Are you going to visit the church at Warminghurst ? It's not very far away from Thakeham. It has been restored and the interior is quite amazing with its box pews etc and a certain William Penn came to worship here for a time before leaving Sussex to go off to America and found Pennsylvania.
Feeling very disappointed & slightly irritated by the negative comments in the video & in this thread about the new build houses in the village. The numbers quoted in the video are grossly exaggerated. The development is aesthetically very pleasing & has brought a pond attracting wildlife, a shop/cafe, a new cricket green, a football pitch, a village hall & a pre-school to the village. The houses which are very attractive & highly sought after hardly look like “prisons of the future” as stated in the comments! I agree that we have too many new houses ruining the countryside but some developers have made an effort so please give credit where it is due.
Thank you so much my Grandparents lived at Furze Common I went to Thakeham village school 41 -45 sang in that wonderful church. Grandad was a shoe maker & repairer in Storrington near to the cinema, happy days.
What a beautiful village; another one for me to explore at some time - Cynthia is an excellent guide. The houses would have had individual wells as Thakeham sits on a greensand ridge and the water table will not be too low underneath. I had a check; the school hasn’t closed; it’s just moved to a modern building- maybe the new houses have kept the school alive!
Top notch video! I spent a lot of time in the village growing up in the school holidays. My grandparents restored the house opposite The Rectory at the start of the video 👍. Feeling homesick watching this because I live in Australia these days
Lovely video of a lovely village...

What an impossibly beautiful country we live in!
Isn't it just! And we did it before modern technology got involved.

What a wonderfully quaint little village. Absolutely stunning! I think you nailed it w/ your metaphor - picturesque! Thank you Richard & Cynthia!
So pleased you enjoyed the video.
Another great walk. Magnificent buildings. Lovely sunshine and interesting conversation.
Thanks David.

I am looking forward to visiting yours to get a better perspective on the issue. Please don't take it personally, Jacqui.
@@RichardVobes Looking forward to you coming to us Richard! 😊
I lived here in the early 80s when I was 18 or so - brings back a lot of happy memories

That was in the choir. And in your wonderful Storrington story you pointed out my Grandfather's shop the low green painted building.

You must come back and visit sometime.
Richard Vobes 2018 was my last visit to village 👍. Also, saw you did a couple of videos on Portsmouth which is my proper home town ⭐️ 🌒. Good stuff!
Holy wells we looked for them all over Ireland. They all have a story. Go for it.
A very picturesque village indeed. Would love to see a video of yours in Amberley!
Loved it!
I’m really enjoying all these walks, all l need now is to find a way to get all that fresh air and sunshine through my I-pad!!?
Thanks David. I will upload the fresh air to the video! :)
Very nice England.
Another beautiful village where "Agatha" wouldn't feel out of place. It's quite frustrating that we can't look inside the houses as well 😊
Interesting video of Thakeham village, were I grew up as a kid. I lived with my parents in the house that Cynthia Julian now lives in.
Andy Singleton How amazing. Thanks for saying!!!
This looks so familar and it feels like i have been there, how strange.
Maybe you have.
Not in this life time, one day i will :)
My family, the Braidens, trace their ancestry back to this village. Many of my family were married in the church and are buried in the cemetery.
They are building affordable prisons for the future, not houses
That is exactly what they are.
"Not enough children to support it" 😂😂😂 NO. Oversubscribed and not enough space.
Thanks for the comment.
