They stole these marbles! Why didn't someone tell her they were worth so much more! ??? Her husband would be heartbroken... I suspect if they were with him at the nursing home it would help his recovery. Sad.
Marbles go for big bucks. I started in this hobby less than a week ago and I've seen online auctions go for around $30+. Yeah, the auctioneers probably didn't know the value. The hobbyists did.
They took advantage of her. Sure, she didn't have to sell them but on the other hand, they knew what they were worth and why she needed to sell them... a sense of decency and conscience Should have prompted them to give her a fair price not take advantage when someone is down. We are meant to help not harm. She should have taken them to her husband so he could keep his favorites, I think he would get better with his prize collection in his room to inspire him. May his recovery be speedy.

$5,400 was chump change for all those marbles, there were no doubt many, many valuable ones, I"ve sold one marble for $200 before, just depending. The Akro agate popeyes, Sulfides, Peltiers, Christensen marbles, onionskins, Mica marbles, Aventurine and Oxblood marbles are all valuable and especially the rare multi color guinea marbles can go for hundreds of dollars.
Mentioned most were common marbles. So those were "throw-away's". Usually, dealers will you 30% if they are honest. I'm guessing the one's that were worth $ were $15,000.
There are many valuable antique/vintage marbles. German handmade glass marbles (circa mid-late 1800s) can be worth up to the tens of thousands of dollars for the rarest examples. Early machine made marbles from the early 1900s (from makers such as M.F. Christensen, Christensen Agate Company, Akro Agates, Peltier Glass Company, etc.) can also be extremely collectible with extremely rare examples selling for up to thousands of dollars for a single marble. Quality marbles are little works of art. Marbles that are highly desirable to collectors are ones which are extremely difficult to find. For instance, say maybe 1 out of every 1000 random mixed marbles is a marble made by Christensen Agate Company (who was only in business 8 years from 1925-1933) and then maybe only 1 out of every several thousand Christensen Agate Company marbles is a Guinea (a very rare and desirable style of CAC marble). That's why CAC Guinea marbles often start in the roughly $500 price range (and then go up from their for examples that are even more scarce).

Popeyes sells chicken one year I almost got choked on their mashed potatoes. Also the chicken sandwich made me swell up and feel even fatter
@@MelB868 fukin ignorant fool. MissAmazanda was referring to vintage/antique marbles.
This is sad. Why do good people have to have problems when bad people are having a good day.
I have antique marbles I would like to sell. Brown ones, blue, all shapes, sizes, colors. Probably like the first ever made!
Better do it while you have your mental faculties. Loved one's won't know.

An absolute shame. Hey folks, you can't take it with you, go on and turn those wheels as if you're riding Home.....
in 2016 most major marble folks would have cashed her out, like 8 to 10K cash all day long. to get $5500 is Theft.
