would he have been fined and excluded for that too? What is it that makes some members of the general public and Hollyoaks assume a comedic sketch to truthfully represent the personality, attitude and opinions of the writer/performer? Are they not familiar with concepts like fiction or acting? And the excuse that it was the knife that made the clip too much is just so pathetic. The knife was not used as weapon, just moved about in the air. How many times hasn`t both Ste and Tony handled knifes inside the kitchen sets of Hollyoaks, not to mention Nico picking one up to go to church to stab Trevor - and now Harry being stabbed by Breda? What is worse for an impressionable young mind? Seeing a knife being moved about in thin air, or seeing one of the most popular characters and cast members` in a dying scene? Quite frankly Hollyoaks should be more critical to what developments and character depictions they create themselves, and less so about the independently created works the various cast members do on their own time! The very idea that the character Parry Glasspool had created (a woman so worried someone should attempt to steal her man, or that he should cheat on her, she made quite explicit threats to what she would do to either of the involved, should something of that nature occur) represented his view on the issue of domestic abuse honestly was offensive towards him. He made a parody of a an extremely jealous and quite mad woman. In no way was that suggested to apply neither to domestic abuse, nor women, in general. His character did no more stain victims of domestic abuse, than the character of Breda creates the impression all nannies to be serial killers.
Instead of being so concerned about being seen to act, Hollyoaks should have dealt with the matter properly (delayed the process holding an internal inquiry, with plenty of time for Parry Glasspool to respond to it`s findings, before making a final decision of what to do - tell Glasspool not to upload upsetting clips without warnings about shocking and violent content, but since it was his first "offence" - and since he hadn`t been specifically instructed he wasn`t allowed to make clips on his own (which would have been both a breach of free speech and freedom of expression to deny him), there would be no further action taken. By that time the story would have been old news, one few would remember, and even fewer cared about. And for those who did, any objections or questions the implicated parties (Glasspool himself, Hollyoaks, Shine and Channel 4) would just refer to the report and it`s findings, which doubtfully any journalist would have bothered to read, if the reasons stated as a conclusion were freedom of speech and freedom of expression. Values few journalists would like to see undermined - and therefore wouldn`t have attacked.
