Tl;dr: why I installed these, my experience and how I tackled issues I faced. Okay, so I probably have 0 experience in tech stuff and this is my first "upgradable" laptop. I am an occasional gamer (tomb raider, battlefield etc, nothing too intense) as I work full time and only get weekends to play. I still wanted to upgrade my RAM and storage to be able to run these games better and not burn it out. When I was doing my research, I found this laptop to be within my budget and thought I could handle the upgrade myself. Once I ordered my laptop, I researched on what RAM and SSD to buy and landed on this video. OP graciously has included the Amazon links in the description, so I ordered the exact same ones. Once I got my laptop and other things in place (I updated the firmware btw, so I get the full 7.8 gb ram instead of the 5. something out of the box), I waited a few days to upgrade, as I just wanted to see how it performs with regular specs and then in upgraded specs. Installed Rise of Tomb Raider and set everything to high, and things worked okay but there was a little lag during cutscenes. So today, I decided to watch this video once again and try it out. These are some of the issues I faced and how I fixed them, so you don't face these. OP covered things well in this video, and these issues are probably my mistakes. RAM: when I first inserted the RAM, it wasn't detected. Tried again and still didn't detect it. Lined up the notch and everything perfectly, but still, no luck. My mistake? I didn't insert it fully inside. In my laymen terms, the golden strip should completely dissapear in the slot. I was scared to push it further in fear of breaking something. But don't worry, it will be fine. Push it in as far as it goes (that's what she said 🤭) SSD: again, did not get detected. Nope, not even in the disk management menu. I was frustrated to say the least. RAM and SSD both not detected. I also noticed that I had to hold the SSD up in order to line the screw holes up with the slots in the bracket. This gave me a hint that I probably have not got it right. In the video, OP could screw it in perfectly. Anyway, I opened up the back, unscrewed and took the SSD out to try again. My Mistake? Again, didn't line things up properly. This time I lined up the notches pushed it completely in before letting it drop into the metal slot. When done perfectly, the screw holes lined up perfectly as well. I could tighten it and I could sense that I had done a good job. When I booted the PC, RAM was detected, but I no new volume was created. But I could see it on disk management. This is probably because I had already split my 512 gb into C and D drive. So I assigned the new SSD as E drive. Restarted the PC and everything is perfect. But wait, there was a third issue that I faced. The back cover didn't fit back perfectly in the first two tries. I could still see the gap on the front side (under the trackpad) where it didnt lay flush to the base. I looked in the comments and saw some suggestions from OP on this as well. So I lined up this side first when closing the lid and held closed with one hand, while I clicked down other sides with my other hand. And this time, it closed perfectly. All in all, a really, really good, well explained video. If you get stuck somewhere, just check the comments, as OP has addressed a lot of these things in the comments already. Follow what he does in the video perfectly and you will be successful. I have only listed some things I faced as a novice. I am sure people who have done it before will be able to do it seamlessly. Cheers. Sorry for the wall of text.
Wow, first of all thank for taking the time to explain all the issues you faced in detail (and their solutions)! I faced the RAM issue and the one with closing the back cover of the laptop too 😅 And my reason for buying this laptop was pretty similar where I was looking for a good gaming laptop with a decent budget - and it runs great! You can always leave a comment if you face any issues, I check the comments a few times a week (if not daily) :P Once again, thanks for leaving your experience and feedback on this, it made my day! 😀
Thank you so much for this one you freaking saved me with the ram tip!!!! I am also a first time upgrader and felt for sure like I was forcing on it too hard. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
Thank you so much.... it worked for me... turns it i just had to insert it correctly and if u don't get a satisfying click sound that means it is not inserted properly... at first i did get a click sound but it wasn't satisfying it was more like i forced something to be in a place where it doesn't belong... anyways thanks so much.. I love you... Have a great day
@@altairbarcial8417 So when I bought the laptop, it came with 3 extra screws in a small packet. I only realised they were meant for the SATA bay when I was upgrading it. If you didn't receive/don't have the screws, you can find the type of screws linked in the description :)
Great video! Straightforward and very informative, unlike those other rambling videos about this topic... I'm purchasing the 512gb varient of this laptop, that's why I'm here 😁
@@LANCEofIRAQ Sure, you just need to type the number in terms of what time it is. For example, if you want to go timestamp 2 mins and 50 seconds, all you need to type is 2:50. Hope this helped! :)
I have the ASUS TUF FX505DY. I just ordered a SSD upgrade but I need clarification. After I screw it in and install it in the SATA bay, how do I make my PC recognize it? I installed Samsung Magician but it didn't recognize it, but apparently I'm supposed to go into Disk Management once I boot up my PC. Sorry if this is confusing but any tips on this would be appreciated. My SSD is the Samsung 860 QVO 1TB. Thank you and I appreciate the video!
Not confusing at all! Sometimes you do need to go into Disk Management and allocate a drive letter to the installed storage drive. I've heard of Samsung Magician but I'm not familiar with it, so I can't help with that specific issue. Let me know if you need help with disk management, there should be an easy enough WikiHow to do it :)
Hey man, great video. It was probably the best and most helpful. I'm sorry to ask since you've already helped so much, but I was wondering if you could answer a question of mine. Would it be best to Ram stick already in use for two of the same kind to ensure better performance or would it be okay to simple just pop in a new stick of similar specifications?
No worries mate, I love answering comments! If I understand correctly, you're asking if you should look for the same ram in your system or find something similar, right? There's no need to find the exact ram in your system, it's also more unlikely to come by it. But ram of the same size and speed when you're choosing to upgrade and you should be fine. For this laptop you should get ram that is 8gb and runs at 2400Mhz :)
Omg I fucking love you bro, I had issues with the screws, i couldn't find them anywhere so I wanted to buy them but didn't know what type, but thanks to you now I know wich one I need to use
Hey, I've got a question - Did the laptop come with an empty bracket for the laptop, or did you have to separately buy a bracket and put it in the laptop before you were able to install the 2.5" SSD?
No need to buy a bracket for the laptop, it comes pre-installed inside. When I open the laptop at 1:35, that's exactly how it comes from the factory :)
Are you facing some heat issues and fan noise? Saw a Reddit and quora post about liquid metal paste and adding new heat pipe or heat sink. Temps were 10deg lower. Haven't seen any video about this.
The fan noise mode can be controlled with the software (Silent, Performance and Turbo) but I have noticed slightly increased heat. I am working on a video where I will replace the stock thermal paste with a high quality one, and that should give a performance boost. Best way to get notified when I release the video is with a subscription :)
The additional RAM improves multitasking capabilities, especially if you're streaming or if you keep a lot of browser tabs open in the background. The SSD helps with storage for games, and it greatly reduced the loading time in games. I will be making a video on the performance difference between single channel (8gb ram) and dual channel (16gb ram) soon!
Hey man, super helpful video! One question, do you not need to disconnect the battery first? I've heard that if you don't do so you can potentially damage the components when upgrading the RAM?
Hey, thanks! Yes, it's always better to disconnect the battery. However, if you are just upgrading the RAM and SSD you can get away without disconnecting it and just shutting down the laptop. If you want to know how to disconnect the battery, check the description for pictures of the cable you need to remove. Better safe than sorry! :)
Yeah, it does a bit. If I move it while it's on the screen gets a bit of a greenish tint for a second. But it's not too noticable for me unless I'm watching a movie or something with black bars on the edge of the screen.
If you changed the NVMe SSD, then migrating the OS will be hard because you won't be able to plug in two NVMe SSDs to migrate the data from one to the other. If that's not the case, there are some great videos on how to migrate your OS. Here's one I liked because he explains in detail why he's doing each step: ruclips.net/video/BZqkYnmDnas/видео.html
@@CytechGaming No.. actually I have the same laptop and Currently my laptop has nly hdd and I also want to install SSD in it so about window how can I move window from hdd to SSD .
@@sureshsuthar7361 Then your system will benefit a lot from an NVMe SSD. You can refer to the video I mentioned in my previous comment on how to migrate Windows :)
Try searching for "partitions" in Windows, and click the first option. It's possible that your SSD space isn't allocated automatically, and you'll just need to add it manually and assign a drive letter to it. Let me know if this helps :)
hey bro do you know how to fix geforce experience/shadow play recording in game sound high pitch and with an echo? every record i do with it the in game sound is high pitch
Hmm could it be the laptop mics are picking up the sound from the speakers rather than the desktop audio? Check if your mic is on while recording, and if not then check the Audio settings. Lmk if this helps :)
Im trying to repaste my laptop, but one of the screw in the thermal pipe is stucked, it doesn't move, the screw is not damaged, it just dont move, what should I do?
I'm working on a video on replacing the thermal paste of the laptop, and I had some trouble as well. I'll explain it in the video if you don't mind waiting a week? :)
Hey dude my model is FX505DV-PB74 the laptop which you now used in your video is same model ? If yes can i able to install 1tb ssd in that additional bracket crucial brand 2.5inch right ?
Hey! It's not the exact same model but it's from the same family. If you open up the back and see space for the SSD like it is in this video, then yes, any 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD will fit in there :)
Hi how should i know which one is compatible with my vram? Thinking to buy online but worried buy the wrong one, not a techie guy 😂 but i want to upgrade my vram for gaming, appreciate the reply 👍
That's what the comments section is for :) You might be confusing VRAM (video RAM) with RAM. Vram is the memory used by graphics cards (GPUs) and this is not upgradeable as it's soldered onto the motherboard close to the GPU. RAM on the other hard is definitely upgradeable in 90% of laptops. If you have this laptop with 8GB RAM, I'd recommend going for 8GB 2400Mhz. You can find an example of what to buy linked in the video description :)
Hey, I faced exactly the same issue when I tried closing it for the first time :P if you watch how I closed it (3:30), it takes some force to lock it in. If it still doesn't work, try opening it again and closing it again using a bit of force to snap it back shut.
Finally decent video, may I ask the ram of your laptop before upgrading was it 4gb ram or 8gb ram? Bcause im planning to upgrade my ram also mine is 4gb ram, isit okay if used 8gb ram for upgrade and make it 12gb ram in total? Or should i only upgrade 4gb ram only
Thanks! :) Before I upgraded my ram it was 8gb, and I added another 8gb to it. I would not recommend having different ram sizes (4+8gb) installed as it can cause compatibility issues. I would recommend going for 4+4gb or 8+8gb (if possible).
Hey.. I loved your detailed explanation on how to add the ssd and the ram.. I know this is going to sound dumb but could you tell me or give me a link to your philips screwdriver set... Hey, after having a look at the options I'd say this is your best bet for a 2tb HDD for notebooks (2.5 inch): amzn.to/2V7q4wm. However, it is quite expensive. I'd suggest going for a smaller, 1TB HDD at almost half the cost: amzn.to/2Z11oXx
I’m pretty sure my laptop already came with an SSD but it didn’t have a lot of storage. So I’m wondering how to transfer the data from the 500 GB SSD To a new SSD
@ジAkio Haha yep, you're right. The one shipped by the manufacturer is an M.2 NVMe SSD, and you can install another SATA SSD (like I did in this video 🙂).
Did you log in and then the screen went black or is it not showing anything when you boot? If it's not showing anything then it means the ram isn't inserted all the way in correctly, try reinstalling it and don't be afraid to use a bit of force. If it's logging in and then you see a black screen, wait a couple of minutes. This is apparently a known issue with the DT varient.
Yo is it possible to just put a crucial 8gb ram next to the included one? Is it different concerning performance than like two corsair or hyperx 8gb of the same brand? If that doesn’t matter, could you send me the link of that crucial ram stick? Awesome vid btw, thnx for helping me out
Hey Duco, as far as I can tell there is no difference in performance. I haven't faced any compatibility/performance issues till date. You can find a link to the stuff I used in the video description. Thanks, glad I could help! :)
blackjesus261 one question, if i check the crucial site and fill in my laptop in only gives me 2666 mhz and 3200 mhz, while this laptop can’t go over 2400 mhz. What is the speed of the one already in the laptop?
@@dtabor-d9r If you look at the specs of the RAM stick already in your machine is 2666MHz - but if you check the current speed it will only be running at 2400Mhz. So even if you install a higher speed RAM stick, it will be limited to 2400Mhz by the system. How to check your RAM speed in Task Manager: imgur.com/FzGRCH5
blackjesus261 but even though the machine will run at 2400 mhz, must the ram sticks be the same original speed? Like is there a difference between a 2400 mhz and 2666 mhz link in my machine or that they are both the same speed? Does that matter? That could explain why crucial only recommends 2666 on their site, bc the one in the machine is 2666 too?
So... Will My Warranty Get Void Once I Insert The Ram By Myself or Not? If Yes Then Shall I Take It to The Customer Care And Make Them Do it For Me or Will It Cost Me Something And I ll have to get it done by some Local Shop and Get My Warranty Void No Matter What...?
Asus does not void your warranty for upgrading the laptop ram and storage. In case the customer care asks you, just mention that you got it done at another service center, etc. so that they don't trouble you about it. You can take it to a shop/service center to have a professional upgrade it for you, and they will likely charge a small fee for it. But as you can see in the video, it is easy enough to do it yourself also :)
Hello , thanks for the video is very helpful , i have a question can i installe the ram of diffrent brand ? And also , if i can put a ram of 32 GB ? Please waiting for your answer
Glad it helped! Yes, you can install RAM from any brand and it will work perfectly as long as they are the same capacity and speed. For example if you want 32GB you can follow this configuration: 16GB at 2400Mhz x 2 Just some extra info, the 3550H CPU supports upto 32GB RAM with a max speed of 2400Mhz. Hope this answered your questions, happy upgrading! :)
Hello got a Variant with the Ryzen7 but 4gb ram so I was planning to use the 4gb ram from my Aspire 3 Laptop which cant be open because of power issues so I was planning of scrapping it. They have the same mhz and same ddr. The only thing thay im worried about is that, will Old ram work?
If they have the same Mhz and DDR you're already halfway to full compatibility! What is the capacity of the RAM from your Aspire 3, and do you know its CL rating? Eg. CL-18, CL-16, etc?
Very helpful video! *By the way, I had a doubt. Does having two ram stick of two different brands cause any compatibility issue? Because I've researched a lot on* *this and all forums and websites advise to buy a 2 x 8 gb ram kit rather than buying a single 8 gb ram stick as an upgrade to 16 gb (because* *then the ram stick are of two different brands and this may cause a lot of issues in the long run)*
It's definitely better to have the same two sticks of ram from the same company. However, if you don't have that choice (like when you're just adding another ram stick up a laptop), I've found that just matching the specs of the other ram stick works just fine. I've been using this laptop with the stock ram and the Crucial 8gb ram I installed for over a year without any issues now.
Glad to help :) Just make sure that the speed the ram sticks run at, capacity, and CAS latency is the same. For eg. in this video the stock ram is actually 2666mhz, but it can only run at a max of 2400Mhz. So, I bought ram that is 2400mhz, 8gb, and matches the CAS latency of the stock ram.
In case Windows doesn't detect and assign it a drive letter automatically, you will need to go into the Disk Management and allocate a letter to the drive, like D:\ for example.
Thanks for enlightening us . Quick question though, I have 256gb SSD + 1TB HHD and I planning to upgrade my HHD to 2GB SSD. Will that be possible brother?
Good video but you failed to show the SSD on the laptop. You have to initialise it, or it will not show up. Well in fact you have to do it to get the pc online. To do this you type in computer management on the search bar. That will show an app, press it, and then click storage/disk management on the left, if you cannot see it click the > to see a list. Then you click storage, the computer will try to find all your hard drives, partitions, etc. If everything is working, you should see your old hard drive and the new one. The new hard drive will say the disk is unallocated it etc, allocated drives are in blue, unallocated are in black.. Rick on the hard drive and chose, change drive letter and path. It should give you a drive letter ie D, E, etc if not click add and you will see "Add new drive a letter or path. Once you have done that click on and it should add the Drive letter and you will be able to see it in the disk management list and "This PC" I am sure you guys can find that, it is where your hard drives also listed other than in computer management.
You're right! I had already set up my SSD before this video, so I forgot to include that step. I try to stick around in the comments section to help anyone who asks 😋😅
I'm looking for RAM upgrade my self. The Amazon page you've linked says it's an 8 GB (Update), but there is another option which says 8 GB Single Rank. Do you know what that means? Also, why did you pick Crucial over other brands of RAM?
Generally speaking, Dual Rank memory is compatible with Single Rank (not vice-a-versa though), so the safe bet would be to get Dual Rank. As for why I chose Crucial over other brands; it was priced quite well, and I've used it in a previous upgrade without any issues. Hi Peter. I have faced a similar issue before and the fix was that the RAM wasn't inserted properly. Did you just get a black screen when you try to boot it? If yes then just make sure the RAM is fully inserted. Hope this helped!
hey great video man, how many mhz should i get for my duel channel memory, i was thinking of 3200mhz but i’m pretty sure it’s not compatible with this laptop
Thanks man! You're right, 3200Mhz is way higher than the max supported speed. The Ryzen 5 3550H has a maximum supported ram speed of 2400Mhz, so there's no point getting anything higher than that.
There is also an air intake vent in the centre of the laptop in the front (see 4:30). You could raise it or do a thermal paste replacement (working on the video, will be out soon) to improve airflow. I definitely wouldn't recommend making more holes in the bottom, I'm not even sure if it would void warranty or not 😋

You can use your old hard drive in the current laptop and add it to the SATA bay (see 2:54). I would recommend deleting all system files from the hard drive and only keep the personal files on it after you install it in your new laptop (games, pictures, movies, etc). Can you send me a link to the laptop you're viewing so I can give you a more specific recommendation?

My tuff fx 705dd has only 1 tb HDD and no SSD.
Hi Nishant, if you're laptop came installed with an HDD, that means it is using SATA port. If you don't have an SSD installed, the extra M.2 slot should be available for an SSD if you want to upgrade.
It's always better to disconnect the battery. However, if you are just upgrading the RAM and SSD you can get away without disconnecting it and just shutting down the laptop. If you want to know how to disconnect the battery, check the description for pictures of the cable you need to remove. Better safe than sorry! :)
Yep, the HDD can only fit in the SATA connection, so if that's already taken it doesn't make sense to replace it when you have an empty NVMe slot. You can check out an explanation of the layout at 2:49 on the video
I have an FX505DD, the default RAM installed is 8GB 3200 MHz and we know that this processor only supports 2400 MHz. I plan to buy one RAM for the second slot, is it safe if I buy 8GB ram with a speed of 2400 Mhz? or should I buy 3200 MHz just in case?
You should be fine as long as the ram is 2400Mhz and matches the CL rating of the installed 8gb stick. The factory installed stick on the 505DT is actually 2666Mhz, but I bought and use a 2400Mhz stick of ram and it's run perfectly fine till now.

@@harshitnasir329 No worries! I didn't remove anything from the laptop, I just added an SSD in the SATA bay. The SATA bay (where I installed the SSD) comes empty when you buy the laptop. The manufacturer included the empty slot to give you the option of increasing your storage by installing a 2.5 inch SSD/HDD in the empty slot. Since you've been out of the game for a while I thought the fact I'd include that the manufacturer does ship the laptop with an M.2 type SSD (see 2:52), which is a new, smaller and faster type of SSD. @@narongsakrattanasirimontre6323 Here are a few possible solutions: 1. While inserting it, make sure the gold lines on the RAM stick are fully inserted into the empty slot. No need to be gentle with it once it's in place. 2. If that doesn't work, you could check if the issue is with your RAM. You could try it on another machine, or check if you can get a return/replacement? 3. You can check if there is a problem with your RAM slot or RAM stick by running a few tests. This is a little more complicated, but you can check out the software called MemTest86 to detect any hardware faults with your machine/RAM. I would recommend this as the final step since it will likely be time-consuming. Let me know if this helps, if not we can try some more troubleshooting! :)

Does it void the guarantee cover? I was asked by the local Asus distributor that I should install these items from them, otherwise my warranty will be nullified.
Installing extra ram and storage does not void warranty. Most retailers tell you this to dissuade you from DIY-ing it. But still, if you ever do take your system in to the distributor, you don't need to tell them you upgraded it. If they ask, you can just say you had a professional do it :)
Usually the laptop comes with win10 preinstalled right? What if you got the fx505dt variant which has only a regular sata hdd, and then you plan to replace the hdd to an ssd, can we transfer the win10 into the new ssd?
Yep, win10 comes preinstalled in the machine. If you want to switch from the HDD to an SSD - I would recommend buying an NVMe M.2 SSD (see 2:52) so that you can still use the hdd for storage. After installing that, you can migrate the OS from the hdd to the ssd. Here's a video I liked because he explains why he's doing each step: ruclips.net/video/BZqkYnmDnas/видео.html Hope this helped!
Hi, dumb question here: Where did you get that 3 screws to secure the ssd. Does it comes with the ssd in the box or it was there with the tray in the laptop the whole time. Btw, very helpful tutorial!
There are no dumb questions here! :) The screws came in a small packet in the laptop box when I bought it, I didn't realise what they were for until I was installing the SSD. If you're installing an SSD you can do without them since there are no moving parts in there, it would mainly help with hard drive vibrations. I have added a link to the same type of screws in the video description if you're curious :)
You can find the link to replacement screws in the description. Tbh if you have an SSD you don't 'need' it since it's quite light and there are no moving parts. I would recommend getting it if you're installing a hard drive though.
Hi I’ve fixed my problem with the ssd , but can I just ask can I mix 16gb and 8gb crucial ram and if I switch to 16+16 gb will the performance increase ?
Glad to hear your issue is fixed! As for more RAM, a performance increase will depend on your use-case. More ram more multitasking; you can keep browser tabs open and play games, etc. at the same time with no worries. You will see the best performance increase in RAM-hungry tasks like video editing, etc. where your RAM is the bottleneck for your system.
Sadly, this is not possible. In almost all cases, core components such as the CPU or GPU are soldered directly onto the motherboard on laptops, making it very hard (if not impossible) to upgrade it. However, you can upgrade other components such as the RAM/SSD, or even cleaning out the dust buildup will improve performance.
i wanna buy a SATA ssd and have everything on there. Windows, games etc. but everything is already on my m.2 nvme ssd. how do i move everything from an nvme to a SATA drive?
Hey, I agree with the comment by kam n. If you already have an nvme ssd it doesn't make sense to install a SATA ssd and move the windows installation there. The NVME link is faster than SATA. If you would still like to move it, there are some software available that allow you to do this. Let me know if you would like to know more :)
How much is the maximum limit of fx505dt AMD Ryzen 7-3750H Ram, and can I put two different ram like 16gb + 8gb or do I have to put similar Ram like 16gb + 16gb?
Ryzen 7 3750H can support a maximum of 32GB at 2400Mhz. I've heard of people mixing and matching different RAM speeds and capacities for dual channel without any issues, although it's still never recommended. If you want a minimum of 20+ GB of RAM, I'd say buy a 16 GB stick and see if you have any issues with 16+8gb. If you face any stability issues you can go for 16+16gb. Just make sure they're both the same speed.
@CytechGaming So, can I use a clock speed of 2666Mhz or 3200Mhz Ram to upgrade, or should it be 2400Mhz only? And the extra hard disk drive slot, can I put mx500 1TB NAND SATA internal SSD?
The maximum speed supported is 2400Mhz, so even if you put a 3200Mhz stick it will only run at 2400Mhz. There's no issues with putting higher than the supported speed RAM except that it might be more expensive and you can't benefit from the extra speed. And yes, you can put the MX500 SATA SSD in that slot. Hope this helped! :)
The NVME SSD stick, Is that what houses the data on the laptop? If I'm to upgrade should I put what I want on an external drive. Install the new SSD, Then move it all back to that?
The NVMe SSD is where the OS is installed and where your files will be stored. When you say you're going to upgrade, I assume you mean the NVMe drive. If you put your files on an external drive and install a new NVMe drive, you will need to reinstall Windows and the drivers. You may want to look into migrating your OS from one drive to another! Here's a video on migrating your OS incase you're interested: ruclips.net/video/BZqkYnmDnas/видео.html
@@CytechGaming Hm. I'm not very smart with this sorta stuff. In easy terms. Can I just replace the NVME and be fine or will I need to back up data onto an external drive to put on the new NVME?
@@PLANDerLinde99 My bad, I know it can sound intimidating at times! So, Windows is installed on the NVMe SSD. If you replace that with another NVMe, you will need to reinstall Windows and other software for all the hardware to work correctly (this kind of software are called 'drivers'). Can I ask what the purpose of your upgrade is? If you're just looking for extra storage, you could buy a SATA SSD/HDD and install it like I did in this video. Didn't mean for this to be so long, but I don't think replacing the NVMe SSD is worth the effort you're going to have to put into the process. If you let me know why you want to upgrade the NVMe specifically, I'll be able to recommend what you should do better :)
@@CytechGaming Well I opened the back of my laptop to clean the fans the other day and just saw it was manufactured to accept upgrades. Thought why not see if I can upgrade it to the max. I did just take out am old SSD/HDD whatever it's called. The square block. From an old laptop and pop it in the gap of my new one. I now have an extra Terabyte of space
@@PLANDerLinde99 The square HDD/SSD you installed is most likely a SATA connected drive (see 2:49 for the difference between NVMe and SATA). If you have already installed it and it's showing up in your PC then you can ignore this next part. If it isn't showing up, go to Disk Management and set it up from there, a quick google should lead to some results. Congrats on the upgrade! :)
Hey, so when I got my laptop the screws were included in the box, but what I hear from a lot of comments is that it's not standard (I guess I got lucky :P) I've added a link in the video description for the type of screws you'll need for this. Worst case scenario, if you're installing an SSD then the screws aren't really necessary, it's more to secure a hard drive since it has moving parts and is more fragile than SSDs. Hope this helped! :)

Bro I've bought FX505DT-AL162T which has 1TB HDD and no SSD. And I'm planning to install a SSD in it too. So can you please tell me which one will be compatible with it? Pls reply
Your laptop should have an M.2 slot that you can upgrade with an NVMe SSD. So when you're looking for an SSD, search for an NVMe 2280 SSD. Let me know if you need any more help, I'll be here :)
Hey, good video. I have a question: if i want to upgrade my 8gb RAM fx505 DT to 16gb RAM, do i have to buy 2 new 8gb RAM card ( in order to have 2 of the same brand) or it´s okay just to add the extra card i´m going to buy? ( off course with the same frecuency as the original ram of the pc ) Sorry for my bad english
Your english was great Santiago, don't worry about it! :) You don't need to buy two 8gb ram cards, you can just buy one with the same size and frequency and install it. In case you're curious, although the RAM that comes installed is technically 2666MHz, it only runs at 2400Mhz as that is the max RAM speed supported by the Ryzen 3550H processor. So, even if you buy a 2666Mhz ram card, it will only run at 2400Mhz. Let me know if you could like more information on this, hope it helped!
blackjesus261 Awesome, thanks for the answer. So, do you recommend the 2666 MHz one or a 2400 MHz? ( just to added up to the one that comes with the pc )
The stock RAM stick is technically a 2666Mhz stick, but because the CPU only supports upto 2400Mhz, it runs in the system at 2400Mhz (check the video description for How to find RAM speed). Hence, I would recommend you to buy 2400Mhz RAM as it will run the same as anything higher. I wouldn't advice going below that speed to keep both RAM cards running at the same speed. Hope this helped! :)
RAM:
when I first inserted the RAM, it wasn't detected.
Push it in as far as it goes (that's what she said 🤭)
SSD: again, did not get detected.
I faced the RAM issue and the one with closing the back cover of the laptop too

For this laptop you should get ram that is 8gb and runs at 2400Mhz :)

how much better is the performance once adding the ram and ssd
The additional RAM improves multitasking capabilities, especially if you're streaming or if you keep a lot of browser tabs open in the background.
The SSD helps with storage for games, and it greatly reduced the loading time in games.

That's what the comments section is for :)
You might be confusing VRAM (video RAM) with RAM.

Before I upgraded my ram it was 8gb, and I added another 8gb to it. I would not recommend having different ram sizes (4+8gb) installed as it can cause compatibility issues. I would recommend going for 4+4gb or 8+8gb (if possible).

@@CytechGaming Oh ok, thanks a lot!
Glad to help :)
Just make sure that the speed the ram sticks run at, capacity, and CAS latency is the same. For eg. in this video the stock ram is actually 2666mhz, but it can only run at a max of 2400Mhz. So, I bought ram that is 2400mhz, 8gb, and matches the CAS latency of the stock ram.
@@CytechGaming Thank you so much! I appreciate it.
Do you need to do any additional steps after you boot up the laptop? I’m planning to do this in the next week or so
In case Windows doesn't detect and assign it a drive letter automatically, you will need to go into the Disk Management and allocate a letter to the drive, like D:\ for example.
Thanks for enlightening us . Quick question though, I have 256gb SSD + 1TB HHD and I planning to upgrade my HHD to 2GB SSD. Will that be possible brother?
Yep, as long as it's a 2.5 inch SATA drive it's possible!

Why fix what isn't broken? :P

That ventilation on this laptop looks so small, i think its better to add more hole in bottom of the back cover to make it have more better cooling.
There is also an air intake vent in the centre of the laptop in the front (see 4:30). You could raise it or do a thermal paste replacement (working on the video, will be out soon) to improve airflow.
I definitely wouldn't recommend making more holes in the bottom, I'm not even sure if it would void warranty or not

In Asus tuff fx 705dd there is m.2 slot mentioned on Flipkart so which SSD can be installed m.2 nvme or m.2 SATA?

My tuff fx 705dd has only 1 tb HDD and no SSD.
Hi Nishant, if you're laptop came installed with an HDD, that means it is using SATA port.
If you don't have an SSD installed, the extra M.2 slot should be available for an SSD if you want to upgrade.
Do wo need to disconnect battery first or we can do it without disconnecting battery ???
It's always better to disconnect the battery. However, if you are just upgrading the RAM and SSD you can get away without disconnecting it and just shutting down the laptop.
If you want to know how to disconnect the battery, check the description for pictures of the cable you need to remove. Better safe than sorry! :)

@@CytechGaming yes I have try removing it and put it back a few time now but still not work, :(
@@narongsakrattanasirimontre6323 Here are a few possible solutions:

Does it void the guarantee cover? I was asked by the local Asus distributor that I should install these items from them, otherwise my warranty will be nullified.
Installing extra ram and storage does not void warranty. Most retailers tell you this to dissuade you from DIY-ing it.

Here's a video I liked because he explains why he's doing each step: ruclips.net/video/BZqkYnmDnas/видео.html

Hi, dumb question here: Where did you get that 3 screws to secure the ssd. Does it comes with the ssd in the box or it was there with the tray in the laptop the whole time. Btw, very helpful tutorial!
There are no dumb questions here! :)
The screws came in a small packet in the laptop box when I bought it, I didn't realise what they were for until I was installing the SSD.
If you're installing an SSD you can do without them since there are no moving parts in there, it would mainly help with hard drive vibrations. I have added a link to the same type of screws in the video description if you're curious :)
What do I do if my laptop didn't come with extra screws for the SSD/HDD?
You can find the link to replacement screws in the description. Tbh if you have an SSD you don't 'need' it since it's quite light and there are no moving parts. I would recommend getting it if you're installing a hard drive though.

Your english was great Santiago, don't worry about it! :)
You don't need to buy two 8gb ram cards, you can just buy one with the same size and frequency and install it.
In case you're curious, although the RAM that comes installed is technically 2666MHz, it only runs at 2400Mhz as that is the max RAM speed supported by the Ryzen 3550H processor.

blackjesus261 Awesome, thanks for the answer.
So, do you recommend the 2666 MHz one or a 2400 MHz? ( just to added up to the one that comes with the pc )
@@santiagoboterogerena9623 I would recommend 2400Mhz :)
How much mhz does the original ram card have? Also if I match the mhz will it be better then getting a ram card that doesn't?
The stock RAM stick is technically a 2666Mhz stick, but because the CPU only supports upto 2400Mhz, it runs in the system at 2400Mhz (check the video description for How to find RAM speed).
