If I understand your question correctly, you are asking who the person in the mirror shots is, and whether it is the choreographer? If that is so, the person in the mirror is not the choreographer, who was Sir Frederick Ashton. Sir Frederick was the principal choreographer for the Royal Ballet from its inception until his death in 1988. The person in the mirror rehearsing Roberto and Svetlana is Grant Coyle (until 2013) the Principal Notator for the Royal Ballet, and worked closely with Ashton and MacMillan and so is a direct link with how the work was to be performed. Although Roberto and Svetlana dance the work as choreographed by Ashton, the characterisation is in part down to the dancers, and their interpretation of their relationship, but that of course must always follow Ashtons direction first. Grant Coyle, being a direct link between Ashton and Roberto and Sveltana is there to help make the performance as true to the Ashton's concept as it can be. I hope that answers what you asked - but if not, feel free to say so :))

I don't like pretend violence in any dance. I know it's integral to the story but I guess I'm nervous that someone will really get hurt or perhaps I just don't like any story with physical violence. Saw enough of it in my job. Want ballet to be beautiful .
I love Svetlana but Ashton's Marguerite is not for her. The only dancer who can give justice to this role is Tamara Rojo. But Svetlana's Marguerite in John Neumeier is achingly beautiful. ♥
This fellow Roberto Bolle ratcheted himself up several notches when he was allowed to dance with Svetlana Zakharova!va! He should thank his lucky stars for such a gift in his lifetime!
Pete Totaro Don't agree. He is not a neophyte and it must be nice to not be looking down on her partners when she's en pointe. They look amazing together.

They have to get paid very well because this music requires months and hours of practica befare dancers. Full time pianist usually get paid the same as the principal dancer. Pianist are more dificult to replace, it requires not only to play, but to know ballet, and follow the dancers
bolle needs to be more than a pretty face and body. he needs to emote. his face is emotionless most of the time. he isn't even looking at svetalana at 0:28 where he is supposedly blocking her. i suggest he watch Polunin.
I actually prefer Bolle over Polunin. Yes polunin is a better actor facial wise but his movements are too jerky and overly masculine. Bolle’s movements are much softer with gentler transitions, and although his facial expression isn’t the best his whole body emotes a romantic kind of emotion. Not best for everything but good for romantic roles.
@@luceafarul579 bolle's movements are too feminine. i much prefer polunin's masculinity and sexuality. after all it is a male role. and like i said before, bolle doesn't seem to relate to svetlana as a female. he often seems to be dancing only for himself and not in a partnership. i like male dancers who dance like men without overly flowing hands and arms.
lara hartley lol. Completely disagree. Being more feminine is what separates ballet from other forms of dance. It makes the dance and character more romantic. A masculine dancer is boring because it just becomes like any other pop/R&B/break male dancer. Nothing special about it. To say Bolle doesn’t relate to Svetlana is naively laughable. He is arguable her greatest partnership. Maybe you just didn’t understand the dance. After all, this particular story is a lot about being cold and using body language. Bolle is the best partner any ballerina could dream of having. He adapts to the extend of correcting any mistakes a ballerina makes, such as him with Misty Coperland in Romeo and Juliet. Several times he corrects Misty’s missteps and pivoting and does it ever so subtlely. That’s what a true partner does. Polunin is one that cannot relate body wise, because he just cares too much about showing off his prowess and his acting skills. He doesn’t bring anything special in a partnership.
Roberto Bolle is not inexpressive. He is a lyrical and ethereal dancer. Polunin is more passionate but too exaggerated and delirious in his facial expressions. Bolle is more expressive and elegant with the body and for me it is more true even with the face. Interpreting does not mean forcing facial expressions. Everyone has their own tastes and look at what they want
I think, the choreography, svetlana danced with polunin wasn't the same ? There were a few more dancers in some scenes. Well, here it is only a rehearsal, they don't give all. Polunin was sometimes horrible to watch in rehearsals, emotionalwise. But on stage he gave it all.
+Janet Shannon I agree with you... she's a great dancer but I don't find her especially right for this role. Zakharova doesn't have a deep connection or erotic passion with her partner the way Fonteyn did... she has a very cold, icy persona.
Very well put. Yet she is highly regarded. David Halleberg thinks the world of her and loved dancing with her. Maybe he was dazzled by the Russian "mystique."
Janet Shannon If you knew about Svetlana you would know that she is not "in love" with herself but that she completely devotes herself to the roles she plays. I've seen her perform a couple of times and they were very special experiences. Yes, her technical abilities are outstanding and otherworldly BUT she is a true artist and knows how to act and do a brilliant job at it.
+agnesbutterbun I think it has very much been kept under wraps for a long time, and although I understand your sentiment it would be a sad loss if the work of such a great choreographer were to be consigned to history just because it was previously danced by such icons - we would have lost the dying swan, and Le faun - and many other such works if we h eld to that concept.
However dancers should know what role is for them and this clearly is not for her. I find her movements too angular and she s a cold dancer even with her over emoting style. He on the hand has a wonderfully warm style and lovely rounded movements. He would have been a great partner for Fonteyn.

Most ballet dancers have become mere gymnasts. The artistry of ballet isn't there. They are also too thin to the point of emaciation. It is a competition on who can be the thinnest and most athletic. Fonteyn or Ulavona she is not. She is a dancing skeleton.
Given that Marguerite is supposed to be dying of the dreaded Consumption, the super skinny look could be deemed appropriate...however for me the Russian Ballet's obsession with extremely thin female dancers is not good or indeed attractive.
