Androgynous means having both male and female characteristics and appearance that it becomes hard to decipher what gender the person is. Urban Dictionary is a friend. 🙃
Wow there's a lot of ignorance in the comments. Guys, androgynous is not a sexuality or a gender, it's a way of presenting. It's not gender identity it's gender expression. And it's a real thing. This has nothing to do with tumblr
Not expression zzz,it's got to do with genetics where you have both characteristics of male and female,it's not something you can make but happened naturally
@@jekesan4221 You are born with clothes? You don't decide to cut your hair? You might have some androgynous physical features because of genetics, but you bring them out even more by being nonconforming in your gender expression

I looked like a combo between the beatles and oasis most of the times and the mullet was horrible 😅 so you gotta be aware about that if you do it. Otherwise, it s awesome.
It's hard for me because my parents won't let me buy from the boy's or men's section and I REALLY WANT to. I can't be myself as long as I live with them. When I move out, I WILL be able to be myself. One of my uncles really accepts that and I can be myself around him (and one of my cousins), but if I start being myself now, my whole family will start shying away from me. Also, because of how I look, many people think I'm lesbian (which is way I can't find a boyfriend). I embrace what I am, it's just my family that stops me.
Am I the only one that feels like they don't look "androgynous"? Androgynous people have a certain bone structure that gives the illusion of both a male and female face/body. They're just women who are not girly. I like the men's version of this better because they actually do look androgynous.
as much as I can see where you're coming from with this comment, being androgynous isnt about the way your face is structured. There are many androgynous people who have a more 'masculine' or a more 'feminine' face structure and they can't change that.
That doesn't make any sense lol ⬆ if you can tell their gender easily, or if their appearance strongly leans towards femininity or masculinity then they're not androgynous.
"You don't have to be a man to have short hair and wear men's clothing." Nothing is more true! I don't wear mens clothing, but I do have a buzz cut for convenience. I find it stupid when people say that girl's shouldn't have short hair. Also, just because clothes are made for men doesn't mean a woman can't wear them. Many women wear mens pants or shirts for comfort or just because they want to. Nothing wrong with that.
I went from long hair to wide length then finally I have short hair and I’m a woman. I’m in high school so of course me cutting my hair was a big deal, and honestly I hated it at first and felt awkward and embarrassed. I was scared how people would react and treat me. I already have quite a masculine face and such and I just knew this haircut would make me less appealing to men. I’m truly straight but I want someone who can love and respect me for me no matter how I look. I was definitely treated differently. I was told I was intimidating but now no one would talk to me. Also people would look at me weird or assume I was something just by looking at me. The whole reason I cut my hair was because i was tired of having to manage it and it always felt like it was in the way. My friend who is bi says I look like a guy all the time it doesn’t offend me most of the time. But a few days ago a man called me sir and then realized my name was a girls name and tried to apologize. It wasn’t his fault, but I felt terrible and I regretted everything. I just want to be comfortable in my own skin, I don’t want to be labeled for my hair or face or body. I’m so tired of it. We can’t let people tell us what genders can or cannot do, we are free to do whatever we want.
I used to feel really self conscious about my body, because I'm a cis girl with small hips and broad shoulders, and I would always search for ways to "correct" myself. But after I learned what androgynous meant and feeling at home with it, I've learned to accept and love my body more.
Androgynous people, not just models, are by far the most captivating in my opinion. I think there's something alluring in a person who's not compelled to fit what is the "norm". I feel like non conformity is the ultimate sophistication
this made me really happy. as a female who feels more comfortable in masculine clothing, people never understood me or liked me very much. i’m so happy to see people like these women who are seen in a positive light for their masculinity
I feel so inspired by you beautiful ladies. All my life I felt like the definition of androgynous but I never had a way to express myself. Slowly I'm finding more and more way to make myself feel more confident in the clothes I wear and the way I style my hair. To everyone else out there with a similar struggle: take your time and know there are tons of people out there going through the same thing. Just be yourself and you'll be happy. Always.
I'm so obsessed with androgynous models - they're so damn gorgeous! I didn't think I was in to girls but I could see myself with an androgynous-looking person, male or female.
If I'd been a girl, I might have had this problem: tall, low voice, and hair that won't grow very long. That possibility drives a lot of this home for me, and I hate seeing pretty girls made to feel bad about themselves, to begin with. Some of these gals ARE very pretty, for that matter, an I'd never look at them otherwise. No assuming they're men, no assuming they're lesbians, none of it. Short hair on the right girl actually kind of . . . works, to be honest.
Liopleurodonninja I don't like carrying masculinity OR femininity to extremes, quite frankly: it's tacky, and reeks of overcompensation. (This is what you learn, growing up in a feminist household.) And to be perfectly honest, I find that the sort of woman who looks genuinely good in short hair, is a good prospect for me. I'm not giving up what I need, because of a bunch of stereotypes.

i honestly love these videos.. they make me, a teenager that is struggling to "find them self" but feels that they can kinda start labeling them self as an androgynous person, slightly more confident.. but at the same time i see all these androgynous models and just regular people in general as these attractive... thin...... yea mostly thin... people and it makes me very unsure of myself. it sucks..
Some days I wander on the internet and find a specific topic and cling to it for the whole day or longer. lately it's been things about genders-genderfluid,transgender, and now androgenous. I always accept and get inspired by the people explaining or showing what it means to be who they are and want to be. So after that,I realized that there are times I want to look like a male. I'm pretty feminine and cute looking to others though, like a childish look so I never thought it would work and to this day I still don't know if I can with makeup and see if I can pull it off as what I want it to be. I know it's not for everyone and maybe it's a phase to me. I don't know. But just by watching these people,I hope I can gain confidence and find people who can understand and help me see a new perspective by experiencing it :)
This is me in a nutshell, lately though I've been embracing the more femme fatale side of androginy(sp) and it's so much fun. It took me ages to feel comfortable with myself, I always thought that I had to fit in a certain box just to please my family. Once I found myself though, no more pleasing others, it's time to take care of my needs. It's amazing to feel comfortable in any type of clothing and feel confident in the way you look no matter if you are more feminine or masculine than usual. Embrace and move yourselves for who you are, and above all, do not let people pressure you into any boxes, be yourself and be happy.
This video just helped me so much -I needed to see this! Now I know the word I was looking for! I am androgynous female, but people would make fun of me, or expect me to be a lesbian when I'm not, etc., because of my behavior (pretty tomboyish). So it's awesome to see other girls like this, and to hear what they say about it :) (thanks buzzfeed, you're amazing with these vids ;) )
Androgynous fashion has always seemed more male than female to me. It's probs just me failing to understand stuff but whenever I've dressed androgynously I've gone for more of a typical male look than female
I find this very helpful for me because when I had long hair my family and friends would admire how long it was and super healthy. That I was like a typical hispanic girl with long hair. But ever since my sister got cancer and she went bald, seeing how much she wanted her hair back made me want to chop mines off and give it to her. Thankfully she survived and I got to chop off my hair to donate it. I then had my hair in a pixie cut and many people, especially my family, disapproved of my hair being so short. I then started to not wear make up as much seeing that they teased me saying I looked like a boy. I said if they wanted to label me like that then a boy they will have. I started to buy more masculine clothes and then they finally stopped teasing me seeing how much I really didn't care. Now my hair is growing longer and when it reaches to the point where I can donate it again, I will cut it off.
wow this boosts my confidence a lot because im the type of person that has this appearance. usually woman are expected to wear feminine clothing to look good, but im just not confident in that one look. thank you buzzfeed!!!
might just be me, but I find these women not too androgynous. they are still VERY feminine just with short hair...a good example of andgrogynous is Tilda Swinton imo
this inspires me SO MUCH! I was worrying about my future and how idk if I'm a demiboy (he/they. it's like being a boy but with agender too) or trans. but this showed me I can wear what I want and I feel more comfortable now identifying as a demiboy. THANK YOU SO MUCH literally I felt like I was gonna cry before but now I'm ok
This video honestly makes me really happy seeing a video about androgyny. Being an androgynous person I don't really get to see or hear form people like myself in the media or real life. Nice to feel represented.
They look sooo cool and tough and STILL A BEAUTIFUL FEMALE. and that kind of beauty kills me! I hope you girls stay as girls and keep that beauty face and that tough badass looks. Just be both, be androgynous forever
What I got bullied for a lot when I was in elementary school was that I was chubby and had a very boyish face. When I was eight I started wearing makeup because I felt that I had to for people to understand that I’m not a boy. I’m a girl. What I do now is wear boy’s clothes, but do really glamorous makeup. It confuses so many people. Even my friends don’t recognize me sometimes, because I recently got a pixie cut. The thing is, I don’t care. I like the way I am. I love my bright blue hair. I love the way I dress. I love my face, but I also love makeup. I hate when people ask what I am. You can assume I’m a boy, I’ll correct you. You can assume I’m a girl, I’ll congratulate you for being right. Even though I look androgynous, I am a girl. Hence the name death herself.

Such a beautiful group of women 😍
The blonde is so cute 😍 my look is more like the Asian girl now though
was hoping for rain dove.. that's my boo lolol
Woah! They're freakin gorgeous, all of them. Especially Tyler!
This video just helped me so much -I needed to see this! Now I know the word I was looking for! I am androgynous female, but people would make fun of me, or expect me to be a lesbian when I'm not, etc., because of my behavior (pretty tomboyish). So it's awesome to see other girls like this, and to hear what they say about it :) (thanks buzzfeed, you're amazing with these vids ;) )
it's easy to look good with short hair if you're already hot
Androgynous fashion has always seemed more male than female to me. It's probs just me failing to understand stuff but whenever I've dressed androgynously I've gone for more of a typical male look than female
" I don't like being labeled" continues to label self
But at least it's not labeling incorrectly which is what most people do
don't be trash
Now my hair is growing longer and when it reaches to the point where I can donate it again, I will cut it off.
the girl at 1:17 looks like Johnny depp when he was younger 😍😍😍(that's a compliment)
I identity as a table but I don't wanna be labeled
FX's Amber is androgynous too right?? Well I'm not sure but she is my woman crush.

wow this boosts my confidence a lot because im the type of person that has this appearance. usually woman are expected to wear feminine clothing to look good, but im just not confident in that one look. thank you buzzfeed!!!
why cant they just be.. models? people are so mad over labels but half of them FORCE the labels on others, idk.
might just be me, but I find these women not too androgynous. they are still VERY feminine just with short hair...a good example of andgrogynous is Tilda Swinton imo
90% of this comment section is so gross bye
this inspires me SO MUCH!
These models are so beautiful! I love the message they are showing that you can blur the lines between male ad female and still be beautiful

All of these girls are so beautiful I don't get why people would ever say bad things about them
I connect with this so much. I like looking masculine, I also want to get a pixie cut because I personally love how girls look like with short hair
so which one of them is gay?
+Gwendeline Zakary right?
Buzzfeedyellow = Buzzfeedtumblr
No offense but the all look like natural women to me just a bit tomboyish. It's not like their super ambiguous.

But that moment when they confuse being androgynous with being lesbian
