This song was written by my late brother, Rick Iantosca ( ref: allmusic com - Rick Iantosca) together with John Oates. Rick recently passed away this past March. I've been listening to private tracks of this song while the vocals were being practiced by Darel in the studio. I think this was the best song they ever did, but I am not biased at all :-) RIP Rick, you were terribly under-credited for the immense amount of songwriting and rewriting of so many hit songs for so many major artists.
I agree that it is right up there with the very best of their catalog. Yet rarely performed, I believe. Great lyrics, melodies, and chords on top of a funky and rockin' groove.
I’m sorry for your loss. Sounds like you have some great memories and great respect for your brother. I’m sure that meant more to him than all the publicity in the world. Your post touched me and I don’t even know you. Great Tribute!!!👏👏👏
In my humble opinion, this track from 'Ooh Yeah' knocks both "Everything Your Heart Desires" and "Missed Opportunity" out of the park. It's long been one of my all-time Hall/Oates favorites, and it still puzzles me how it flew over the heads of so many when it was released as a single! Love the energy of this performance and the crowd.
I'm only 19 but I'm telling you these guys are one of my favorite groups ever. I grew up with my Dad playing Hall and Oates all the time, I've seen them live myself twice, and I simply can't get enough of them!
What a killer performance - band is great all around, great to hear Oates's guitar so well, Wolk is just tearing it up, and of course Hall is his usual magnificently melodic self. I thought the backing tracks on this album were too synthetic, so it's really refreshing to hear the real-band treatment here. Cheers!
That was their trademark back in the 80's! Built up the energy, starting with percussion, then bass, then keys, then guitar, then John and finally Daryl hitting the stage!
Incredible song, great bass line, and one of the best performance videos I've ever seen! And of course, one of the best voices on the planet! Thanks for posting. Keep em coming.
Your brother did a great job on this song. It was kinda lost in 80s production but its a very well crafted song, great chords, love the way the middle section goes back into the outro choruses. Daryl sung a killer vocal on the studio version too - must be a treat to hear the rehearsal versions. RIP to your brother buddy.
WHOA!!!!!! Is right!!!! I saw this video about 2 weeks ago and haven't gotten it out of my head!!! I love the energy!!! I finally got the chance to see these amazing fellas in '06...it was AMAZING...feel bad for the people sitting behind me though, all they saw was my back...boogied down ALL night....LOVE these guys....thanks sooooo much for your awesome vids!!! COME BACK TO CANADA YOU GUYS!!!!!
The drummer makes this number, Tony Beard. Very heavy dude! He had previously lifted Go West. Fantastic groove :-) Brought the whole album to a higher level. Stayed for Darryls next solo album. T-Bones favvo drummer.
@@spyderj3756 Tony Beard was amazing. Saw him live several times in the early days of Go West. Not sure what he's up to now - I believe he lives in New York, but I could be wrong...
Good tune, good threads, good hair, good rockin, solid solid vocals, bass in the realms of untouchable, heavy drums, good g solo, nailed on frackin clip
I just watched this for the 1st time and it just floored me with memories, this is one of those basically unknown gems in their vastly underrated yet vast catalog. Thank YOU, lonekoxox, for posting this. I'm sure to watch it a zillion times again!
@nopethegeek, Thank you. There is more interesting back story. Rick recorded a career retrospect and in it described about how that song came about, two different songs written at the same time. The other one (by Daryl & John I believe) didn't make the cut, this one made it instead. I actually have a partial cut of that unreleased song that I just found in some tapes Rick left behind. On it is also the initial phone conversation between Rick and John planning to write this one-Pretty cool stuff.
Sorry to hear of your brothers passing. This is one of my all-time favorite tracks by H&O. I remember when it was released as a single, and I figured it would shoot to #1. I was very sad when it petered out at #31 on the US charts. I know also that the song was originally intended for the Beverly Hills Cop II soundtrack, but after hearing the final mix, Daryl and John wanted it all to themselves (or so the story went in an interview back in the day)
I was at Rick's (Rocco "Rick" Iantosca) home Recording With Him (80's) & He Played His Original Song Downtown Life That He Had Just Written. When The Record Was released I was amazed at the lack of Credit Applied. (Not To Mention countless other songs). Sadly I I Just Learned Of Rick's Passing online. We were to get together and I was about to call him & found his obituary online and I Am deeply Saddened & Shocked. We Wrote A lot of songs together that he will get credit for should they ever become well known, Although He Kept Insisting He Did Not Want Credit. And Most importantly I Wish to Extend My DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO Ricks Family....I Spoke with Rick a couple of years ago & he was excited about his new home & He also expressed to me he had married his high school sweetheart. Any time we spoke it was always great conversation and it was always uplifting. Some of my songs are now getting airplay Largely In Part From What I Learned From Rick. "The Difference Between A Demo & A Record" I could continue On & On About Rick but any time I would ask his advise He Would Always Reply. "Tom Take The Path Of The Least Resistance" Heartbroken.....
I don't think so - I've looked! There are a few more clips from this concert (and a ton of other Hall & Oates videos) on www.youtube.com/@konekoxox (who uploaded this some time ago).
I bought a bootleg somewhere many yrs ago but there's no official release because, sadly, H&O didn't release any concert videos from their 1988 tour. This was filmed in Japan for a tv special I believe.

T-Bone died in 2010 at 58, sadly. Lost IMO one of the greatest musicians of all time.
T- Bone's making my bones shake with those kickass grooves!

Anyone notice the visual exchange between Daryl and john at 3:40? It's like john was saying "hell yea, sing it brother" !!!!👍

These guys make smile when i watch this. Quite the blast, they appear to be having! Dance on your knees guys💙
4:42 I've heard tell that sometimes when Oates fixes his eyes just right, lightnin' bolts shoot out of 'em!

Probably good thing the EPA wasn't in Japan, Daryl's hair might have been declared a fire hazard from the copious gel/spray in it. ;)

I too thought Tony was awesome. A shame he didn't stay with the band.

I hate these re-releases. The original video/audio doesn't have all that forced/enhanced applause. Ots distracting and cringey.
